Daily Deal: 49% off (renewed) Samsung Galaxy Watch 46mm

We have posted plenty of deals on Samsung’s smartwatches before, and we have another one today: You can get the Galaxy Watch 46mm for 49% off. The Galaxy Watch is Samsung’s most current smartwatch with the company’s rotating bezel, a feature that is missing on the Galaxy Watch Active and only exists in virtual form on the newly announced Galaxy Watch Active 2. The Galaxy Watch is an excellent smartwatch that is almost perfect, as we had said in our review, and it’s got all the features you would expect, including fitness tracking for almost 40 different workouts.

The deal is for a renewed version of the watch, which means it will work and look like a new product and is backed by Amazon’s 90-day Amazon Renewed Guarantee, so you can get it replaced or refunded if it doesn’t work as you expect. Hit the Buy Now button below to place your order before the price goes back up again.

Good Lock to support mysterious Multi Sound feature on Galaxy Note 10

A possible new Good Lock feature that may be introduced on the Galaxy Note 10 has been revealed by the changelog for the latest update for Good Lock’s MultiStar plugin. The changelog mentions that the update adds something called ‘Multi Sound’ and that this feature will be supported on “restricted models (like upcoming note10) with certain frameworks versions and later.” There’s no information on what Multi Sound is, so we will have to turn to a bit of guesswork.

As the name suggests, Multi Sound sounds like it will let audio from two apps play at the same time when they’re used in Multi Window mode. However, this is already possible with MultiStar once the option to run Multi Window apps without pausing is enabled, so we’re not sure what Multi Sound will bring to the table. Perhaps it will add the ability to adjust the individual volumes for each app in Multi Window mode – you can already set volumes for individual apps in Samsung’s Sound Assistant app, and maybe Multi Sound will incorporate that functionality within MultiStar.

Again, this is all guesswork, and there’s no way of knowing without further details from the app’s developers and without running MultiStar on a Galaxy Note 10. It’s worth noting that Good Lock and its plugins are not available in every country, so even if Multi Sound turns out to be a useful feature, not everyone who buys the 10 will be able to access it officially from Samsung’s Galaxy Store. That doesn’t mean they won’t be able to access it all, though – they would just need to download the APK files for Good Lock and its plugins from our APK database and install them manually.

What do you think Multi Sound could be?

Samsung’s first mobile chipset with AMD graphics could launch in 2021

Samsung’s first mobile chipset to feature AMD graphics might be released in 2021. This is according to a recent Notebookcheck report citing AMD CEO Lisa Su during a Q2 earnings call.

No other details pertaining to the Samsung-AMD collaboration have been revealed but, as a reminder, the partnership is not new. The companies announced their newfound alliance a couple of months ago when the idea of a Samsung gaming mobile device started sounding like a real possibility.

Mobile gaming hardware to become more prevalent

The fact that mobile gaming is still growing in popularity has prompted a few smartphone manufacturers to create smartphones dedicated to gaming. Although these early gaming devices may have not made too big of a dent into the market yet, it looks like more smartphone OEMs entertain the idea of creating their own mobile gaming machines. They anticipate that the 5G era will popularize the concept even further.

Today, gaming phones usually promise better cooling and often come with some form of RGB exterior lighting. But more importantly, mobile gaming enthusiasts expect a good chipset in their phones, complete with a powerful GPU.

Samsung might want a piece of the mobile gaming market

Samsung’s smartphones are powered either by ARM Mali or Adreno graphics chips, depending on whether the device has an Exynos or Qualcomm SoC. However, Samsung’s collaboration with AMD, who is a graphics chip powerhouse and powers the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, might put the South Korean company on the map as a manufacturer who’s serious about gaming phones beyond the point of adding some gaming-oriented software features to devices like the Galaxy Note 9.

If the tentative 2021 launch date for Samsung’s first AMD-powered chipset will materialize then we might get to see Samsung’s first gaming-oriented mobile device making its debut in a couple of years.

Do you have any expectations from a gaming smartphone? What features would you like to see Samsung adopting for its first hypothetical gaming phone? Is RGB lighting important to you? Do you feel like Samsung should not make a gaming phone at all? Feel free to let us know in the comment section below.

Galaxy Watch Active 2 lets you watch YouTube videos from your wrist

With the number of leaks and rumors preceding the actual Galaxy Watch Active 2 announcement, it’s surprising to learn of a new feature that managed to fly under the radar up to this point. And without further ado, this new addition to Samsung’s latest wearable is the ability to play YouTube videos.

This feature has so far been confirmed by a couple of websites including The Verge and Engadget. Now, whether or not you would need to watch videos from your wrist on a small circular display is debatable, and to be honest, it might not be the most exciting change to remain unspoiled by all of the leaks and rumors. The feature is there nonetheless, and even if it probably isn’t too practical, I suppose it might give some users a bit of a Bond feeling or a bit of leverage when asking other people “can your smartwatch do this?

But being able to watch YouTube videos on the Galaxy Watch Active 2 is not the only new feature added to Samsung’s latest wearable. An ECG sensor is also present, although it will be activated later down the line once it will be approved by the FDA. Other fitness-related sensors have been improved as well.

The Watch Active 2 brings back the bezel functionality, albeit in software/virtual form through the touchscreen itself. Is it a proper replacement of the physical bezel? Some of our readers think it is, others do not. We’ll talk more about the bezel and other changes and additions in our Watch Active 2 hands-on, so stay tuned.

Check out these Galaxy Watch Active 2 promo videos featuring Roy Choi

The Galaxy Watch Active 2 has just been officially introduced. Traditionally, Samsung also published a couple of brand new promo videos for the fresh wearable. They’re edited in the same style as the Galaxy Tab S6 promos, with one of them being titled “A Day with the Galaxy Watch Active 2.”

Both promo videos feature chef and entrepreneur Roy Choi who became popular thanks to his Korean-Mexican taco truck food chain Kogi. He shares that he has been running his businesses using mostly his smartphone and smartwatch, and claims to have been an early adopter of the original Galaxy Watch Active.

S Health has improved and will get even better

One of the video’s highlights is the fact that the Galaxy Watch Active 2 comes with a better version of S Health. The smartwatch can track 39 workouts and tracking should now be faster thanks to improved sensors. This year, Samsung stepped up its game further by embedding an ECG sensor into the wearable; however, it will remain disabled until the FDA approves it. Once that happens, the Galaxy Watch Active 2 will become an even better tool for monitoring one’s health.

The Galaxy Watch Active 2 will release in two sizes and various colors and color combinations later this month. Will you buy one? Are you already an owner of the first Watch Active? Has using a smartwatch changed your daily life in significant ways? Let us know in the comment section below.

Galaxy Watch Active 2 price goes as high as 469 euro

The Galaxy Watch Active 2 has gone official today, just six months after the Galaxy Watch Active was released. Samsung had teased the announcement last week and has now detailed everything its new smartwatch brings to the table, but the company has not provided information on a release date and pricing, only saying the watch will be available later this month. However, thanks to the folks over at AllAboutSamsung, we now have the prices for each Galaxy Watch Active 2 model.

The Galaxy Watch Active 2 comes in two sizes — 44mm and 40mm — and also has a Bluetooth and LTE variant of both. The two sizes are further divided into the type of material used to make the watch: there’s a lightweight aluminium model and a premium stainless steel variant. The 40mm Bluetooth aluminium model is the cheapest at 299 euro, and its stainless steel variant commands a 100 euro premium and is priced at 399 euro.

44mm LTE model costs a whopping 469 euro

The 44mm Bluetooth model, meanwhile, is priced at 319 euro and 419 euro for the aluminium and stainless steel models respectively. The LTE-enabled Galaxy Watch Active 2 is only available in stainless steel and is priced at 449 euro for the 40mm version and 469 euro for the 44mm version. It’s too bad Samsung isn’t offering the LTE model in an aluminium make, which would have made for lower prices than what the company is asking right now.

It’s worth noting that these are recommended retail prices and may vary by market. As for a release date, we can assume the Watch Active 2 will go on sale alongside the Galaxy Tab S6 on August 23 — likely to be the release date for the Galaxy Note 10 as well — in some European markets and come to other countries in the days that follow, but we will need to wait for official confirmation to be sure.

Galaxy Watch Active 2 goes official with touch bezel, new features and LTE

We had exclusively revealed a month ago that Samsung already had the Galaxy Watch Active 2 in development. Not only that, we also revealed that it was going to offer the smartwatch in two different case sizes. The Galaxy Watch Active 2 has been officially unveiled today. It does indeed come in two case sizes: 44mm and 40mm. While it may not look entirely different compared to the Galaxy Watch Active, Samsung has made some meaningful additions to the new smartwatch. Samsung says that its latest smartwatch has been designed to help balance wellness with greater connectivity.

Two display sizes, digital touch bezel

The 44mm and 40mm models feature a 1.4-inch and 1.2-inch 360×360 Super AMOLED display respectively. Both use the same Exynos 9110 Dual core processor as the Galaxy Watch Active with 768MB RAM and 4GB storage (the LTE models get 1.5GB RAM). There’s a 340 mAh battery inside the 44mm model and a 247mAh battery inside the 40mm model. The Watch Active 2 connects to smartphones and tablets through Bluetooth 5.0. The watch has IP68 water resistance (up to 50 metres in depth for 10 minutes), along with MIL-STD-810G certification for military-grade ruggedness.

The Galaxy Watch Active ditched Samsung’s signature rotating bezel, which is something that many fans have missed sorely. Samsung has stopped short of bringing it back on the Galaxy Watch Active 2 but has tried to find a middle ground with the touch bezel, a feature we exclusively confirmed was headed to the device. You can swipe your finger both clockwise and counter-clockwise to control the UI accordingly. Samsung has also upgraded One UI on the smartwatch to provide a more natural user experience.

Tracking for 39 workouts, includes ECG sensor

The Galaxy Watch Active 2 can be used to manually track 39 workouts, same as the Galaxy Watch Active, with running, walking, cycling, swimming, rowing machine, elliptical machine, and dynamic workouts being activated automatically. An updated Running Coach is present onboard which lets you monitor your running pace in real-time. The health sensors on the back have been improved so the smartwatch can take readings faster. Stress and sleep tracking are included as well. It has an Electrocardiogram sensor onboard but Samsung may keep the ability to take an ECG with the Galaxy Watch Active 2 disabled until it receives approval from the FDA.

While the Galaxy Watch Active always kept you tethered to your phone if you wanted data access on the smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch Active 2 doesn’t have this limitation. The Galaxy Watch Active 2 with LTE lets you make and receive calls directly on the watch and interact with select social media networks. It has even picked up support for real-time voice and text translation in more than 16 languages. All of the usual Samsung services like SmartThings, Samsung Health, Samsung Pay (NFC-only) and Bixby are present too.

The 44mm and 40mm case sizes can be had in lightweight aluminum with a casual fluoroelastomer (FKM) band or with a leather strap in stainless steel. Additional customization is also possible with the My Style color extraction algorithm, allowing you to match the watch face to your outfit. You can take a photo of your outfit and choose from five different color patterns to make the watch face change colors to match your personal style, which we think is a pretty neat idea.

Furthermore, with the Watch Camera Controller app on the Galaxy Watch Active 2, you can capture photos on your connected phone, switch between cameras, set a timer, record videos, and preview the final images and videos right from the wrist. Samsung says the app is downloadable on the Galaxy S10e, S10, S10+, Galaxy S10 5G, Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy S9, and S9+; the Note 10 and Note 10+ aren’t mentioned, but we can be sure the new flagships will have support for the app out of the box.

Coming later this month, price and release date to follow

The aluminum models are available in Cloud Silver, Aqua Black and Pink Gold colors while the stainless steel will be available in Black, Silver and Gold colors. The LTE model is only going to be offered in stainless steel. Samsung will release the Galaxy Watch Active 2 later this month.

Galaxy Note 10+ gets captured on video on a subway

The Galaxy Note 10+ has seemingly been spotted and captured on video in a subway somewhere around the world. This is pretty much the gist of the latest leak surrounding the device, so if you want to see someone tapping the phone’s screen for a brief moment then you can check the video below. The Note 10+ had earlier been captured in pictures while enjoying a sunny day out in South Korea.

There’s not much else to extract from the video. The phone seems to be wrapped in a protective case of some kind, and the main design elements confirming this is a Galaxy Note 10 are the punch hole at the top of the screen and the side buttons, while the large screen suggests this is the Plus model of Samsung’s upcoming flagship.

The phone in the video is seemingly black but if you prefer a lighter color for your phone, then you’re probably already aware that the Galaxy Note 10 series should have a fair palette. The lineup should be available in black, white, prism silver, and pink/rose, while the red and blue color options might be more limited and become available later down the line.

There’s little chance at this point to be surprised by anything the Galaxy Note 10 series might have to offer, but in case there’s one proverbial stone that’s been left unturned then we will learn all about it in the coming days. The Galaxy Note 10 will be unveiled on Wednesday – August 7 – and should become available for purchase weeks later.

Galaxy M30 launches in Vietnam, sales begin on August 13

Samsung has announced the launch of the Galaxy M30 in Vietnam. The smartphone will be sold exclusively through Lazada e-shop starting August 13. The Galaxy M30 was launched in India back in February as the third member of Samsung’s new Galaxy M budget lineup. The Galaxy M10, M20, and M30 were joined by the Galaxy M40 in June.

Galaxy M30 specifications

Samsung launched the Galaxy M10 and the Galaxy M20 targeting the huge online market in India. The devices became an instant hit and the company soon expanded the portfolio by launching the Galaxy M30. As we concluded in our review, the M30 is an M20 ‘Plus’ with meaningful additions. It features a 6.4-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-U display. Under the hood is an Exynos 7904 processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

On the back, the M30 sports a triple-camera setup which includes a 13MP primary camera, 5MP depth sensor, and a 5MP ultra-wide lens. The front-facing camera is a 16MP sensor. There’s also a fingerprint sensor beside the rear camera setup. The smartphone packs a 5,000mAh battery with support for 15W fast charging.

The Galaxy M30 will be available in Vietnam starting August 13. The handset comes in Gradation Black and Gradation Blue color options with a price tag of VND 5,590,000 (~$242). However, on the opening day of sale, that is on August 13, it will be available at a special price of VND 4,990,000 (~$216).

Verizon’s Galaxy Note 9 gets Night mode and QR scanner with latest update

Verizon has become the first US carrier to release an update with the anticipated Night mode for the Galaxy Note 9. Software build N960USQU2CSGA started rolling out late last week and, along with a dedicated Night mode for the camera, it brings the QR scanner feature and the July 2019 security patch. It remains to be seen when other carriers will release a similar update or when the Galaxy S9 will get the new camera features stateside.

The Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S9 manage to offer the same image quality with pictures shot using Night mode as the Galaxy S10 lineup, thanks to the fact that these devices use the same primary camera sensors. The Note 9 and S9 tend to sometimes fail to save Night mode pictures, however, and it’s unclear if there’s a fix for that issue in the update Verizon is rolling out right now. There probably isn’t, considering the problem hasn’t yet been solved on the Exynos variants of the device, either.

As for the QR scanner feature, it allows you to scan QR codes by pointing your phone’s camera at them; Bixby Vision is no longer required. The feature can be enabled or disabled using the Scan QR codes toggle in the camera settings. You will also find a toggle called QR scanner in the notification shade, although this toggle is a bit redundant considering it just launches the camera app for you, something you can do with a double press of the power button as well.

If you’re a Galaxy Note 9 user on Verizon, the update should already be available for your device over the air. Just open the Settings app on the phone, navigate to Software update, then select the Download and install option. You might have to do this a couple of times before the update starts downloading.

[Updated] Latest Galaxy Watch update improves swim tracking, disables alarm sync

The latest Galaxy Watch update makes some improvements to the smartwatch. A similar update was already released for the Gear S3 by Samsung just last week. As many of you are aware, the Galaxy Watch is the successor to that device, Samsung just decided not to call it the Gear S4.

A new firmware update is now rolling out for both the 42mm and 46mm Galaxy Watch. Reports about the release have come in from the United States so far. It should receive the update in other markets soon as well.

Latest Galaxy Watch update brings improvements

Samsung is now rolling out firmware version R810XXU1CSG4 for the Galaxy Watch. It’s a 15.36MB download. The official changelog mentions that this update improves the overall system reliability.

It also disables the automated sync of alarms from the paired smartphone. This has already been done for the Gear S3 with its most recent firmware update. The change was made because after the One UI update, the Gear S3 had been copying the settings for alarms from the phone on its own. That would override any changes made to the alarm on the smartwatch.

This meant that if users wanted the watch to only vibrate for their morning alarm and their phone to both ring and vibrate, they’d wake up to find the watch ringing for the alarm as well. This update will prevent that from happening on the Galaxy Watch.

The Galaxy Watch is capable of tracking your swim workouts. This update improves tracking for that activity. Just how noticeable these improvements are can only be ascertained by actually tracking a swimming workout. Expect this latest Galaxy Watch firmware update to arrive in more markets in the near future.

Update – The above update is now rolling out more widely. To check for the update, open the Galaxy Wearable app, go to About watch, select Update watch software, and tap Update now.

Galaxy Note 10 ‘Superfast Charge’ feature confirmed by Samsung’s website

Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy Note 10 supports what it calls ‘Superfast Charge’. Like it did with the Galaxy S10, Samsung will be holding a ‘Galaxy First Look’ event at the Samsung 837 store in New York City to allow the public to experience the Galaxy Note 10 after it goes official, and the description for this event is where the company has mentioned Superfast Charge as one of “the highly-anticipated new features” of the upcoming flagship.

Superfast Charge, as the name suggests, will enable faster wired charging speeds on the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+. Samsung isn’t giving out the specifics, but the devices should support 25W fast charging like the Galaxy S10 5G, Galaxy A70, and Galaxy A80 at the very least. Rumors say the Note 10+ will support 45W charging speeds, but the required charger will be a separate purchase. Not everyone will want to get that charger, though, as even 25W charging will be a considerable upgrade compared to the 15W Adaptive Fast Charge tech found on every other Galaxy phone.

As for wireless charging, the Note 10 and Note 10+ are said to support 12W and 20W fast wireless charging respectively. Reverse wireless charging will be available as well, something Samsung confirms alongside Superfast Charge on its website. Battery capacities, meanwhile, are expected to be 3,500 mAh for the Note 10 and 4,300 mAh for the Note 10+.

The Galaxy First Look event for the Galaxy Note 10 will be held on August 10 (Saturday), and if you’re interested in visiting and getting a hands-on experience, you will need to sign up at Samsung’s website here. It’s a first-come-first-served affair, so you might want to register as soon as possible.
