Galaxy S20, S20+ prices accidentally revealed via Amazon.ae

With just a few days left before Galaxy Unpacked goes live, the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20+ have popped up online at Amazon.ae along with their prices. The listing not only suggests that the series will cost less than what we were told to expect but also confirms that the Galaxy S20 and S20+ 4G variants will launch with 8GB of RAM instead of 12GB in some markets.

Amazon.ae lists the Cosmic Gray and Cloud Pink Galaxy S20 4G along with a discounted price of AED 3,112 ($847), down from AED 3,199 ($870). Of course, the smartphones are not yet in stock and some offers have already been removed while we were preparing this story, but the price cuts will likely be valid at the time of release. Discounts aside, this early listing all but officially confirms that the Galaxy S20 will have a base price of around $850, at least as far as the 4G version with 8GB of RAM is concerned.

Meanwhile, both the 4G and 5G versions of the Galaxy S20+ have been listed by Amazon.ae. Once again, the former comes with 8GB of RAM while the latter packs 12GB. The 4G model is accompanied by a discounted price tag of AED 3,484 ($948) down from AED 3,599 ($979), while the Galaxy S20+ 5G seemingly costs AED 3,696 ($1,006), or AED 3,799 ($1,034) without a discount.

The Galaxy S20 Ultra is sadly missing from the picture but we suspect that Samsung will add it soon enough. Whatever the case may be, these Amazon prices are considerably lower than the rumored US launch prices, but it’s worth remembering that there usually is a price discrepancy between the same products sold in different regions. Still, there is hope that the Galaxy S20 will have a ~$850 base price – or equivalent – in other regions as well.

Galaxy S20 series to ship with the best fast chargers in the box

Another bit of information surrounding the Galaxy S20 series has dropped in our lap, so strap yourselves in and get ready for the next flagship series to boast 25W and 45W fast chargers right out of the box.

Indeed, according to a recent tweet from @rquandt, both the 4G and 5G Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20+ will ship with 25W fast chargers in the retail package. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S20 Ultra will ship with a 45W fast charger to match the battery’s prowess.

This is an unusual but welcomed turn of events for a Samsung flagship. As a reminder, the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10+ have both shipped with a 25W charger in the box. It maxed out the Galaxy Note 10’s capabilities, but it wasn’t capable of pushing the Galaxy Note 10+ battery to its 45W limits. Worst of all, the 45W fast charger for the Galaxy Note 10+ was not available for purchase separately in every market.

But as far as the Galaxy S20 series goes, Samsung seemingly wants to offer the best wired charging solution right out of the box. This means no additional expenses for customers who want the fastest battery charging possible, particularly if they intend on buying the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Then again, Samsung’s top of the line might cost a pretty penny so perhaps it all evens out.

Exclusive: New Galaxy smartwatch has stainless steel version, three colors

It was less than a month ago that we first heard that Samsung is working on a new Galaxy smartwatch. The absence of any leaks means there’s little chance that this new smartwatch will launch in the near future. It will probably make an official appearance alongside the Galaxy Note 20 in the second half of 2020, but we will certainly get a lot of details about the watch ahead of its unveiling, as is customary for all the mobile devices that Samsung launches each year.

Stainless steel variant, same colors as Galaxy Watch Active 2

Late last week, we revealed that the next Galaxy smartwatch will come with 8GB of storage. Today, we can confirm a couple of more details. This new watch will have a variant made of stainless steel, just like the Galaxy Watch Active 2. And, like the Watch Active 2, the new Galaxy watch is going to come in three colors: black, silver, and gold. It seems the stainless steel variant is only in development in silver and gold, though this could change later down the line.

Unfortunately, if you were hoping for confirmation on whether or not Samsung’s next smartwatch will have a physical rotating bezel, we’re afraid we don’t have anything to tell you. That mystery probably won’t be solved until renders or real-life pictures of the watch leak online. And since that usually happens a lot closer to the product’s official launch, we may be waiting a while to find out if Samsung is developing a Galaxy Watch 2 or a Galaxy Watch Active 3.

Details like the screen sizes and battery capacities will likely be revealed sooner, though. We know the watch is being made in two sizes (each with Wi-Fi and LTE variants), and the battery capacity for the smaller one is rumored to be 330 mAh, which is a lot higher than the 247mAh battery on the 40mm Galaxy Watch Active 2. In fact, bigger batteries seem to be the theme this year for Samsung, with the upcoming Galaxy S20 series set to feature notably larger batteries than the Galaxy S10 lineup.

Leaked Galaxy Buds+ retail box confirms 2X battery life gains, dual drivers

‘The Galaxy Buds+ will have better battery life than the ongoing model.’ You’ve probably heard this a couple of times before, but now this detail has been all but officially confirmed by Samsung.

Live photos detailing the Galaxy Buds+ retail package have been shared by @rquandt on Twitter ahead of the product’s unveiling scheduled for next week. Among some of the features described on the back of the box lies information about battery life and, you’ve guessed it, the Galaxy Buds+ are officially rated for up to 11 hours of music playback on a single charge.

That’s almost double the battery life of the ongoing Galaxy Buds

As we’ve reported before, Samsung seemingly achieved this by fitting a larger battery in both the Buds+ and the charging case. Each bud should now have an 85mAh battery, up from the 58mAh units that were used before.

This year, Samsung SDI wants to enter the coin cell battery market and supply key wearable manufacturers, including OEMs from China. Up until now, Samsung’s wireless headphones have been powered by batteries from third-party suppliers, but there is a chance that the Galaxy Buds+ have switched gears and feature in-house coin cells developed by Samsung SDI. This has yet to be confirmed, but we’ll find out more once the first disassembly videos make their way onto YouTube.

Other than that, the Galaxy Buds+ retail package confirms the Sky Blue color option we’ve been telling you about since last year, as well as the earbuds’ dual-driver audio setup. The box also details its contents including 3 sets of wingtips, 3 sets of earbud tips, a USB-C cable, a quick start guide, and the charging case.

Are you planning on getting the Galaxy Buds+ once they go live? Is the improved battery life a strong selling point for you, and what are your thoughts on the Sky Blue flavor? Join us in the comment section.

Galaxy S20 Ultra leaked promo poster puts camera hump in the spotlight

If you’re having a difficult time thinking about what hasn’t already been leaked about the Galaxy S20 series, know that you are not alone. There’s almost no stone left unturned when it comes to Samsung’s upcoming flagship, and one of the last pieces of the puzzle fell into place earlier today.

The official promo poster for the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G has been leaked on Twitter ahead of the flagship’s launch next week. It doesn’t reveal any new details of the device, which means that it indirectly confirms the validity of most other recent leaks, especially the renders and leaked photos depicting the flagship’s design.

Get ready for 5G and a huge camera assembly

By now, given all of the leaked material, it shouldn’t be a surprise that the Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G is going to have an unusually-large main camera assembly. This is the most striking design element of the new flagship, and it’s going to be one of its main selling points. Samsung shines a bright light – literally – on the camera bump in the promotional poster, wanting everyone’s eyes to be drawn to it.

The Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G’s camera assembly is expected to feature a 108-megapixel main shooter, a 48MP telephoto lens with 10X optical and 100X digital ‘Space Zoom,’ a 12MP ultra-wide shooter, and a ToF sensor.

Unless you haven’t been completely disconnected from the internet for the past couple of months or so, you probably already know that Samsung’s next flagship will be unveiled at Unpacked in San Francisco on February 11. We’ll be on the show floor bringing you all the news, so stay tuned.

Galaxy S10 February security update rolling out in more countries

The February security update has been released for all of Samsung’s flagship phones launched in the last year. The Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ were the first to get the latest security patch, followed by the Galaxy S10 and, as recently as today, the Galaxy Fold. The Galaxy S10 series received the update in the US first, and the Exynos-powered model followed soon after.

Now, the February update for the Exynos model has spread to a lot more countries. As we write this, the update is rolling out in nearly 15 countries, including the Netherlands, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, and Malaysia. The update sports firmware version G975xXXU4BTA8 and, in addition to the February 2020 security patch, brings “improvements to the overall stability of functions.”

It’s unclear what those improvements are about, but the update hopefully fixes the camera issue that seems to have affected some Galaxy S10 smartphones after the Android 10 update. Some users have complained that their phone can completely freeze when they open the Camera app, and while it doesn’t seem to be too widespread, the issue is bound to be frustrating for those who are affected by it.

If you own a Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, or Galaxy S10+, you can check for the latest update by opening the phone’s Settings app, selecting Software update, then tapping Download and install. We also have firmware for the Galaxy S10 trio in our firmware archive. You can download and install firmware for your country on your phone using a Windows PC.

Did you get the February security update on your Galaxy S10e, S10, or S10+? If yes, was your device affected by the camera bug and has it been fixed after the update? Let us know down in the comments!

Galaxy M20 Android 10 update rolling out in Europe

While it was great to see Samsung start beta testing Android 10 for its flagship smartphones earlier than we expected, what was more impressive is how the company rolled out the update to two of its budget phones in record time. The Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M30 were updated to Android 10 and One UI 2.0 in India before the Galaxy Note 10, and now, Samsung has brought the latest version of the OS to the Galaxy M20 in Europe.

Unfortunately, the update brings only the bare minimum of what Samsung has to offer with One UI 2.0, which is why it calls the update for the M20 and M30 a “One UI Core 2 upgrade“. Features like the built-in screen recorder haven’t made the cut, but the update does include all the One UI 2.0 user interface improvements and also the features that are part and parcel of Android 10, such as Google’s navigation gestures, more granular location and privacy controls, improved Digital Wellbeing with Focus mode, and more.

Android 10 is rolling out to Galaxy M20 owners in Germany, Luxembourg, and Greece as we write this. It should also be rolling out to other European markets in the coming days. If you own the device, you can update it over the air from the Settings » Software update menu. You can also download Android 10 firmware from our firmware archive and install it on your Galaxy M20 using a Windows computer to manually upgrade to Android 10 and One UI 2.0.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip stars in another leaked video

The hits just keep on coming, though it doesn’t seem like Samsung cares at this point. The Korean giant’s new foldable phone has shown up in yet another video ahead of its official announcement. This time, it was caught on camera presumably in some retail store at an unknown location. The device was spotted at the store by an Instagram user who proceeded to post a short video on their account.

In this particular instance, the Galaxy Z Flip is covered by a thick case that is designed to prevent leaks. We saw Samsung using a similar case when it first revealed the Galaxy Fold to the world at its developer conference in November 2018 to hide the design of the device while showing off its folding screen. As such, the video doesn’t really show us anything new, though we do get to see how the display can stay open at various angles and how it doesn’t just snap between fully unfolded and folded positions.

For those who haven’t seen it, a previously leaked video offers a much better look at Samsung’s upcoming foldable phone. Specifically, that video reveals just how satisfying it will be to snap shut the Z Flip’s foldable display, something we will soon get to try out ourselves as there are only four days left to the phone’s unveiling. You won’t have to wait long to be able to do that, either, as the Galaxy Z Flip is expected to start hitting retail shelves from February 14.

Samsung will release the Galaxy M31 in several European markets

Samsung’s M series devices are mainly targeted at markets like India, but some do make it to shops in Europe. Now, evidence emerges that the Galaxy M31 will be released in several European countries.

Galaxy M31 coming to Europe

Last year, Samsung brought its Galaxy M20 and M30 to a number of European markets, be it in limited quantities and through limited sales channels. With the unveiling of the brand new Galaxy M31 fast approaching, our friends at GalaxyClub reveal that this device, too, is headed for Europe.

Local versions of the Galaxy M31 are being developed for markets such as Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK, Scandinavia, and the Netherlands. Though we can not be sure the phone will ultimately be released in all of these countries, it is certain to make it to at least some of these, with Southern Europe and Germany being the most likely given the release history of previous M series devices.

Just recently, Samsung India took to teasing the launch of the Galaxy M31 with a huge battery and 64-megapixel main camera. The phone will share many of its main features with the M30s, including the 6,000 mAh battery, the Exynos 9611 soc, and the 6.4-inch Infinity-U display.

Galaxy M21 may be on the horizon too

Though the Galaxy M31 is likely to launch first, the Galaxy M21 may eventually make it to European shops as well. European iterations of that device, too, seem to be under testing at this moment.  Details, however, remain scarce, so if you live in Europe and are looking for the Samsung device with the biggest battery, we recommend setting your sights on the M31 for now. Still, you will probably have to wait a bit, as the phone is set to hit Asian countries first, other parts of the globe following only sometime later in the year.

Samsung Galaxy Wearable app now allows pairing with Galaxy Buds+

The Galaxy Buds+ are yet to go official, but Samsung’s Galaxy Wearable app already has the option to connect to the company’s upcoming wireless earbuds. We previously saw the Galaxy Buds+ listed in the iOS app that Samsung is preparing to launch for the earbuds, and on Galaxy and Android devices, the Galaxy Wearable app now mentions the Galaxy Buds+ as well.

We have often seen unreleased Samsung wearables listed in the Galaxy Wearable app, which allows one to connect to Galaxy/Gear smartwatches, fitness trackers, and wireless earbuds on Galaxy and Android devices. The latest version of the app was released on February 1 and shows the Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Buds+ as the first option on the device selection screen. Naturally, since no one (except Samsung and its partners) has the new earbuds, this option can only be used to pair with the original Galaxy Buds for now.

At the moment, there is no word on when the Galaxy Buds+ will go on sale after they are unveiled at Samsung’s Unpacked event on February 11. The Galaxy Z Flip, the company’s new clamshell foldable phone, is rumored to go on sale on February 14, and considering the device has no headphone jack, Samsung could release the Galaxy Buds+ with it. The Buds+ may even be bundled with the Galaxy Z Flip, just like the Galaxy Buds come packaged with every Galaxy Fold, though that isn’t something we can confirm right now.

Thanks for the tip, Sleepy Kuma!
