Galaxy Z Flip’s international variant starts getting July 2021 security update

Samsung has already released the July 2021 security update to various smartphones and tablets. Last week, the company rolled out the latest security patch to the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, and yesterday, the update was released to the Galaxy Z Flip’s Sprint variant. Now, Samsung has started rolling out the update to the international version of the Galaxy Z Flip.

The South Korean firm has released a new software update with the July 2021 security patch to the Galaxy Z Flip (SM-F700F) in various European countries. The latest update, which has firmware version F700FXXU6DUF4, has been released in Austria, Baltic countries, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Kazakhstan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Nordic countries, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, the UK, and Ukraine.

As per Samsung’s documentation, the new update fixes close to 20 privacy and security vulnerabilities. The update could also include device stability improvements and a fix for the Android Auto issue that some people were facing.

If you are a Galaxy Z Flip user in any of the countries mentioned above, you might receive the update today. If you don’t receive it by tonight, you can manually check for the update by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. Xiaomi’s next foldable phone is shaping up to be a Galaxy Z Flip clone

With Samsung taking the lead in the foldable segment early on, the few companies that have attempted to rival the Korean tech giant ended up copying it. The clone wars began earlier this year after both Huawei and Xiaomi took the veil off what can be described as “Galaxy Z Fold 2 clones,” but in more recent news, Xiaomi is seemingly looking at Samsung’s flip phone formula with greater interest than ever before.

New evidence shows that Xiaomi is considering building a foldable clamshell smartphone that looks very similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip. According to sketches found at WIPO by 91mobiles, the mysterious foldable Xiaomi phone has two-rear facing cameras and a very small cover display.

It’s a familiar sight, to say the least. But it’s worth reminding that sketches found at WIPO don’t guarantee an actual market release. Rather, these documents were filed with WIPO as a way for Xiaomi to protect its intellectual property, which is interesting given that the sketches depict a barely-modified Galaxy Z Flip.

Samsung has set the trend. Others must now follow

The Galaxy Z Flip is not the only smartphone on the market to feature a foldable display in a clamshell form factor, but it is arguably the only relevant one, with Motorola’s attempt at revitalizing the RAZR lineup using foldable display technology falling flat even after the launch of the Gen. 2 model.

In contrast, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip is very successful, and the company is now working on a direct sequel that’s expected to go on sale as the Galaxy Z Flip 3. In fact, Samsung’s display arm feels confident enough in its foldable screen manufacturing abilities that it’s reportedly supplying foldable panels to other OEMs, including Google, Vivo, and indeed Xiaomi.

With that in mind, if Xiaomi is working on a clamshell foldable as indicated by these WIPO documents, the phone might not only use the same display technology as the Galaxy Z Flip / Z Flip 3, but it will probably look similar too.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 S Pen Pro compatibility has been confirmed by the FCC

Samsung has abandoned the Galaxy Note series for the time being, but the S Pen accessory is here to stay, and the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3 will support it. This much was made clear by all the previous leaks and reports, but there’s even more evidence to support this theory now.

The unreleased S Pen Pro was recently approved by the FCC with model number EJ-P5450 in tow. This accessory was originally announced in January 2021 alongside the regular S Pen for the Galaxy S21 Ultra, but it was never brought to the market, with Samsung teasing a release later this year.

The S Pen Pro is now finally being prepared for prime time, judging by its presence at the FCC. And according to the official label that was attached to the FCC files (seen below), the S Pen Pro will be compatible with the Galaxy Note 10 Lite (and presumably the standard Note 10 / Note 10+, even though they are not mentioned), the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G, the Galaxy Note 20 duo, the Galaxy Tab S7 series, the Galaxy Tab S6, and of course, the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G.

S Pen Pro has Bluetooth LE and supports Air Actions

The upcoming S Pen Pro has Bluetooth LE connectivity, which of course means that it supports Air Actions, unlike the standard S Pen model that got released earlier this year. The Pro model is also larger and contains an internal battery.

It’s still unclear how the S Pen Pro will be offered alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and whether it will be included in the retail package or sold separately as an optional accessory. It’s probably going to be the latter, given the S Pen Pro’s compatibility with a variety of other Galaxy devices.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is expected to hit the stage at Unpacked in August, though Samsung has yet to confirm an exact date. The foldable device could become available for purchase in late August or in September.

Samsung Internet 15.0 beta is out now with these great new features

The beta version of Samsung Internet enables the company to test new features before they’re released to everyone The great thing about Samsung Internet beta is that anyone can download it. So if you feel like it, you can test new features before they become mainstream.

Today, Samsung Internet 15.0 beta has been rolled out. As you’d expect, Samsung has included new features that some of you may really want to try out. The latest beta version is now available for download.

Latest beta version brings new features

Samsung has been improving the security and privacy features of its web browser a lot recently. This has been a core area of focus for the company. Samsung Internet 15.0 beta introduces a new feature that protects you against fingerprinting. This practice tracks network use to correlate information about users.

With its enhanced anti-tracking technology, the latest Samsung Internet beta ensures you remain protected against this. Users now have more control over the data that the browser stores on their devices.

Not only can they delete the saved data, but they can also see exactly what’s being deleted. They can then choose whether they’d like to retain cached images and files or autofill forms. It’s great to see Samsung bring such granular controls that largely exist on desktop browsers to its mobile browser.

To improve user experience, the latest beta temporarily stores previous web pages so that users can revisit them without having to reload them. This reduces data usage as users browser through different webpages.

Secret mode has been improved as well. Once it’s enabled, the browser will remain in Secret mode even if the app is closed and relaunched. This eliminates additional steps for users when they want to activate the mode later on.

Lastly, Samsung Internet 15.0 beta brings an intuitive new search widget. Just place it on the home screen and use it to quickly search for information online either by typing or using voice input.

Samsung Internet 15.0 beta is now available for download from the Galaxy Store and the Google Play Store or you can just grab it from our APK page.

Samsung and Tesla sign a half a billion dollars deal for Cybertruck cameras

Future Tesla Cybertruck owners will reportedly have their rearview ‘mirrors’ powered by Samsung Electro-Mechanics. The latter company has apparently struck a deal with Tesla worth $436 million, and as a result, Samsung will reportedly supply the biggest EV manufacturer in the USA with its camera modules.

The reports originates from a couple of South Korean publications and claim that Samsung’s camera modules will be used by Tesla’s latest electric vehicle that was unveiled in November 2019, i.e., the Cybertruck. The prototype vehicle showcased on stage wasn’t equipped with conventional rearview mirrors, but instead, it used an array of cameras connected to the dashboard’s displays. The production model shouldn’t be all that different from the original prototype, and these reports further confirm that the Cybertruck will have a mirrorless design.

Samsung-Tesla tie-ins go back half a decade

Samsung and Tesla forming partnerships around EV technologies isn’t something new. The Korean tech giant has supplied Tesla with other EV-related technologies before, including batteries, and reports indicate that the new PixCell LED headlamp developed by Samsung will also be used by Tesla for its future EVs.

The AWD (all-wheel drive) Tesla Cybertruck model was originally planned to enter production later this year, with the the RWD (rear-wheel drive) model being slated for release in late 2022. There were rumors of a possible delay but it remains uncertain. Regardless of when the Cybertruck might go on sale, it will apparently leverage Samsung technologies for intelligent features.

Samsung is fighting document forgery with blockchain technology

Samsung SDS is expanding into cloud-based Blockchain-as-a-Service (BaaS) areas with the release of a new service called ‘Paperless.’ The company revealed that its latest service improves reliability and transparency through off-chain technology. It safely manages documents that are prone to forgery, including consent forms, certificates, and contracts. The service can even be applied in areas that require proof documents, like voting, and Samsung is already using Paperless for company-wide management.

Paperless works by encrypting and storing large volumes of documents at a separate server and recording only the hash value on the blockchain. All data history — from creation to revision and disposal of documents — is recorded on the blockchain in real-time. Because of this, Paperless is not only secure but can also address the slowdown of blockchain transactions caused by massive data volumes.

Samsung SDS clients can use Paperless and the standard API without having to set up additional systems. The company already uses Paperless for managing and securing salary contracts for its own employees, as well as for company-wide voting.

Samsung wants to ‘deliver new values’ for its clients, which is why the company plans to expand upon Paperless and provide an even wider range of cloud-based blockchain services such as cloud-based payments and identity authentication.

Reminder: No new Galaxy Note flagship is coming in 2021

The Galaxy Note series is extremely important for Samsung, and there has been at least one Galaxy Note device every year since the launch of the original Galaxy Note. However, the company won’t launch any new Galaxy Note smartphone this year, which might disappoint many Galaxy Note fans.

It was being rumored last year that Samsung will kill the Galaxy Note series and that the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra would be the last devices in the lineup. However, DJ Koh, co-CEO of Samsung’s IT and Mobile Communications division, confirmed during Samsung’s 52nd annual shareholder’s meeting earlier this year that the company will launch a new Galaxy Note smartphone next year.

Apparently, the company decided not to launch the Galaxy Note 21 (tentative naming) in 2021 due to the global chip shortage and a clash with the Galaxy S21 Ultra, which supports the S Pen. The South Korean firm intends to launch a new Galaxy Note device sometime next year when the chip shortage problem minimizes a bit.

If you were thinking of buying a new Galaxy Note series device this year, you won’t be able to do so. As an alternative, you can either buy last year’s Galaxy Note 20 or Galaxy Note 20 Ultra or you can buy the Galaxy S21 Ultra and get an official case that comes with an S Pen and a silo to store the stylus. You can also wait for another month and buy the Galaxy Z Fold 3, which is also compatible with the S Pen.

If Samsung launches a proper Galaxy Note series smartphone in the second half of 2022, it could feature a large Super AMOLED display with an under-display selfie camera, an S Pen, the Exynos 2200 processor with AMD mRDNA2 GPU (Snapdragon 895 in some markets), and a high-capacity battery with fast wired charging and fast wireless charging.

Leaked Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 price range will excite you

The foldables are Samsung’s most expensive smartphones. Why wouldn’t they be. They’re still a niche product, they use more expensive materials and the manufacturing process is more intensive as well.

However, price is also the biggest hurdle the company faces in trying to sell as many units as it possibly can. That’s one of the reasons why Samsung decided to reduce the price of both upcoming foldable smartphones.

Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 will get impressive price cuts

We exclusively revealed not too long ago that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 will be cheaper than their predecessors. Customers can expect a price cut of up to 20%. That’s going to be a big reduction.

Since then, multiple reports have reiterated that these new foldables will be cheaper than the devices they replace. The question remains, though, how much will be the price cut? While an exact figure hasn’t emerged as yet, the expected price range for the devices in South Korea has now surfaced.

Per reports, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 price will be finalized in the 1,900,000 – 1,999,000 KRW ($1,655 – $1,741) range. It’s expected to be locked in closer to 1,999,000. The Galaxy Z Flip 3’s range is said to be 1,200,000 – 1,280,000 KRW ($1,045 – $1,110) with it possibly being finalized closer to 1,200,000 KRW.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 was priced at 2,398,000 KRW in South Korea at launch. The Galaxy Z Fold 3’s expected price makes is almost 17% cheaper than its predecessor. The Galaxy Z Flip was 1,650,000 KRW at launch. At its expected price, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 will see an impressive 27% reduction.

Samsung is also expected to really push trade-in offers with the highest rates being offered for existing foldables. There’s enough of them out there now for Samsung to seriously incentivize current Galaxy Z smartphone owners to upgrade.

How much the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 will cost in your country depends on many different factors. In any case, you can expect a decent price cut on the upcoming foldables. Now doesn’t that sound like music to your ears?!

Samsung aims to start manufacturing 3nm chips in 2022

Samsung is the second-biggest contract chip manufacturer globally, and its current best fabrication process is 5nm LPE. The company was expected to start manufacturing chips using its 3nm technology later this year. However, the plan seems to have been delayed by one year, and the company now expects to start the mass production of 3nm chips in late 2022.

The company revealed its updated product roadmap in China during the Foundry Forum 2021 event last week. Samsung Foundry, the South Korean chaebol’s semiconductor chip manufacturing arm, showcased that 5LPP and 4LPP processes will be used to mass-produce chips in high volumes 2021 and 2022, respectively. The company’s 3nm GAA (Gate-All-Around) technology is absent from the product roadmap. However, Samsung Foundry’s spokesperson confirmed to AnandTech that the company will fabricate chips sometime in 2022 and that it has been in discussion with some customers regarding the process.

Samsung could launch a 3nm Exynos processor in late 2022

The 3GAE (3nm Gate-All-Around Early) technology, an early iteration of Samsung’s 3nm process, will only be used by System LSI that makes Exynos processors. Maybe that’s why it is missing from the company’s roadmap. The 3GAP (3nm Gate-All-Around Plus) process will be used to manufacture chips sometime in 2023, and it is expected to be available to a wider range of customers.

When Samsung had unveiled its MBCFET-based 3nm process node, it had promised a 35% performance increase, a 50% power consumption reduction, and a 45% area reduction compared to its 7nm LPP process. The company had announced that it expected to use the 3nm technology to make chips in 2021, but that has now been delayed to late 2022. Until then, Samsung Foundry’s clients are expected to switch to the 4LPE (4nm Low Power Early) and 4LPP (4nm Low Power Plus) process for their chips. Qualcomm is expected to be among those clients, and the Snapdragon 895 could be based on the 4nm tech.

Galaxy S22 to get 200MP Olympus camera and January 2022 launch

Once Samsung gets done with the August 11 launch of its new foldables, all eyes will then be on the company’s next flagship series. Since there won’t be a new Galaxy Note lineup in 2021, the Galaxy S22 series will be the next set of flagships from Samsung.

It’s silly season in the rumor mill with all sorts of claims flying around. The latest suggests that a 200-megapixel Olympus-branded camera will be onboard. January 2022 is when the Galaxy S22 launch might take place.

200MP camera and the S Pen are expected for the Galaxy S22

Citing multiple industry sources, a Korean publication is claiming that the Galaxy S22 launch will take place in January 2022. That’s not an outrageous claim. The Galaxy S21 series was unveiled in January last year and went on sale the same month. So a January launch would make sense.

The other claim is a bit out there. Apparently, the Galaxy S22 Ultra will have a 200-megapixel camera with the five-lens camera system carrying the Olympus branding. For those who are unaware, Olympus is a Japanese manufacturer of cameras and optical technology known globally for its high quality. A potential Samsung-Olympus collaboration was first floated about three months ago.

Smartphone manufacturers teaming up with big professional camera brands in not unheard of. It would be the first time that Samsung does something like this. Some even suggest that it was actually Olympus that approached Samsung with the idea of working jointly on smartphone camera technology.

Whether or not Samsung actually needs Olympus is another matter. Samsung used to make its own professional-grade mirrorless cameras. It’s also leading the way in smartphone camera technology. So a collaboration with Olympus might be beneficial from a marketing standpoint more than a technological one.

This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about the Galaxy S22 Ultra possibly featuring a 200-megapixel sensor. A recent report actually claimed that Samsung had given up on the idea. The Galaxy S22 Ultra was to feature Samsung’s third-generation 108MP ISOCELL HM3 sensor instead. It appears that at least some still believe that the 200MP camera remains a possibility.

Lastly, this report also claims that the Galaxy S22 Ultra is going to have S Pen support. The Galaxy S21 Ultra has it as well. So we can expect Samsung to maintain the status quo here.

Galaxy M21 Prime Edition launch date possibly revealed by Amazon

The Galaxy M21 isn’t a new device but Samsung has decided to relaunch the device. Several reports have highlighted that the company is going to relaunch this device as the Galaxy M21 Prime Edition.

Its name leaves no doubt as to where this device will go on sale. The Galaxy M21 Prime Edition has been prepared for Amazon and it will soon be available for purchase.

Galaxy M21 Prime Edition will launch with Android 11

Amazon itself is confirming that much. The company has put up a teaser on its online store which includes a render of the device along with a cryptic “21-21-21” message. This suggests that the device itself will be launched on July 21. It will then be available for purchase as part of Samsung’s Prime Day launch on July 26.

The Galaxy M21 Prime Edition will have the same specs as the standard Galaxy M21. This includes a 6.4-inch Full HD+ display, an Exynos 9611 processor with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The handset also features a 6,000mAh battery with support for 15W fast charging.

One big advantage that this device has is that it will come with Android 11 out of the box. This means that customers will get one additional Android OS upgrade in addition to an extra year of security updates.

Much like the Galaxy M31 Prime edition, this device may also have an Always On Amazon app accessible by a simple right swipe on the home screen. Customers can also expect a free trial of Amazon Prime for a couple of months. The Galaxy M21 Prime Edition will be sold exclusively through Amazon in India.

July 2021 security update now heading to Sprint’s Galaxy Z Flip

Samsung had started rolling out the July 2021 security update a couple of weeks ago. The new security patch was first released to the Galaxy S10 series, and then it was expanded to the Galaxy Fold, Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy S21, Galaxy A52, and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G. Now, the update has been released to the Sprint variant of the Galaxy Z Flip.

The carrier variant of the Galaxy Z Flip has started getting the new software update on Sprint’s network in the US. The latest update, which carries firmware version F700USQS4DUF1, includes the July 2021 security patch. It fixes some 20 vulnerabilities related to user privacy and security, including those related to Bluetooth. It also aims to fix the Android Auto bug that some Galaxy smartphone users were facing.

If you are a Galaxy Z Flip user on Sprint’s network in the US, you might have received a notification of the new software update. If you haven’t received the notification yet, you can check for the update manually by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. You can also download the latest firmware file from our firmware database and flash it manually.

Samsung had launched the Galaxy Z Flip in early 2020 with Android 10 on board. The foldable smartphone received the Android 11-based One UI 3 update in December 2020 and the One UI 3.1 update three months ago. As per Samsung’s promise, the Galaxy Z Flip will receive two more Android OS updates.

The Galaxy S21 FE may not be that difficult to find after all

There has been a lot of confusion recently about the Galaxy S21 FE. Samsung’s affordable flagship is certainly due for a release this year but it’s facing a delay. We’ve already reported that the Galaxy S21 FE won’t be out until later in the year.

A recent report had claimed that even when the Galaxy S21 FE does go on sale, it will be difficult to find. The company was apparently considering a launch for very limited markets. That may not be the case.

You just might be able to get the Galaxy S21 after all

According to that report, Samsung was only going to release the Galaxy S21 FE in Europe and the United States. No other market would get the device, even those where an affordably priced flagship would do very well.

A Japanese news agency is now reporting that a Galaxy S21 FE model is now being prepared for launch as part of NTT DoCoMo’s fall lineup of new smartphones. If this is accurate, it suggests that a wider launch is indeed possible. Samsung may not keep the device limited to just Europe and the United States.

The global chip shortage is the reason why Samsung was rumored to make this decision in the first place. The shortage has already resulted in the Galaxy Note 21 being dropped from Samsung’s lineup this year. It’s also why the Galaxy S21 FE won’t launch as soon as it should have.

The actual release of this device is another matter. A major leak over the weekend revealed that the Galaxy S21 FE will be announced alongside Samsung’s new devices at the August 11 Unpacked event. If it’s not ready to provide a launch date yet, Samsung just might give a vague timeframe for the Galaxy S21 FE release.
