Gear S2 just might work with the iPhone after all

Samsung’s latest smartwatch, the Gear S2, does work with Android devices even though it’s powered by Tizen. It works with non-Samsung Android smartphones too so customers aren’t really limited to a list of compatible smartphones but surely many of the company’s fans might have thought that the company won’t give the same treatment to the iPhone. Turns out it just might.

A spokesperson for the company apparently confirmed to Digital Spy that Samsung is looking to follow in Android Wear’s footsteps and add support for the iPhone to the Gear S2, Android Wear recently added support for Apple’s smartphone. “We are looking at possibilities to open it up to iOS,” the spokesperson said. If this does happen it would be the first time that a Samsung smartwatch gets support for the iPhone, it would also mean that the Apple Watch gets more competition on its home turf, since it already has to compete against Android Wear smartwatches now. The spokesperson didn’t provide a timeframe for this so we might have to wait for a while before Samsung decides to move on this.

64GB Galaxy S6 edge+ coming to Europe in a few weeks

Folks in Europe might be well aware now that Samsung won’t be releasing the Galaxy Note 5 officially in their corner of the world at least until next year, they’ll have to make do with the Galaxy S6 edge+ which was unveiled alongside the new Note last month. Customers who would rather pay extra to get more storage are likely waiting on the 64GB model, we have some good news for them, 64GB models of the Galaxy S6 edge+ are coming to Europe in the next few weeks. They’re already available in some European shops in Germany and The Netherlands.

The bigger storage option costs slightly more than the 32GB base model but paying more is the only way that users can get more storage on the Galaxy S6 edge+, like the Galaxy Note 5 it doesn’t have support for microSD cards so there’s no chance of external expansion. The only other way that users have is to rely on cloud storage services but that’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

Samsung faces tough competition from local manufacturers in Indonesia

Indonesia is regarded as a lucrative emerging market with burgeoning demand for low-end and mid-range smartphones, the market is very competitive with local Indonesian manufacturers holding a big chunk of the pie. Pantech has a grip on this market as well and so does Samsung but the Korean company is reportedly coming under a lot of pressure from the local manufacturers.

Latest data from Counterpoint Research shows that three local manufacturers, Evercoss, Advan and Smartfren, are now ranked among the top 5 smartphone vendors in the country during the second quarter of this year. Their combined market share in 36 percent. Even though Samsung retains its top position in the market its share has declined from 33 percent to 24 percent due to weaker performance. Counterpoint says that the company’s sluggish sales in the Indonesian market are due to weak performance of its low-end and mid-range smartphones since those customers are opting for devices from local manufacturers in great numbers.

The Samsung Gear S2 will work with these non-Samsung, Android smartphones

Samsung has announced the Gear S2 will be compatible with non-Samsung, Android smartphones running Android 4.4 KitKat and better with at least 1.5GB of RAM, but this claim is followed with the question, “Which smartphones can pair with the Gear S2?” Fortunately, Samsung’s published a list of devices, along with compatibility test markets for each.

Of the list, some of the well-known smartphones that’ll become compatible are the HTC One (original) as well as its One M8 and One M9, LG’s G Flex, Nexus 5 (2013), and G4, Sony’s Xperia Z2 and Z3, as well as Motorola’s Droid Turbo, Droid Maxx, Droid Mini, Moto X, and Nexus 6. Some Asus, Xiaomi, and Huawei handsets like the P8 and Ascend Mate 7 are also compatible.

We don’t know if the list of compatible handsets is exhaustive at this point, but Samsung’s own presentation says that “supported devices vary depending on your region, operator, and device brand.” Take a look at the source link below and let us know whether or not you’d purchase the Gear S2 if it is compatible with your handset.
