First Galaxy Fold benchmark reveals Qualcomm chip in global variant

With less than a month to go until its release, the first Galaxy Fold benchmark has now surfaced on Geekbench. It’s for the global or “international” variant of the device with model number SM-F900F. The variants which have the letter “F” at the end are classified as such.

Just a cursory glance at the results reveal that the global variant of the Galaxy Fold will ship with a Qualcomm processor. That was to be expected since Samsung has previously said that its foldable smartphone will have a 7nm 64-bit processor. That shuts the door on its latest Exynos 9820 chip because it’s 8nm.

This is a notable development because Samsung always ships Exynos processors with the global variant of its smartphones. The Qualcomm processors are limited to a couple of markets like China and the United States. It’s making an exception for the foldable smartphone, though.

The Galaxy Fold has posted a single-core and multi-core core of 3418 and 9703. We’ve mentioned before that benchmark results are not indicative of the true performance of a handset. That holds true for this device as well. It’s also unclear whether this particular device is a development prototype or a consumer version and if it’s running stable firmware. There’s 12GB of RAM onboard, as expected, Samsung confirmed that during the Galaxy Fold’s unveiling.

The Qualcomm chip in question which fits the 7nm criteria is the company’s latest Snapdragon 855. It has an embedded X24 LTE modem and as we exclusively reported, the Galaxy Fold will be available in both LTE and 5G variants.

We can expect to see more benchmark sightings going forward as the release date comes near. Samsung announced on February 20 that the Galaxy Fold will be released on April 26. The handset will initially go on sale in South Korea and the United States. Samsung has said that it will offer the Galaxy Fold in major markets across the globe.

Clever Galaxy S10 billboard promotes PowerShare by charging devices

Samsung has now got down to the business of selling the Galaxy S10. Initial reports suggest the company is seeing strong demand for its new flagship series. It has ramped up its promotional and marketing blitz across the globe to get the word out about its latest and greatest Galaxy S device.

The company has put up a clever billboard in Sydney, Australia, which promotes the Wireless PowerShare feature of the new series. It’s a uniquely interactive installation which teaches people about one of the Galaxy S10’s marquee features.

We’ve already explained in detail what is Wireless PowerShare and how you can use it on the Galaxy S10. The feature allows you to use your Galaxy S10 to charge another Qi-enabled device. So you could reverse wireless charge your Galaxy Buds or Galaxy Watch but you could also do it for a Galaxy Note 9 or even an iPhone.

This Galaxy S10 billboard was spotted by the folks at Notebookcheck on George Street in Sydney’s business district. It invites people to charge their phone by placing it on the Galaxy S10 image in the billboard. There obviously won’t be a real Galaxy S10 inside, just a regular Qi wireless charger, but that would help you get the idea about Wireless PowerShare.

Do keep in mind that while regular Qi wireless chargers are rated to 9-10W, Wireless PowerShare is slower at 4.5W. So nobody will be just standing there holding up there phone against the billboard to charge it fully. It’s unique and does a good job of informing people about Wireless PowerShare on the Galaxy S10, so props to the folks in marketing.

Galaxy Store is the new one-stop platform for all your digital Galaxy needs. From apps and themes, to stickers and fonts, the new market offers a diverse range of content for your Galaxy smartphone. You also get edge panels, camera filters, and many other Galaxy-exclusive content on Galaxy Store.

Galaxy Store also makes recommendations based on seasons, holidays and events, as well as recommendations based around your previous interests. So the next time you access the store, you will see a personalized page with content you might want to check out. Users who are into gaming will be shown the latest in mobile games, while health-conscious users will find recommendations for lifestyle and fitness apps. And to create an engaging way to browse the Galaxy Store, Samsung will be introducing new content to users with videos and other supporting links.

Through the ‘My Galaxy’ tab in the Store, you can customize your device with themes and fonts of your choice. There’s also a separate ‘Watch’ tab for Samsung smartwatch users to download watch faces and apps for their wearable. Gamers can discover new games through the store’s ‘Games’ tab. The new Galaxy Store also offers exclusive in-app purchases and other discounts for popular games. Samsung promises to continue adding new content to the Galaxy Store.

[Poll] Samsung Fonts: Are you more of a Choco Cooky or Cool Jazz person?

Samsung does give you a handful of free font options on its devices. It has done that for years. You can also purchase premium fonts if you’re into that sort of thing. So we created this poll to find out which of those free options are most used by you guys. This poll is actually a result of the discussion our team had about the use of these fonts.

Most of us are of the view that anything other than the default font is just plain bad. Comical names like Choco Cooky or Cool Jazz don’t help. Yet we’re surprised by the sheer number of people using the fonts based on the countless screenshots that we received as tips from all across the globe. I personally feel they make the whole user interface look too cartoony. Suffice to say, I’ve never ventured beyond the default font on all of my Samsung phones.

Granted, people are really into customizing the look and feel of their phones. That’s why wallpapers and themes exist. Custom fonts add yet another layer of personalization on the device. So there’s nothing wrong with being a Choco Cooky or Cool Jazz person. You do you, mate.
