Samsung shares its vision for the smart home of the future

Samsung is already one of the biggest vendors of home appliances in the world. It’s going to leverage that position and establish itself as a serious player in the smart home market. Samsung has been focusing on the Internet of Things quite a lot over the past few years. It’s now sharing its vision for the smart home of the future.

From September 8 to October 23, Samsung will showcase its vision for the smart home at the Gwangju Design Biennale. It’s a leading international exhibition of contemporary art. The exhibition features exhibitors from more than 30 countries this year.

Samsung’s exhibit will provide visitors the chance to experience the future of the smart home. It showcases how home appliances are all connected to each other through the latest advancements in IoT. Samsung’s Family Hub refrigerator plays a central role in the smart home with the Samsung Connect app being at the heart of the smart home vision.

Samsung Connect was first demonstrated at IFA 2017. It’s an integrated app system that controls different home appliances. Since it’s based in the cloud, it’s compatible with any device or operating system. Users can rely on this app to control and check on the status of nearly all connected devices in their home. The app will eventually get voice support as well.

The company says that it’s planning to focus on expanding services by collaborating with other smart home companies. It’s also going to increase the range of devices compatible with the SmartThings ecosystem.

Samsung teams up with WeChat Pay for the Galaxy Note 8 in China

Samsung’s smartphone division hasn’t been performing very well in China. The company has been reduced to a single-digit market share in one of the most lucrative smartphone markets. Samsung is hoping for a surge in market share with the Galaxy Note 8. It’s now relying on local partnerships to help push the new flagship device.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 8 in China last week. It held an event at the 798 Art Zone in Beijing. More than 900 officials from business partners and the media were present.

The chief of Samsung’s mobile division DJ Koh said that Samsung will “make a continued effort to earn trust and love from Chinese consumers based on our technological prowess.” Koh referred to China as “the most important market” and confirmed that the Galaxy Note 8 will be released in the country on September 29.

Samsung announced a deal with China’s largest online payments platform Alipay last year. The deal made Alipay available through Samsung Pay. Customers in China could then link their Alipay accounts and make mobile payments using Samsung Pay’s NFC and MST technologies.

Samsung has now inked a similar deal with WeChat Pay. It has now made Samsung Pay compatible with two of the largest mobile payment platforms in the country. This should, in theory, give a boost to Samsung Pay in China.

The company has also teamed up with a bike-sharing startup in China called Mobike. Galaxy Note 8 owners will be able to ride Mobike bikes by scanning QR codes and following simple procedures.

It remains to be seen if these moves by Samsung will help it regain lost glory in the Chinese smartphone market.

Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 8 ad is about falling in love

Samsung has always positioned the Galaxy Note 8 as a productivity behemoth. It’s not difficult to see why. The handset has a large display with specific software features aimed at enhancing productivity. It comes with the S Pen stylus which aids in productivity as well. However, Samsung’s latest ad for the Galaxy Note 8 is about something else entirely.

Titled “I Love You,” the ad is about falling in love or how the Galaxy Note 8 can help you along that path. It highlights Live Message, a new software feature that Samsung introduced with the Galaxy Note 8.

Live Message is a new way to communicate using the S Pen. The feature is similar to Apple’s Digital Touch handwriting tool but isn’t restricted to one app. Live Message can provide a blank canvas for users to doodle on or they can use any image on their device and add a personal touch to it.

It lets users create 15-second handwritten notes and drawings that are transformed into GIFs. The GIFs can then be shared using any app that supports them such as WhatsApp, Twitter, WeChat and more.

The Galaxy Note 8 was released by Samsung last week. It will gradually be available in more markets across the globe in the coming weeks.
