BREAKING: Leaked Galaxy S21 FE marketing material leaves little to the imagination

Some new Galaxy S21 FE marketing material has surfaced online, pretty much confirming key design aspects of the phone, such as its camera layout, which is nearly identical to that of the Galaxy S21. It also tells us that the smartphone will ship with a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED panel clocked at 120Hz and a hole-punch camera that houses the phone’s 32MP selfie camera. An optical fingerprint sensor will handle biometric authentication.

CoinBRS also happens to confirm some key Galaxy S21 specifications. The rear camera array is said to include a 64MP primary camera sensor, an ultra-wide-angle lens and a depth sensor, contradicting earlier leaks that suggested the phone would get a telephoto lens.

That being said, the above Galaxy S21 FE camera specs don’t seem to add up at all. Other than the 32MP selfie camera, everything else seems to disagree with earlier leaks. We learned that the Galaxy S21 FE would feature a 12MP primary sensor, 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens and an 8MP telephoto lens.

Then again, Samsung could have changed the Galaxy S21 specs at the last minute to drive down costs. The vanilla Galaxy S21 is already quite affordable and it runs the risk of undercutting the Galaxy S21 FE. Samsung, in all likelihood, would have been forced to cut corners, resulting in an inferior camera layout.

Under the hood, the Galaxy S21 FE get an Exynos 2100/Snapdragon 888 SoC coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. A 4,500mAh battery will power the Galaxy S21 FE. Much like its predecessor, the Galaxy S21 FE will not ship with a 3.5mm audio jack. This time around, the micro SD card slot has been axed, too.

Strictly speaking, we learned most of what the leaked Galaxy S21 FE marketing material showcases quite some time ago. It is, after all, an incremental upgrade over the Galaxy S20 FE, so there’s only so much Samsung can improve. Nonetheless, we have to wait until next year to find out if this information is true, once the phone is launched at CES 2022.

Say bye-bye to Samsung DeX on Windows 7 and macOS

Samsung DeX is one of the best pieces of productivity software that the company has ever made. It transforms your smartphone or tablet software into a desktop-like UI when connected to a bigger display (monitor or TV). It even works when you connect it to a computer running macOS or Windows, provided that it has the Samsung DeX software installed.

If you regularly use DeX on your computer, there might be some bad news for you. Samsung has announced that it will stop supporting DeX on computers running macOS and Windows 7 (or older OS versions) starting next year. Users running Samsung DeX on macOS have already started seeing pop-ups regarding the company’s plans.

The South Korean firm has also updated its DeX-related webpage to mention, “The DeX for PC service for Mac/Windows 7 OS will be terminated as of January 2022. For any further questions or assistance, please contact us through Samsung Members.

Users who already have DeX installed on their computer can continue to use it, but the company will no longer update it or support it. Windows 7 users can upgrade their computer to Windows 10 or the recently-released Windows 11 operating system.

macOS users would no longer be able to download DeX software on their computers. If they have a monitor, they can use a DeX dock or a USB-C to HDMI cable to connect their Galaxy smartphone or tablet and use DeX. The company had released a beta version of DeX for Linux but terminated it without ever releasing a stable version.

Samsung aims to sell at least 10 million Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 4 units

Samsung broke foldable sales records with the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3, with sales numbers crossing over a million units in South Korea alone. It was reported that the company aims to sell 7 million of its third-generation foldable devices. Now, it appears that the company is setting even higher targets for its foldable phones next year.

According to a new report from TheElec, Samsung aims to produce around 10 million units of Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 in Q3 and Q4 of 2022. It means that the company is aiming to sell at least 10 million units of its next-generation foldable devices. That’s certainly possible if Samsung continues to improve its foldable devices with more durable designs and better specifications.

The report also claims that Samsung aims to produce close to 38 million Galaxy S22 series smartphones in 2022. The company could also be seeking to sell more than 9 million units of the Galaxy S21 FE, which is expected to go official in January 2022. When it comes to the Galaxy A series (Galaxy A13, Galaxy 33 5G, and Galaxy A53 5G), Samsung targets to manufacture 78 million units.

Samsung is the biggest proponent of foldable smartphones right now. The company has already released three generations of foldable phones globally. With the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the company dropped the prices while delivering more robust designs and improved specs compared to their predecessors. No wonder people have been going crazy over those smartphones.

New leak hints at exactly what to expect from Exynos 2200’s performance

There has been a lot of hype around Samsung’s upcoming flagship chipset—Exynos 2200—because it will come with an AMD GPU instead of an ARM GPU. Some reports claimed that the new chip would offer a huge jump in graphics performance and even beat Apple’s A-series chips. However, none of those reports mentioned exactly what kind of performance improvement we can expect from the Exynos 2200.

A new report from tipster @FrontTron claims that the Exynos 2200 offers 31% to 34% faster peak performance compared to the Exynos 2100. Moreover, the upcoming flagship chip will reportedly offer 17% to 20% improved sustained performance than its predecessor. Compared to the Snapdragon 888, the fastest chipset in the Android ecosystem right now, the Exynos 2200 is said to have “a big difference,” particularly in the 3DMark (Wild Life) benchmark.

These performance numbers are reportedly from pre-release hardware and software, which means we can expect even better performance in the future. The report also claims that the Exynos 2200 will use ARM v9 CPU architecture, which means that it will use ARM’s new CPU cores: Cortex-X2, Cortex-A710, and Cortex-A510. We can also expect the chipset to come with an integrated 5G modem and the latest Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity standards.

The Exynos 2200 is reported to be a 4nm chipset, and it will debut with the Galaxy S22 series. However, it is being reported that only a few markets (Europe and South Korea) will get the Exynos versions of the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra, while other markets (including India and the US) will get the Snapdragon 898 variants of the phones.
