Samsung held an Unpacked event last night and live-streamed it on YouTube and its websites. If you wanted to watch the event live but missed out on it, you can still watch the full video replay. Samsung has published the complete video of the Unpacked 2021 Part 2 event on its YouTube channel.
Up until today’s Galaxy Unpacked event, the Bespoke brand was associated mainly with Samsung’s customizable high-end refrigerators. This changed today with the release of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition, which is the company’s first mobile device to adhere to the Bespoke design philosophy. It’s all about custom panels, in case you didn’t know.
So far, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is the only mobile device from Samsung to carry the Bespoke Edition label. However, the company confirmed its plans to use the Bespoke brand more extensively across its mobile range in the future, and it has already taken a few extra steps to towards this goal.
Galaxy Watch 4 Design Studio becomes Bespoke Studio
As some of you know, the Galaxy Watch 4 series had one of the best launches in the USA because customers can customize various aspects of the exterior design through the so-called Design Studio. It’s an online customization tool that lets you choose the style and color of your watch and wrist strap, and if you didn’t know it existed, it’s likely because it isn’t available in your market.
In tune with today’s Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung has quietly renamed the online Design Studio for the Galaxy Watch 4 series. It’s now called “Bespoke Studio,” but it has the same functionality as before. There are no new watch bands or colors, but more could be added later.
This rename signals Samsung’s commitment to the Bespoke brand and the idea of giving customers a way to personalize their devices in greater detail. Future Samsung smartwatches may offer dozens of new customization options through the Bespoke platform, but we’ll have to wait and see.
There was always a reason to get excited when Samsung announced a new Unpacked event. These events became synonymous with new product launches. The company would unveil a brand new device that fans had been looking forward to for weeks.
The Unpacked events were always special. Before COVID, Samsung gathered company executives, media, partners and fans from across the globe to attend its lavish Unpacked events held in San Francisco and New York. Since 2020, all Unpacked events have been an entirely online affair but at least they kept true to their DNA.
When Samsung confirmed its surprise Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 event for October 20 the fans immediately assumed that we were getting a brand new device. Previous rumors had suggested that the Galaxy S21 FE would finally be unveiled in October.
That was the only Unpacked-worthy device Samsung had left for 2021. Its new foldables got their own Unpacked event in August. The Galaxy S21 series came out in January. There won’t be a new Galaxy Note series and the Galaxy S22 lineup isn’t due until 2022.
Last year, the company conducted its “Galaxy Unpacked for Every Fan” event on September 23 to launch the Galaxy S20 FE. It only seemed plausible that the handset’s successor would also get its own separate event branded as such.
Even though the Galaxy A handsets are some of the best Samsung phones in any given year, the company has never given them an Unpacked launch. These events have been reserved for high-end devices. So the logical conclusion that many reached was that Samsung will finally unveil the Galaxy S21 FE.
Our readers might remember that we exclusively reported before the October 20 Unpacked was even announced that the Galaxy S21 FE won’t be launched in 2021. From what we hear, Samsung is actually planning on launching the device in January next year.
The event today had nothing to do with brand new devices. Samsung leveraged the equity that the Unpacked event had to announce the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition. It’s not a “new” device by any stretch of the imagination. Everything is exactly the same as the regular Galaxy Z Flip 3.
The Bespoke Edition only lets customers choose a personalized color option from a diverse palette. Devices unveiled at Samsung’s Unpacked events are always widely made available across the globe. The sad part is that even though this Unpacked event was beamed to a global audience, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition will only be available in barely half a dozen countries.
We do recognize the bold step that Samsung has taken with the Bespoke Edition. An initiative like this hasn’t been taken before by any phone maker. Samsung is going far beyond allowing customers to choose custom colors once. It’s even allowing Bespoke Edition customers to change the color of their device whenever they want.
It’s a testament to the company’s design and supply chain capabilities. Providing such customization at scale is no easy task. As customers prefer more personalization, Samsung is stepping up to meet their expectations.
We don’t find fault with the launch of a Bespoke Edition. On the contrary, it’s one of the best customer-centric steps Samsung has ever taken. Hopefully, the company will expand its Bespoke Edition to cover more devices. It’s only that this wasn’t that big of an announcement to warrant an Unpacked event.
Samsung also announced a collaboration with French Japanese fashion house Maison Kitsuné for the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Buds 2. Again, it’s a purely cosmetic change that won’t matter much to those who have already bought these devices. Yet again, these wearables decked out in Maison Kitsuné designs won’t be available everywhere.
So it begs the question, why did Samsung feel the need to call this an Unpacked event? It feels like the company just didn’t want to be left out. Apple and Google had events this week to launch entirely new products.
Maybe Samsung did this event just for the heck of it so that its rivals didn’t hog all the spotlight. It knew that calling the event Unpacked would get it the kind of coverage its main events always get. So it did that but ended up ruining cheapening the Unpacked brand.
Expectations for future Unpacked events have been lowered by Samsung itself through this stunt. One can only hope that the company doesn’t continue to do this every time it has a minor cosmetic change to announce for its flagship phones. It’s going to be a real shame seeing the Unpacked event being reduced to a marketing stunt.
The Bespoke Edition is based on the 256GB Galaxy Z Flip 3. It doesn’t have any hardware changes, but the main selling point is that it’s available in one of 49 color combinations. It’s built on order, and because of this, it costs a little bit extra.
It’s also not available everywhere the standard Galaxy Z Flip 3 is. Specifically, Samsung has released the Bespoke Edition only in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, South Korea, the UK, and the USA. Prices vary slightly by country, but the general rule is that the Bespoke Edition is a bit more expensive than the standard model.
The device can be customized at Samsung’s online shop when placing an order. And through the Bespoke Upgrade Care service, customers can replace their Galaxy Z Flip 3 panels after purchasing the device, for an additional fee. The frame is available in two colors, black or silver, but isn’t swappable.
At the moment, Samsung doesn’t seem to have any plans for releasing the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition to other countries aside from the seven mentioned above. This could change at a later date, but even so, it probably won’t happen overnight. We’ll keep you posted.
Samsung has announced the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition at its Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 event today. The company is allowing customers to choose from up to 49 color combinations to achieve a truly personalized look for their foldable device.
Samsung realizes that customers’ tastes tend to change over time. So it’s giving them an option to change the color panels on their Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition at any time in the future.
Change your Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition colors whenever you want
This service is called Bespoke Upgrade Care. Offered exclusively for Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition owners, they can change the color of their device whenever they want. It’s obviously not going to be free. Samsung will charge a fee for the service.
Customers will be able to register on Samsung.com to replace the color panels on their device. This way, they can always refresh the look of their Galaxy Z Flip 3. Samsung hasn’t revealed what the feel for the color panel replacement is going to be. The fee will obviously vary by country.
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition is being made available in very limited markets at launch. Customers in the United Kingdom, United States, South Korea, Germany, Canada, France and Australia will be able to order one starting today.
Samsung has said that it’s going to eventually make the Bespoke Edition available in more markets. Other Samsung flagships may also get their own Bespoke Edition down the line.
Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition today at Galaxy Unpacked 2. Although the event was arguably not as exciting as the usual Unpacked unveiling, it seems to signal an important change for future Samsung products. Namely, it appears that Samsung intends to use the Bespoke brand more extensively moving forward.
Starting with the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition, Samsung says it’s giving customers more opportunities to create their own designs for mobile devices. “Starting with” is the keyword here, as the company is telling us that it’s “committed” to releasing more Bespoke Edition devices in the future.
Aside from making the Galaxy Z Flip 3 a lot more customizable with a total of 49 new color combinations, the company is also renaming its online Galaxy Watch design studio to “Bespoke Studio.” In the process, it hasn’t added any new colors to the personalization tool for Galaxy Watches, but by renaming it, Samsung is obviously pushing the Bespoke brand more to the forefront.
Samsung wants to go all-in with Bespoke
The company hasn’t revealed any concrete plans for future Bespoke Edition models but did say that it chose the Galaxy Z Flip 3 as the launchpad for this new design platform because it already is a fashion statement. But according to Samsung, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition represents only the beginning, and we should be seeing the customization platform coming to more devices next year.
For now, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition is available only in seven countries, and Samsung has yet to reveal any launch plans for more markets.
Samsung is taking customization to another level on the Galaxy Watch 4 series. The company has started rolling out a new software update to introduce some new features and exciting watch faces. The new and improved watch faces allow you to customize the look of your Galaxy Watch 4 to match your style and show relevant data.
The new software also allows you to adjust the sensitivity of the Fall Detection feature. Samsung has also added new gestures to make it easier to use the new smartwatches. The software update has already been released in South Korea, and it will reach more markets soon.
Four new watch faces, improvements to existing ones
The new software update brings four new watch faces to the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic: Basic Dashboard, Info Brick, Live Wallpaper, and Weather Center. Basic Dashboard shows the time and four other complications (information ranging from date and time to steps and weather). The Info Brick watch face can be customized to display various health stats and goal completion progress. The Live Wallpaper watch face, as its name suggests, displays live wallpapers inspired by your smartphone. Weather Center displays in-depth weather information and matching background animation.
You can customize the colors and look of all the new watch faces on the Galaxy Watch 4 series. Samsung has also updated some existing watch faces. The My Photo+ watch face now shows a moving GIF rather than just a static image. You can add up to four complications on the Animals watch face so that it is more informative while looking great.
The company has also added more playful animations to the Steps Challenge watch face. An animated bear will appear in different attires depending on how far away you are from meeting your steps and workout goals.
New gesture controls, Fall Detection improvements
Samsung says that it has added new hand gestures. Galaxy Watch 4 users can now set a new hand motion to open a pre-selected app or a frequently-used feature. With a simple ‘Knock, Knock’ motion with your wrist, you can open any app, a workout, create a reminder, or turn on a light.
The Galaxy Watch 4 series already has the Fall Detection feature, similar to the Galaxy Watch Active 2 and the Galaxy Watch 3. But with the new software, you can adjust the sensitivity of fall detection so that the watch can detect if you’ve fallen while standing still. It can also send out an SOS notification to four pre-selected contacts.
Samsung is also offering a 60-day Strava subscription to Galaxy Watch 4 series owners for free (limited to new Strava users or those who haven’t used the service in the last six months). This offer is also applicable to the Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Watch Active 2, and the Galaxy Watch 3.
Samsung’s second Unpacked event for H2 went live today, and instead of a brand-new device, the company unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition, which is essentially the same foldable phone as before, except it can be personalized with new color options and combinations.
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition is available starting today with 256GB of built-in storage. The hardware is unchanged, but the Bespoke Edition costs a little bit extra. While the regular Galaxy Z Flip 3 with 256GB of storage launched for $1,049 in the USA, the Bespoke Edition is now available for an additional $50.
In Germany, the new foldable model is available for €1,149 (instead of €1,049), whereas in France, it’s available for €1,159. UK customers can buy it for £1,049 (up from £999). In Canada the phone costs CA$1,399 as opposed to CA$1,259.
Upon ordering the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition, customers can choose from two color options for the frame and five colors for the front and back panels, the latter of which can be mixed or matched.
In essence, there are 49 new color combinations available for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition, and that’s a whole lot more than what we usually get from regular smartphones.
With that in mind, it wouldn’t be wise or practical for Samsung to produce all 49 color combinations in large batches. It would be impossible to gauge which color combinations will gain more traction, and because of this, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition requires careful planning and a slightly higher price tag.
The $50 extra applies to the US market, but the price gap can differ in other regions where Samsung plans to release the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition today. If you’re wondering, the device is limited to seven countries, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Korea, the UK, and the USA.
As you’ve probably already heard, Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition earlier today at Galaxy Unpacked 2. Luckily, we got to spend some one-on-one time with this “new” device, and we prepared a hands-on video for our readers and SamMobile TV subscribers on YouTube.
As mentioned before, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition comes with 256GB of built-in storage, and as far as other hardware components are concerned, it’s identical to the standard model. However, the Bespoke Edition can be ordered in one of 49 color combinations, and that’s something we can’t say about any other smartphone on the market right now — Galaxy or otherwise.
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 never looked as good as it does now
We would’ve loved to showcase all 49 color combinations, though, in reality, it probably would’ve been a logistics nightmare for Samsung to showcase all of them in physical form. Samsung did the next best thing and allowed us to spend a bit of time with four color combinations for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition, and we’ve featured them all in our hands-on video below.
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition will be available in seven markets, and customers will be able to see their color combinations in 360-degrees on Samsung’s website when customizing the device. The online customization tool allows customers to choose from two color options for the frame and five colors for the front and back panels. No matter the color combination, the Bespoke Edition comes with a unique wallpaper that suits the exterior design.
Check our hands-on video below for a closer look at the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition, join us on our social media channels, and stay tuned for more.
Today at Galaxy Unpacked 2, Samsung announced a new collaboration with another fashion brand and unveiled two limited-edition wearable devices: the Galaxy Watch 4 Maison Kitsuné Edition and the Galaxy Buds 2 Maison Kitsuné Edition.
The Galaxy Watch 4 Maison Kitsuné Edition differentiates itself from the standard smartwatch model through two unique wrist strap designs. One is available in Moonrock Beige and has a fox-shaped cutout, and the other has a Stardust Gray finish with prominent Maison Kitsuné lettering. They’re both accompanied by unique wallpapers to match the brand.
Fashion meets sound in a new Galaxy Buds 2 special edition
As for the Galaxy Buds 2 Maison Kitsuné Edition, the earbuds are available in the same Moonrock Beige and Stardust Gray color options as the watch, and they feature the Kitsuné fox logo on both the charging case and the earbuds themselves.
Interestingly enough, customers who order either one of these special edition wearables will have exclusive access to a music playlist curated by the brand’s music label “Kitsuné Musique.” The playlist will be available via the lock screen of an exclusive Maison Kitsuné Galaxy smartphone theme which can be installed by tagging the NFC card that ships along with the wearables.
The Maison Kitsuné Edition smartwatch and earbuds can be ordered starting today, October 20. Unlike the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition, the special edition Maison Kitsuné wearables were created in limited quantities.
After Samsung generated some hype on social media, Galaxy Unpacked 2 went live moments ago, and fans are finally getting to see what the new event is all about. In short, it mostly revolves around the “new” Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition, or more appropriately, the company’s new design studio for the fashionable foldable phone.
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition is technically the same phone as the standard 256GB model, except it comes in a new range of colors that customers can mix and match upon placing an order. It comes with a matte black or glossy silver frame and a combination of black, blue, pink, yellow, and white color options for the front and back panels.
When buying the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition, customers will have a total of 49 possible color combinations from which to choose.
Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition is available only in limited markets
The Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition isn’t a limited production device per se. It’s not manufactured in limited quantities with a deadline, but it’s not available everywhere, either, so there is a bit of exclusivity to it.
The Bespoke Edition is available starting today — October 20 — in seven countries, namely Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Korea, the UK, and the US.
The new Bespoke Studio is accessible online at Samsung.com in these countries and offers 360-degree previews for your color combinations. Customers can also download images of their configuration and share them on social media.
Although the internal hardware is the same as before, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition ships with a special wallpaper to match the phone’s new exterior design. Other than that, you get the same fantastic 6.7-inch foldable display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, a 1.9-inch colorful Cover Display, and the Snapdragon 888 5G chipset under the hood. Check our review of the standard edition below for more details on the general user experience.
The third One UI 4.0 beta update is live in South Korea, and it’s bringing a handful of improvements and additions over the previous beta build. Various issues concerning Bixby, Samsung Keyboard, and the overall UI have been addressed, and the Weather app got a complete redesign.
A couple of months ago, Samsung said it plans to remove ads from first-party apps, and sure enough, they appear to be gone from the Weather app in One UI 4.0 beta. In addition, the Weather app got a complete redesign with new graphics and animations.
More eye candy in third One UI 4.0 beta
The new Android 12-based One UI 4 beta build is rolling out for the Galaxy S21 series in South Korea, but it has yet to reach other markets where the beta program is open. It should soon, though, and we’ll take a more in-depth look once we get our hands on the latest build.
So far, the One UI 4.0 beta program seems to be going according to plan. Samsung hinted at the third beta build going live in Korea this week, and it did. This could be a sign of things to come. At this rate, Samsung will likely make good on its promise and release the public One UI 4.0 firmware update before the end of the year.
Until then, beta testers can keep busy with the third beta firmware. We’ll do the same once we get our hands on the latest build, so stay tuned for that, and feel free to check our previous One UI 4.0 beta videos below.
