Galaxy J7 (2017) for AT&T makes its FCC stop

We’ve been hearing reports over the past couple of months that the Galaxy J7 (2017) will soon be launched in the United States. A recent report claimed that the handset would be launched on Sprint, Verizon, Boost and Virgin. However, it appears that the Galaxy J7 (2017) might be making its way to AT&T as well.

An FCC filing for the Galaxy J7 (2017) has been spotted, it’s for the model number SM-J727A which hints that this device is headed to the country’s second largest mobile carrier. The filing also mentions SM-J727AZ and it’s likely that this is the model that’s headed for Cricket Wireless, AT&T’s prepaid brand.

Samsung is yet to confirm when it’s going to launch the Galaxy J7 (2017) in the United States. The handset is expected to feature a 5.5-inch Full HD display, a 2.2Ghz octa-core processor, 2GB RAM, 13-megapixel rear camera, a 3,000mAh battery and more.

The FCC labels are proof enough that this handset is in the pipeline. It’s just not known at this point in time when it’s going to be released. Hopefully, Samsung will have an answer for us soon.

Get your daily weather forecast in virtual reality with AccuWeather for Gear VR

A globally renowned name in weather information, AccuWeather, has released an app for the Samsung Gear VR which lets users experience and interact with 360-degree video content, weather information and updates in a way they’ve never experienced it before.

Since the app leverages virtual reality, it puts users “in the middle of the action,” as the company says. They will get access to exclusive AccuWeather 360-degree videos for severe weather events in the app including a close view of a tornado in Wray, Colorado. AccuWeather will add new videos weekly to ensure that there’s always fresh content available.

Users can also get all of the information that they would expect from an AccuWeather app such as current weather conditions, daily and hourly forecasts, information about wind speed, wind direction, precipitation, dew point, severe weather alerts and more.

You obviously won’t be using this app when you’re about to step out of the house and want a quick peek at the conditions since it involves fumbling around with a smartphone and a headset. Nevertheless, it’s a good addition to the growing list of VR-compatible apps for the Gear VR.

The AccuWeather – Weather for Life app can now be downloaded from the Oculus Store.

Good on Samsung for using black on the front of every Galaxy S8 color variant

Nothing is confirmed at this point, but it certainly looks like the Galaxy S8 will be offered in at least one new color option we haven’t seen on Samsung’s smartphone lineup (not recently, at least). Whether this color is a shade of grey or violet (or a mix of both) remains to be seen, but if a new leak showing all three color options is to be believed, Samsung could be making all color variants fully black at the front.

Personally, I find this to be a good move on Samsung’s part. First, black is just a universally acceptable good-looking color that everyone can get behind. Second, and perhaps more important as one of our readers pointed out, it will help hide the array of sensors the Galaxy S8 has up front. With so little bezel at the front of the phone, those huge modules for the iris scanner and the front-facing camera could look rather ugly, and making all color variants black around the display is a very easy fix for it.

Then there’s the fact that the black at the front will further hide the minimal amount of bezel, enabling an experience that’s all about the display, something Samsung has been hinting at with its official Galaxy S8 teasers. Given how Samsung’s AMOLED displays beat anything out there in terms of color reproduction and vividness, that can only be a good thing. Oh, and let’s not forget that an AMOLED display looks awesome on a dark-colored device when displaying dark images. If you have the black Galaxy S7 edge (or any other Samsung phone in the same color), just put an all-black wallpaper on the home screen to see what I mean. If anyone remembers the Galaxy Nexus, they’ll know what I’m talking about.

Speaking of the Galaxy Nexus, I’m just hoping Samsung doesn’t put its logo below the display as some images have shown, as that could ruin what would otherwise be a very attractive visual experience. Samsung had removed its logo from the Galaxy S7 and Note 7 in Japan last year, and it would be great to see the company making a similar move in every market with the S8.

Of course, a lot of people will disagree with me, and that’s okay. Color choices are extremely personal, but my preference for black on my smartphones has me excited for the Galaxy S8, a device I”ll go buy on the first day of availability. What do you think about the possibility of every Galaxy S8 variant being all black from the front?

New images show the Galaxy S8′s AKG earphones in the flesh

At the Galaxy Tab S3 unveiling last month, Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy S8 would come with earphones tuned by AKG in the box. The company offered a look at the earphones on-stage, and the same earphones have now appeared in newly leaked images. This is the first time we’re seeing these in the flesh; the earphones have a new, more stylish design that is befitting of earphones for a flagship device, with a braided cable instead of the regular plastic cable Samsung has been using until this point.

There’s no telling how good these earphones will sound unless someone gets to test them, but they will hopefully be significantly better than the earphones Samsung has offered with its flagships in recent years. See more images at the source link, and let us know what you think of Samsung’s new AKG earphones!

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus colors and pricing leak

Samsung will officially unveil the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus later this month (March 29), but it seems like the company is unable to plug the leaks. Information regarding the company’s upcoming flagship smartphones as well as their European price tags have been leaked.

Prolific leakster Evan Blass (@evleaks on Twitter) has tweeted an image of the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus today, showcasing these smartphones in three color variants: Black Sky, Orchid Grey, and Arctic Silver. In another tweet, Evan has leaked the pricing of these smartphones along with the price tags of the DeX Station accessory, upcoming GearVR headset, and the second-generation Gear 360 camera.

As per the information tweeted by Evan, the Galaxy S8 and the S8 Plus would be priced at €799 and €899, respectively. The DeX station, GearVR, and the Gear 360 seem to carry price tags of €150, €129, and €229, respectively. We can’t say whether this information is accurate, so take it with a pinch of salt and wait till the official unveiling before believing anything.

Galaxy S8 spotted in blue, gray and silver colors

As the Galaxy S8 release draws near we’ve been hearing a lot of reports about the color options that Samsung is going to offer for its new flagship smartphone. Merely a day after we saw a leaked picture of what appears to be a violet Galaxy S8, we’ve come across four leaked pictures of the upcoming flagship that show the handset in blue, gray and silver colors.

These are obviously not the only colors that the new flagship is expected to be offered in. We’ve seen many leaked photos of the Galaxy S8 in a rich black color and it may even be offered in some shade of gold. It’s safe to say that there will most likely be five or more color options for the Galaxy S8.

However, it remains to be seen what colors are offered in different markets across the globe. We’ve seen Samsung only offer certain color options in select markets where it expects them to perform better so it’s likely going to stick to that strategy for the Galaxy S8 as well.
