Galaxy S7 survives being immersed in water for 16 hours

Samsung claims that its latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S7, can survive being immersed in water as deep as 1.5-meters for approximately thirty minutes. However, one very optimistic YouTuber, who operates under the name of Unbox Therapy, took it upon himself to push the handset to the extreme in order to see if it could last not one, not two, but sixteen hours in a jar of water. Much to our surprise, after removal from the receptacle, the device was functioning perfectly. Although, we suspect that it had to be left for a very long period of time to dry before it could be recharged.

Check out the experiment in the video below:

Good Lock update brings bug fixes, additional changes

Have you taken Samsung’s new Good Lock app for a spin? If not, we suggest you do. Some have wondered if this new UI outlook (that mimics vanilla Android to some extent) is here to stay, but Samsung is now answering that question by updating Good Lock. The latest Good Lock update brings some bug fixes that will improve the constant location prompt that would pop up on screen (especially when taking the device out of standby mode), for example. The home bug in the recents menu, along with SD card problems, have also been eliminated.

Samsung has added some features with this Good Lock update, such as 1) charging recognition, 2) a mute status bar indicator, 3) swipe gestures to delete in the recents menu, and 4) brightness bar in the Quick Panel. There are tons of other changes as well, all done with the goal of making Good Lock your preferred lock screen and UI layout.

Samsung introduced Good Lock last week, with the Korean giant providing a preview into the future of TouchWiz. While Good Lock’s light pastel notification shade colors are too pastel and too light on the eyes, Samsung’s new Keep Notifications, recents menu, and additional information via its new quick toggles (such as cellular data usage within the cellular data quick toggle) are to be commended. We’ve been playing around with Good Lock and our own review will go live tomorrow.

Until then, we bid you “Good Lock” (good luck).

Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S7 owners reporting slow motion video issues

If you’re located in China or the United States and you own a Galaxy S7, you may want to check out the slow motion video recording feature on your handset as many users have been complaining that the video stutters and skips during playback. This bug only appears to be affecting those with Snapdragon 820 variants, which are exclusive to the aforementioned regions, and not the South Korean company’s in-house Exynos 8890 model.

Samsung has yet to respond to the comments regarding the fault, which we presume has something to do with a problematic camera driver. If this does turn out to be the case, the bug should be able to be fixed by way of a standard over-the-air (OTA) maintenance update.

In the meantime, be sure to check out the videos below to see the slow-mo stuttering in action.

T-Mobile has released a software update for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge

T-Mobile has released a new software update for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge. It’s not a major update by any means so there’s really not much in the way of new features or changes. This incremental update for Samsung’s latest flagship handsets does make several improvements to overall performance as well as the security of these devices.

The software update notification mentions that this update improves the stability of video recording as well as the overall performance of the device. Security improvements have also been made and device stability improvements and bug fixes are also onboard. T-Mobile is rolling out this latest software update for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge right now and it should go live for all users within a couple of hours at most.

Samsung reportedly shipped 10 million units of the Galaxy S7 last month

There have already been multiple reports about the stellar performance of the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge. Samsung’s Q1 2016 earnings are likely to beat expectations due to the performance of its new flagship smartphones. The company itself hasn’t provided any official sales figures as yet but market watchers in Korea are predicting that Samsung shipped more than 10 million units of the Galaxy S7 last month, it’s unclear whether this figure includes shipments of the Galaxy S7 edge as well.

Samsung probably won’t be providing any official figures until it’s time to release the official earnings for the first quarter of this year, even then it can’t be said for sure if the company will provide precise figures which reveal just how many units of the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge it shipped and subsequently sold. Samsung’s new flagships are undoubtedly the hottest Android handsets available in the market right now and customers have given a very positive response to the new products. Seems like the company has a true winner on its hands.

Samsung sets up world’s largest LED baseball scoreboard in Wyverns Munhak stadium

Samsung has built the world’s largest LED baseball scoreboard at the SK Wyverns Munhak Baseball Stadium in Incheon Korea. The scoreboard consists of 16,320 LED modules in 96 cabinets. The company took three months to set up this 64 meter-wide, 18 meter-tall scoreboard. Using technologies that have cemented Samsung’s position in the smart signage market, the company made this massive display IP67 water and dust resistant, and it can also withstand extreme temperatures from -40℃ to 55℃. This means that even if the play is delayed due to the weather, the screen will continue to play.

For this scoreboard, Samsung provided the total solution which includes the display, obviously, as well as the installation structure, operation systems, quality assurance and maintenance services. Not only does the scoreboard display show the score, stats, lineup and instant replays, it’s also capable of displaying messages from fans and even allow them to play games on the scoreboard between innings using the SK Wyverns Play with app.

Homescreen Saturday: Show us what you have on your home screen!

Android offers a range of customization possibilities, and it all begins right at the home screen. You have probably seen an awesome home screen setup on the internet and wondered how the user set it up. It has happened to us, and today we’re kicking off a new section on SamMobile called Homescreen Saturday.

Through Homescreen Saturday, our readers can win a spot on our homepage by letting us know what they have on their device’s home screen. How will it work? Every Monday we will open a thread on our forums where you can submit your home screen setup. The best one will be chosen each Friday and will be posted on the main SamMobile website the next day.

What do we need from you? First, a screenshot of your home screen of course. We would also like to know which launcher, theme, widgets, icons and wallpapers you have used, with the links for each of them (without the links you won’t qualify). We also want to know the device you are using, and maybe a little intro of yourself along with why your home screen is set up the way it is.

We would like to explicitly mention that you will need to state the authors of the wallpapers and/or icons. If you have taken a wallpaper from a specific app, simply leave the Play Store link for that app.

Here’s a little example:

Hi, I’m Martin from The Netherlands and I like minimal home screens on my devices (a Galaxy S7 edge at the moment).

I use Action Launcher3, and the Mars Icons pack for its great material design flavor. The widget is Form Clock, and the other widget is a free preset for the KWGT widget app. That’s it for what I have on my home screen.

What do you think of Homescreen Saturday? Do you like the home screen shown above? Let us know the comments, and look forward to the first edition of Homescreen Saturday!

Walmart offering $150 discount on the Samsung Galaxy S7

If you’re in the US and have been waiting for a better deal on the Galaxy S7, Walmart has a nice little offer running until the end of June. The retailer is giving a $150 discount on the device – buying it with an AT&T, Verizon or Sprint subscription through Walmart’s retail stores will get you $150 of credit on your monthly invoice (so it isn’t a direct discount). The same offer is applicable on the Galaxy S6, though the S7 would no doubt be a better purchase for most.

For anyone needing a refresh, the Galaxy S7 comes with a 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display, a quad-core Snapdragon 820, 4GB of RAM, a 12-megapixel DuaPixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 3,000 mAh battery. It also has fingerprint and heart rate sensors, 32GB of expandable internal storage, and fast wireless charging support. You get Android 6.0 out of the box, and the phone has IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.
