Breaking: Galaxy S21+ gets exposed in early hands-on video, come check it out!

The Galaxy S21 series has so far been the topic of countless rumors and leaked 3D renders but although these resources have been essential to unravelling the mystery surrounding Samsung’s upcoming flagship, they’re nothing like the latest hands-on video.

YouTube channel going by the name of Random Stuff 2 has posted the following hands-on video starring the Galaxy S21+, model number SM-G996U. The video focuses mostly on benchmark results but it also talks a bit about how the device handles photography and offers a short sneak preview of the back panel.

The latter looks exactly like you would expect given the recent leaked renders. The camera bump is flush with the side and top edges of the device and it accommodates three cameras. The back panel is matte black and presumably made of plastic. The Infinity-O display is flat. It doesn’t have the right and left edges wrapping around the phone, and the physical buttons are located on the right edge.

Samsung might have more work left to do on the Camera

The source claims that photography with the Galaxy S21+ is not fantastic on account of color saturation. Blues and greens reportedly stand out too much, however, no sample shots were provided and we can’t be sure of these results.

More importantly, the Galaxy S21+ unit seen in the video might not be running the latest firmware and the final product could tell a completely different story in regards to mobile photography.

As for benchmark results, this is the Galaxy S21+ variant powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset and it yielded 1115 and 3326 points in Geekbench single-core and multi-core tests, respectively, which is more than what the base Galaxy S21 model scored last week.

Samsung is once again on the receiving end of a lawsuit filed by Ericsson

Samsung found itself embroiled in another legal dispute earlier today when Ericsson filed a lawsuit in the USA against the Korean tech giant on grounds of contract violations. Specifically, Ericsson argues that Samsung failed to meet contractual commitments on FRAND (Fair, Reasonable and Non-Discriminatory) conditions.

According to reports citing Ericsson, the company claims to have complied with its own commitments but Samsung hasn’t. The case addresses breaches of FRAND obligations by Samsung and seeks to obtain a ruling by the court that Ericsson has complied with its own commitments.

Samsung might be forced to fork over ~$200 million

Ericsson risks losing anywhere between $119.1 and $177.2 million every quarter beginning with Q1 2021 due to the current geopolitical conditions, delayed intellectual property royalty payments and legal costs. The company will seek to recover these expenses when the legal dispute concludes and contracts are agreed upon.

The lawsuit was reportedly filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas but Samsung has yet to comment on the matter. Meanwhile, Ericsson’s shares fell by roughly 6%.

This isn’t the first time for Samsung and Ericsson to settle their differences in court. Ericsson also filed a lawsuit against Samsung all the way back in 2012 for similar FRAND-related reasons, and two years later Samsung was forced to pay the Swedish tech company $650 million.

Grab your pitchforks, Galaxy S21 S Pen support confirmed!

More details on Samsung’s alleged launch plans for the Galaxy S21 series in Europe have emerged. The lineup will be unveiled on January 14 and, in countries like Germany, the series will be available exclusively with 5G connectivity.

The base Galaxy S21 model along with the Galaxy S21+ will reportedly hit the shelves in Germany in two storage options: 128GB and 256GB. The Galaxy S21 Ultra will be available with 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB of storage.

Samsung won’t neglect the key European markets in regards to color options, so the Galaxy S21 should be available in four Phantom shades: white, gray, violet/purple, and pink. The Galaxy S21+ model will reportedly ship in silver, black, and violet/purple, while the Galaxy S21 Ultra will only be available in black or silver.

Samsung to offer a Galaxy S21 Ultra cover with S Pen holster

Many of you should be aware of these rumors by now but the Galaxy S21 – or at least the Galaxy S21 Ultra – might become the first-ever in the series to support the S Pen. This accessory has so far been reserved for the Galaxy Note flagship series and select tablet models, but it might finally cross over to the Galaxy S family as an optional accessory.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra won’t have a built-in S Pen slot akin to the Galaxy Note. Instead, sources claim that Samsung has developed a special case for the device – one that incorporates an S Pen. In fact, Samsung will reportedly offer at least two Galaxy S21 Ultra covers that boast the S Pen. They should share the same color options as the flagship itself.

Could this signal the end of the Galaxy Note series? Perhaps, but this transition might not happen all of a sudden. With the Galaxy S series said to be getting an S Pen, Samsung might decide to release a single Galaxy Note model in the second half of 2021 instead of two, but only time will tell if it will abandon the series altogether.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra S Pen and associated accessories will be available for purchase separately and they might not be compatible with any other Galaxy S21 variants aside from the Ultra. The Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus might lack the required digitizer for S Pen inputs. Pricing details for the S Pen accessory are unknown as of this writing.

Top 5 Samsung gadgets under $50 to gift this holiday season

It’s that time of the year again – time to find the most inexpensive expensive-looking gadget that will impress a wide variety of personality types without financially crippling you. Ergo, we bring to you our picks for the best Samsung gifts under $50 that will help you achieve that coveted balance between pleasing both your loved ones and your wallet. Regardless of whether any one of you even own a Samsung device, mind you.

So, let’s begin because some of our recommendations will only be good for as long as their deep discounts are available.

AKG Y100 Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds – $99.95 > $41.98

We’re starting with the most valuable Samsung gadget on this list, at least from the standpoint of its typical retail pricing. So, like, the only perspective that matters here. Enter the AKG Y100, a pair of wireless earbuds from Samsung’s Austrian subsidiary that will appeal to runners and anyone who can appreciate high-quality audio that doesn’t make them feel like they’re carrying another head on their neck. At under $42, 58% off its regular price, this gadget is currently the cheapest it has ever been since first hitting the market in early 2019.

Samsung EVO Select 256GB MicroSDXC card + adapter – $49.99 > $24.99

256GB of ultra-fast flash memory designed for 4K UHD recording is pretty much as good as it gets when it comes to microSD cards this holiday season. And that’s before accounting for an amazing 50% discount on this particular model of Samsung’s EVO Select series. This is a professional-level MicroSDXC memory card that’s being offered at a price point cheaper than your last trip to the movies. Or better said: movie, singular. Whereas this thing can hold dozens of them.

Samsung Qi Wireless Charger and UV Sanitizer – $48.61

Samsung’s combo of a Qi wireless charger and an ultraviolet sterilizer might just be the gift of the year. Under $50, over $50, for Christmas, Hanuka, Islamic New Year – you name it. It’s amazingly useful, unassumingly discreet in its appearance, extremely easy to use, and surprisingly affordable at that. Just don’t mention that last part and yours might just be the most thoughtful gift of the day. Well, so long as you’re actually able to buy one in time for the gifting you have planned. As you probably won’t be surprised to learn, these sanitizers have been in a pretty short and inconsistent supply ever since Samsung first released them back in spring.

Samsung BTS Wireless Charger Pad Slim – $48.99

Most of today’s most popular non-budget smartphones support at least one wireless charging standard. And most of your loved ones probably support BTS at this point, given the way things have been going for them lately. And so, this vivid wireless charging pad should serve as the perfect holiday gift for quite a diverse cast. And you don’t even need a Qi-compatible device to enjoy the in-your-face aesthetic that amazingly doesn’t stand in the way of the gadget’s minimalist design.

Samsung 860 EVO 250GB SATA III SSD – $49.99

Samsung SSD SATA 3 hard drive under $50

A long-time favorite across numerous segments and countless users, the Samsung 860 EVO SATA III SSD has a proven track record and a lengthy warranty to go along with it. The latter is a notable selling point seeing how it directly addresses the number one cause for skepticism directed at your average SSD – durability concerns. Making this a nice, functional gift that is highly likely to outlive most other transistor-based things suitable for gifting.

Samsung preparing Galaxy M tablets to build on the series’ massive success?

Last month, we had exclusively reported that Samsung will expand its Galaxy M line-up with the launch of the Galaxy M62. While we expected it to be a smartphone, a new report claims that it is actually a tablet, the first Galaxy M series tablet. If this turns out to be true, we would see one more tablet lineup from the company alongside Galaxy Tab A, Galaxy Tab Active, and Galaxy Tab S series.

It is being reported that the Galaxy M62, which bears model number SM-M625F, is a compact tablet and not a smartphone. The device is reportedly under development, so it could be launched early next year. There is no new information about the specifications of the Galaxy M62.

If this information is true, Samsung could be trying to capitalize on the Galaxy M series’s massive success. The Galaxy M30s and the Galaxy M31 were massive hits, especially in countries like India. The Galaxy M series’ success can be attributed to affordable pricing, large-sized screens, and massive batteries.

The report also claims that Samsung is planning to bring back the Galaxy E series, and the Galaxy F62 that was recently leaked could actually be launched as the Galaxy E62. Do you think Samsung is needlessly turning its smartphone and tablet lineups into a confusing mess? Whatever the case is, we would come to know more about the upcoming mid-range devices in the future, after the launch of the Galaxy S21 series.

Samsung labels Galaxy S20 a success, but with a big ‘but’

Well, that took a while, but Samsung at last labeled the Galaxy S20 series a success. And yes, there is a giant asterisk overshadowing that claim. Because this assessment only concerns the flagship line’s performance as Samsung’s premium 5G offering of the year.

Yup, this is about 5G. Even though the next – or current, at this point – generation of mobile networks hasn’t exactly been booming this year. Not compared to initial expectations, at least.

5G understandably wasn’t near the top of most people’s 2020 priorities – and neither was the Galaxy S20

That, on its own, is perfectly understandable. After all, in the face of the largest healthcare crisis of the past hundred or so years, most countries around the world figured all those trillions planned for 2020 network deployments could wait for a bit longer.

Meanwhile, Samsung is pretty desperate for any positive takeaway from this year that’s unrelated to its remarkable contributions to pandemic relief efforts around the globe. Probably because celebrating those is both premature and hardly something that will ease investors’ eternally shaky nerves.

That’s why today, Samsung took yet another opportunity to point its figurative finger to a two-month-old Strategy Analytics report stating the Galaxy S20 range was the best-selling lineup of 5G-ready smartphones in the first half of this cursed year.

Never mind the fact that its overall sales have already been labeled a failure in their most crucial period. That would be the first few weeks following their release. As for how well the Galaxy S20 range maintained its momentum, look no further than the fact that Samsung launched yet another high-end smartphone at the very end of this year for an answer to that question. Not to mention the fact that its successors are now being rushed to the market, as well.

Samsung’s GameDriver app promises ‘improved graphics performance’ on Galaxy devices

Samsung has finally released the GameDriver app for the Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy Note 20. The GameDriver app is based on Google’s GPU Inspector Tool that was unveiled earlier this year. The new app promises to bring “the best gaming experience with improved graphics performance on Galaxy devices.

The GameDriver app is compatible with the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy S20 FE, Galaxy Note 20, and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. If you were wondering if it works on both Exynos and Snapdragon variants of the smartphones, Samsung has released two versions of the app, one for the Snapdragon (Adreno GPU) variants and the other for Exynos (Mali GPU) variants.

Samsung GameDriver currently supports only three games, but wider support is coming in the future

The GameDriver app allows Samsung to issue hardware driver updates and bug fixes to its smartphones (directly via Play Store) without the need to release a full-fledged firmware update in case something goes wrong. The company can also release performance and stability improvements for supported games.

In the app’s description, Samsung mentions that it currently supports three games: Black Desert, Call of Duty: Mobile, and Fortnite. The company also stated that it would support more devices and games in the future, but it did not provide any particular time frame. A few users who installed or updated the app on the Galaxy S20 or Galaxy Note 20 devices have complained about reduced performance and reboots.

Many game studios, game developers, and developers of other mobile gaming related tools have partnered with Samsung to bring support for the GameDriver app. You can find the whole list of partners that the South Korean firm is working with on this webpage. It includes Crytek, Deep Silver, Game Evil, Microsoft, Square Enix, Super Evil Megacorp, Turn 10, and Unity.

Here’s one more color variant of the upcoming Galaxy Buds Pro

Samsung is expected to launch new truly wireless earbuds alongside the Galaxy S21 series. The company already sells the Galaxy Buds, Galaxy Buds+, and the Galaxy Buds Live. However, the Galaxy Buds Pro are expected to be the highest-priced truly wireless earphones from Samsung.

Previously, two color variants of the Galaxy Buds Pro—Phantom Silver and Phantom Violet—were leaked. Now, another color variant of the upcoming wireless earbuds has leaked. Samsung will also sell a black color variant of the Galaxy Buds Pro, but we don’t know if it will be just called Black or Phantom Black. The company could introduce even more color variants in the future, just like it did with the Galaxy Buds+ and the Galaxy Buds Live.

The Galaxy Buds Pro feature an in-ear canal design, multiple mics on each side, active noise cancellation, and a Galaxy Buds Live-like case. We also expect the upcoming earbuds to feature Bluetooth 5.0 (or newer) with AAC codecs, a dual-driver setup, improved ambient sound feature, touch controls, a 472mAh battery in the case, USB Type-C port, fast charging, and wireless charging.

Galaxy M12 appears with Exynos 850 processor, Android 11

Samsung’s upcoming affordable smartphone, the Galaxy M12, had recently received Bluetooth and Wi-Fi certifications. The design, dimensions, and screen size of the smartphone were leaked a few weeks ago. Now, the phone’s processor, RAM, and operating system version have been revealed.

The Galaxy M12 has appeared in Geekbench’s database, revealing that it uses the Exynos 850 processor and 3GB RAM. The phone appears to be running Android 11, so we expect it to feature One UI 3.0 out of the box. The Exynos 850 (S5E3830) is an 8nm SoC for entry-level smartphones. The processor features eight Cortex-A55 CPU cores clocked at 2GHz, the Mali-G52 GPU, and support for LPDDR4X RAM and eMMC 5.1 storage.

Samsung has equipped the Galaxy M12 with a quad-camera setup, but the resolution of those camera sensors hasn’t been revealed yet. The phone is equipped with Bluetooth 5.0 and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi b/g/n for wireless connectivity. It is rumored that the Galaxy M12 will come powered by a 7,000mAh battery.

Leaked 3D CAD renders of the upcoming smartphone revealed that the Galaxy M12 sports a 6.55-inch Infinity-V display. However, it remains to be seen if it uses a Super AMOLED panel or an LCD screen. The phone measures 163.9 x 75.9 x 8.9mm. It has a side-mounted fingerprint reader, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB Type-C port.
