Just a week after releasing the Android 11-based One UI 3.0 update for the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Samsung has started updating the Z Fold 2’s predecessor. In fact, it seems the rollout kicked off early last week in France but was limited to Samsung’s Smart Switch software instead of going out over the air, though that should change in the coming days as the update is now available in the UAE as well.
Galaxy Fold owners in France and the UAE can now update to Android 11 by downloading the new firmware from our archives. It may also be available directly from the phone, which you can check by opening the Settings app, selecting Software update, and tapping Download and install. The update comes with firmware version F900FXXU4DUA1 and is only available for the international LTE variant at this time.
The update will introduce Android 11 features like chat bubbles, a conversation section in the notifications area, one-time permissions, and a dedicated media playback widget, along with a refreshed user interface and improved stock Samsung apps and a couple of other new features courtesy of One UI 3.0. The latest security patch is included as well.
It’s worth noting that some markets may not get Android 11 and One UI 3.0 before February, if Samsung’s official roadmap is to be believed. You can find the roadmap for your country in the Samsung Members app’s Notices section on your Galaxy Fold.
