July 2021 security update hits the Galaxy M11

This is just the second week of July, and Samsung has already updated many smartphones and tablets with the July 2021 security patch. The rollout started with the Galaxy S10 and then expanded to the Galaxy Fold, Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy Note 20, and the Galaxy A52. Even the Galaxy A10s received the new security patch earlier today, and now it is time for the Galaxy M11.

Samsung has started rolling out a new software update to the Galaxy M11, and it includes the July 2021 security patch. The new update, which bears firmware version M115FXXU2BUF3, is rolling out in Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam right now. And we expect Samsung to release this software in other markets over the next few days.

The South Korean firm hasn’t detailed which security vulnerabilities it has fixed with the July 2021 security patch. We expect the information to be made public within the next couple of weeks. The July 2021 security patch seemingly fixes the Android Auto bug that some users have been facing on their Galaxy devices.

If you are a Galaxy M11 user in any of the countries mentioned above, you can check for the update by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. You can also download the latest firmware from our firmware database and flash it manually.

Android 11 update now rolling out to the Galaxy A10s

Samsung has started rolling out a new software update to the Galaxy A10s that includes Android 11 and the latest security patch. The Galaxy A10s was launched in mid-2019 with Android 9-based One UI onboard, and it is now getting its last major Android OS update. In the future, it will only receive security updates.

The new software update for the Galaxy A10s is rolling out in Malaysia and Vietnam right now, but we expect it to be released in other markets soon. The latest update bears firmware version A107FXXU8CUG1 and includes the July 2021 security patch.

The new software brings a refreshed UI design, improved stock apps such as Samsung Internet and Samsung Keyboard, one-time permissions, auto permissions reset, redesigned Device Care menu, the ability to remove GPS location data from images, easier access to smart home controls, more lockscreen options, conversations section in the notifications area, and a dedicated media player widget below quick setting toggles.

The new update could also improve the performance and stability of the Galaxy A10s. The July 2021 security patch fixes the Android Auto bug that some Galaxy users were facing.

If you are a Galaxy A10s user in Malaysia or Vietnam, you can check for the latest software update manually by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. You can also download the latest firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually.

Galaxy S21 FE shines in all new 360-degree render

Another day, another leak ruining Samsung’s future product launches. Following 360-degree treatment of upcoming Galaxy devices like the Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy Watch 4, and Galaxy Buds 2, it’s now the Galaxy S21 FE’s turn. The 360-degree render of the Galaxy S21 FE has been shared on Twitter by Evleaks and shows us a similar sight as previous leaks.

The Galaxy S21 FE will look pretty similar to the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21+, no surprises on that front. The white version is the one on display in the GIF below, and it looks as classy as you would expect. There will be a couple of other cool color options as well, including green, black, and violet. A lower number than what Samsung offered with the Galaxy S20 FE last year, but we guess we will be able to forgive the company for it so long as it manages to launch all four colors globally instead of limiting them by market.

The Galaxy S21 FE is currently expected to launch sometime in the fourth quarter of the year, so we’re looking at an unveil anytime between October and December. Given the pace at which the phone is picking up important certifications, we’re assuming the Galaxy S21 FE will go official sooner rather than later. Before the S21 FE, we have the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 to look forward to, though those handsets will naturally be in a completely different league when it comes to pricing, even with a sizable discount over their predecessors.

According to rumors, the Galaxy S21 FE will feature the Snapdragon 888 in some markets and the Exynos 2100 in others. It will beat the Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra in charging speeds – certifications have revealed the S21 FE supports 45W charging (though we expect it will come bundled with a 15W brick, or none at all). A 4,500mAh battery will keep the lights on, same as the Galaxy S20 FE, while the fate of features like microSD expansion is still up in the air.

Your Samsung Cloud storage won’t be destroyed for another three months

It has been five years since Samsung Cloud was launched. Like many companies at that time, Samsung thought that launching its own cloud storage service would be a good idea.

The service hung was around for a while before Samsung decided that it needed to be nuked. Thus began the gradual decline of Samsung Cloud. The company made it clear that it would delete all Samsung Cloud storage data on August 31, 2021. Now it’s giving you three more months to migrate your stuff.

Samsung Cloud storage end of life extended by three months

Samsung Cloud users have been notified via the app that they now have a three month extension. It was previously going to end the paid storage plan, Gallery Sync and Drive on August 21, 2021. That’s no longer the case.

The company says that it has given this three month extension so that users have enough time to migrate or download the data in their Samsung Cloud storage. It’s possible that the pace of data migration isn’t that great. Samsung wouldn’t want people to be caught off guard once the service eventually ends. So it’s giving them more time until November 30, 2021.

Microsoft’s OneDrive is the alternative that Samsung is suggesting. It has made it very easy to migrate data from Samsung Cloud to OneDrive. Do keep in mind that you must migrate Samsung Cloud data to OneDrive before October 1, 2021. It will not be possible to migrate the data after this date.

You’ll only be able to download the data in your Samsung Cloud storage after October 1. All paid storage plans will also be automatically cancelled on this date and customers’ last payments will be refunded. All features will cease to exist on November 30. That is also when all of your Samsung Cloud data will be deleted.

So whether you’d like to move to a different cloud storage service or simply backup the data locally, be sure to make a decision before November 30. It’s unlikely that there will be any more extensions after this.

These new Galaxy smartphones will get quarterly software updates

Samsung launches many smartphones and tablets every quarter, and it can be quite hard to keep track of their software update schedule. The company had announced that it would offer three major Android OS updates and up to four years of security updates to its high-end smartphones and some mid-range devices, while the remaining devices will get two major Android updates and three years of software updates.

Some mid-range phones get monthly security updates, and others don’t, which could confuse consumers while deciding which smartphones to buy. So, the company has now revealed the software update schedule for some of its recently launched mid-range smartphones. The Galaxy A22, Galaxy A22 5G, Galaxy M32, and Galaxy F22 will get quarterly security updates and two major Android OS updates. Samsung has listed these devices on its website that is dedicated to software updates.

Samsung has improved its software update game a lot over the past year. It has been consistently releasing new security patches faster than Google. However, it is no longer the only Android OEM to offer up to four years of security updates. OnePlus announced earlier this week that it will match Samsung by releasing three major Android OS updates and four years of security updates to its flagship devices.

The Galaxy S21 series could soon get new colors!

Although the Galaxy S21 series is quite a few months old, Samsung plans on keeping it relevant until its successor is launched later next year by launching new colorways. Recently, we got to see the Galaxy S21 Ultra in a Navy Blue variant. Unfortunately, that variant is exclusive to Best Buy in the US and is unlikely to be available anywhere else, but other countries might soon get some new color options as well.

It seems that there will be multiple Galaxy S21 color variants introduced sometime after the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 launch, which is expected to happen on August 11. It isn’t clear as to just which Galaxy S21 series device will get the fresh coat of paint, although it is entirely possible that all three S21 siblings will get the treatment. The leak also says that the memory/storage on some of the new variants will be different from their peers.

Samsung could potentially give the vanilla Galaxy S21 or the Galaxy S21+ a memory/storage upgrade. There is a possibility that we could see either device with 12GB of RAM instead of 8GB. Users would undoubtedly welcome more memory/storage on the base Galaxy S21 devices. One can only hope that these new variants isn’t locked to a particular retailer or network provider.

Which new colors would you like to see for the Galaxy S21 series phones?

A new Samsung Galaxy A52 model is coming to town!

It seems making ‘s’ variants of devices launched just a few months ago is still a thing over at Samsung. The Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A52 5G launched earlier this year in March and are currently among the best mid-range phones money can buy, and Samsung already seems to be making a slightly upgraded version of the A52 5G, possibly called the Galaxy A52s 5G.

2019’s Galaxy A50 was succeeded by a Galaxy A50s a few months down the line, and Samsung has also released these ‘s’ variants of some of its more affordable A and M series phones over the last two years. And while there was no Galaxy A51s, the Galaxy A52s might exist. A device with model number SM-A528B has received certification in India and is also being developed for the Korean market, though there’s no info on what changes or upgrades this new model will bring to the table.

If the Galaxy A50s is anything to go by, we can expect better cameras – perhaps a 3x zoom camera will replace the depth sensor found on the Galaxy A52 and A52 5G, making the camera setup similar to the Galaxy A72’s? If that turns out to be the case, the Galaxy A72 might not have any more reason to exist, as it is already quite similar to the 4G variant of the Galaxy A52 and inferior in some ways to the A52 5G. It’s also possible the Galaxy A52s will be the only model sold in Korea, where neither the LTE nor the 5G variant of the Galaxy A52 are available right now.

There’s no way to be sure at this time, but we should see more information on this new Galaxy A52 model making its way online in the coming weeks. We’ll be sure to let you know when that happens, so stay tuned!

Will the Galaxy S21 FE have a microSD slot?

Samsung’s been making excellent phones across all price segments in these last couple of years, but the company has also slowly but steadily removed many features that made Galaxy devices stand out from the competition. This year, the Galaxy S21 series caught flak for missing out on features that were standard on Galaxy flagships until 2020, like a microSD slot or the ability to make payments on non-NFC payment terminals using Samsung Pay (MST support, in short).

With the Galaxy S21 FE on the horizon, many have begun to wonder: Will it follow in its flagship cousins’ footsteps and lack those features as well? Specifically, will it have a microSD slot, or will Samsung tell prospective Galaxy S21 FE buyers to depend on the cloud once they have run out of the built-in storage space?

Right now, it’s hard to tell whether the Galaxy S21 FE will support storage expansion

It’s something we here at SamMobile have been wondering as well, and, if we’re being honest, there’s no way to be sure at the moment. The rumors and leaks haven’t given us any concrete information on the matter, and the many regulatory certifications the Galaxy S21 FE has picked up recently never reveal such details.

Having microSD expansion on a smartphone that’s supposed to be made for Samsung fans would be a no-brainer, but we’re not sure the Fan Edition label means as much to Samsung as we thought it did when the Galaxy S20 FE launched last year. That’s because the Galaxy Tab S7 FE barely offers any of the specs that make the Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7+ so good, suggesting Samsung is playing fast and loose with the definition of a Fan Edition device.

For now, all we can do is wait for new rumors to shed light on this particular subject. As for the official answer to the question, that is still a few months away as Samsung has reportedly delayed the Galaxy S21 FE’s launch to the fourth quarter of this year because of the ongoing chip shortage.

Cheaper Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 will be available for even less

There’s a lot of excitement in the air for Samsung’s new foldable smartphones. It will unveil both the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3 at an Unpacked event next month. Earlier reports have revealed that the new handsets are going to be cheaper.

This is great news for those who have been holding out on foldable smartphones due to the price. There’s even going to be an opportunity to get the cheaper new foldable smartphones for even less.

Trade-in options to make the new foldables cheaper

We have exclusively revealed already that a big price cut is on the cards for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3. They will be up to 20 percent cheaper than their predecessors. Subsequent reports have also confirmed the price cut.

The latest whispers out of South Korea further reiterate that the new foldables will cost less than the previous generation. Customers will be able to get them for even less provided that they have an existing Samsung foldable smartphone.

The company will run a promotion that invites people to trade in their existing Galaxy Z Fold or Galaxy Z Flip phone. The trade in value will likely be significant, thereby reducing the overall cost for customers.

Much like the Thom Browne edition last year, there’s also going to be a special edition this year that will go on sale separately. The release timeframe for the new foldables is reportedly the same as what has already been rumored. August 27 is when the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 are expected to go on sale.

Samsung hasn’t confirmed it as yet but there’s reason to believe that its next Unpacked event will take place on August 11. There will be new smartwatches and earbuds unveiled at this event as well alongside the new phones.

Samsung’s all-powerful new Galaxy tablets could arrive early next year

Samsung’s in the habit of launching a new flagship tablet every year. Last year, we got the Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7+, and for 2021’s Galaxy Tab S8 series, Samsung is expected to pull out all the stops by launching three new models at once, with one of them featuring a massive 14.6-inch OLED screen and other impressive specs.

This all-powerful tablet would be dubbed the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, similar to the top-end models of Samsung’s flagship phones launched in 2020 and 2021, and would be accompanied by the slightly more humble Galaxy Tab S8 and Galaxy Tab S8+. All impressive stuff, if you look at the leaked spec sheets, but it seems we might have to wait a bit longer for these new tablets to arrive.

According to a new rumor, Samsung will launch the Galaxy Tab S8 lineup sometime early next year instead of 2021. Not that the possible release time frame of these tablets was ever mentioned in rumors before, but a launch next year does seem likely given the chip shortage that is plaguing the industry. That chip shortage has also reportedly caused a delay in the Galaxy S21 FE’s launch and lead to Samsung skipping the Note lineup for 2021, so it’s not entirely surprising that the company’s tablet lineup is being pushed to the sidelines.

The Ultra model could feature a massive 14.6-inch AMOLED screen

While the Galaxy Tab S8 lineup might not arrive until next year, we already know quite a bit about their possible specs and pricing. The Galaxy Tab S8 and S8+ will be similar to the Tab S7 and S7+ in specs while featuring the “fastest next-gen processor”, and the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra will have features like a 14.6-inch AMOLED screen and a 12,000 mAh battery. All three models will support the S Pen and a new premium keyboard accessory, and 5G connectivity will be an option in addition to the usual Wi-Fi and LTE-only flavors.

Pricing, meanwhile, could start at $740, $1,120 and $1,320 respectively (based on conversion from Korean Won). All these details apparently came from one of Samsung’s official surveys so they are pretty believable, though a lot could change by the time the new tablets are ready to hit retail shelves. We’ll let you know as more information on the Galaxy Tab S8 lineup comes up, so stay tuned.

Galaxy S21 FE inches closer to the launch, key specs get confirmed

The Galaxy S21 FE was supposed to launch next month alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3. However, its launch was delayed to Q4 2021 due to the shortage of chips and batteries. Now, the smartphone has slowly but surely moved closer to its launch as it has passed through China’s mandatory TENAA certification process.

Samsung’s upcoming affordable high-end smartphone appears to feature a 6.4-inch display with Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The Galaxy S21 FE (SM-G9900) runs Android 11 out of the box and comes powered by a 4,370mAh battery (could be marketed as a 4,500mAh battery). The certification document also reveals that the Galaxy S21 FE features 5G connectivity and a dual-SIM card slot. The smartphone measures 155.7×74.5×7.9mm, which means that it is more compact than the Galaxy S20 FE.

Going by previous leaks, the Galaxy S21 FE features an in-display fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. It is expected to come equipped with the Exynos 2100 processor in some Asian and African markets, while other regions will get the Snapdragon 888 processor. It could have 6GB/8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB internal storage. Other features could include GPS, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB Type-C port, wireless charging, and 45W fast wired charging.
