Check out these new Galaxy Tab S6 wallpapers

We managed to acquire some of the official Galaxy Tab S6 wallpapers ahead of release. The new tablet is expected to launch later this week, at least in some countries including the United States where Amazon is already taking pre-orders. Until then, you can check these wallpapers and download them at your leisure.

The wallpapers have a resolution of 2560 by 2560 pixels each, meaning they should fit the screens of the Galaxy Tab S4 and Galaxy S5e perfectly. If you own either one of these tablets then you can give them a bit of Galaxy Tab S6 flavor with these images. All of these aforementioned tablet models share the same display resolution of 1600 by 2500 pixels and 16:10 aspect ratio.

As far as the design is concerned, these wallpapers continue to follow Samsung’s current trend so they aren’t entirely unexpected. Six of the images feature iridescent soap-like bubbles, while the other three images are rather plain gradients with some diagonal stripes running across.

You can check the gallery below for a closer look, and you can grab all the wallpapers in a ZIP package by clicking this link. Join the conversation in the comment section and let us know what you think of these wallpaper designs. Are you going to upgrade to the new Tab S6 once it hits the shelves, or is downloading the wallpapers as far as you will go with the new model?

Here’s where and when to watch the Galaxy Note 10 launch event

The clock is ticking and the Galaxy Note 10 official announcement is just around the corner. But unlike the Galaxy Tab S6 and Watch Active 2 – both of which have been announced online on Monday – the Galaxy Note 10 debut will be marked by a fully-fledged Unpacked launch event set to take place in New York City.

Samsung will lift the veil off the Galaxy Note 10 lineup tomorrow, August 7, at 4 PM EDT (9 PM CET). Readers who may want to check the official livestream can do so from Samsung’s website, or by checking the company’s YouTube live feed. We’ll add the link to the YouTube live feed once we’ll get closer to the actual unveiling so you shouldn’t miss a thing. Likewise, we’ll attend the event so we’ll be ready to share photos and more information with you shortly after the event kicks off, so stay tuned.

Galaxy Note 10 quick recap

The Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ are going to introduce a new design with even thinner bezels. The S Pen should have been improved with new features, and both phones should be powered by a new Exynos 9825 chipset, at least where they won’t rely on Qualcomm’s solution.

It’s not all gravy and some features have been abandoned by the latest Note series. Most notably, the new phablet doesn’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack, and the regular Note 10 might miss out on a microSD slot as well. 256GB of storage is expected on the base model, thankfully, which should ease some of the pain of having no expandable storage.

Do you have any particular expectations from Samsung and the Galaxy Note 10 launch event? Are you excited or reserved, and do you think the new phablet can even surprise you at this point, given the flood of leaks preceding it? Let us know below.

Galaxy Watch Active 2 infographic highlights new or improved features

Some of the new and updated features defining the Galaxy Watch Active 2 have been featured in a new Samsung infographic called “A smartwatch with a purpose.” From the new digital Touch Bezel to the addition of the Camera Controller functionality, Samsung’s latest smartwatch has quite a few attractive features that shouldn’t be overlooked if you’re in the market for a new wearable.

One of the least obvious but most impactful features debuting with the Galaxy Watch Active 2 is the aforementioned Touch Bezel. Samsung abandoned the physical bezel concept with the Watch Active model released earlier this year but hasn’t come up with a proper replacement feature up until now. The digital bezel on the Watch Active 2 helps users navigate the UI just like a physical bezel would, except it’s not, for better or for worse. We expect to talk more about the bezel situation in our hands-on preview.

Along with a new design come new fitness-oriented features and better connectivity

In the new infographic, Samsung is quick to highlight the improved fitness tracking capabilities of the Galaxy Watch Active 2 but omits the fact that the new wearable has an ECG sensor. This is because the ECG functionality is not yet enabled and should become available once approved by the FDA. Other than that, the Active 2 has a running coach function, better sleep tracking, and offers breathing instructions for stress management, among other goodies.

As for improved connectivity, Samsung highlights the Galaxy Watch Active 2’s ability to act as a remote camera controller, or translate voice and text for more than 16 languages in real time. There’s also integration with Spotify out of the box, and although this goes by unmentioned in the infographic, the new smartwatch also allows users to watch YouTube videos directly from their wrist. Check out the image below for more details, and let us know your thoughts on Samsung’s latest wearable in the comment section.

Galaxy J4 Core is the first to secure August 2019 security patch

Samsung only recently published the details on the August 2019 security patch and the Galaxy J4 Core is seemingly the company’s first smartphone to receive it. A new software update featuring the latest security patch is rolling out for the Galaxy J4 Core bearing the model number SM-J410G; however, the changelog is currently missing so we’re unsure if any new features have been included with the update.

As per Samsung’s earlier announcement, the August 2019 security patch covers seven critical vulnerabilities, two moderate-risk vulnerabilities, and numerous high-risk vulnerabilities found within Android OS. The patch also covers 17 vulnerabilities affecting Samsung’s own proprietary software. You can read more about the issues here.

The Galaxy J4 Core is one of Samsung’s devices planned to receive quarterly security updates so it won’t receive a new security patch for another few good months. However, devices like the Galaxy S8, S9, Note 8, and Note 9 that follow the quarterly update schedule should soon start receiving their own updates carrying the August 2019 security patch.

If you own an eligible Galaxy J4 Core then you should be getting the update notification soon, if you haven’t already. Alternatively, you can trigger the update from the phone’s Settings app, or you can download the latest firmware for the SM-J410G from our firmware database and install it manually using your PC. Have you noticed any new features and/or improvements with this latest release? Let us know in the comment section.

  • Dimensions: 160.6 x 76.1 x 7.9mm
  • Display: 6.0" (152.4mm) TFT
  • CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon 425

How to share Wi-Fi networks using QR code on One UI (Android Pie)

Did you know that you can share your Wi-Fi network with friends and family by letting them scan a QR code on your Galaxy smartphone or tablet? This is a feature that Samsung introduced with Android Pie/One UI, and it’s extremely useful: If your phone or tablet is connected to your home or office’s Wi-Fi network, a friend or family can connect to it as well by simply scanning a QR code displayed on your device.

No, this feature doesn’t let you keep your Wi-Fi password a secret. It only makes the process of connecting to a secured Wi-Fi network a little more convenient by removing the need to manually enter the password. Whoever scans the QR code on your device will be able to see what the password is after the QR code has been detected, at least on Galaxy devices.

And if whoever you’re sharing the network with has a recent Galaxy smartphone (or any flagship Galaxy phone from the last two years) running Android Pie, they only need to point their phone’s camera at the QR code to scan it thanks to the QR scanner feature Samsung has introduced to its devices with software updates. Third-party QR code apps work just as well, of course, and you can also share your Wi-Fi network through the QR code with your iPhone-owing friends.

Here’s how you can find the QR code for the Wi-Fi network for sharing it with others:

Step 1: First, you need to ensure your phone or tablet is connected to the Wi-Fi network that you want to share.

Step 2: Now, open your device’s Settings app, tap Connections, then tap Wi-Fi to see a list of your Wi-Fi networks.

Step 3: Here, tap on the network that your device is connected to and you will see the QR code show up on-screen. Just ask the other person to scan this code in order to connect to the same Wi-Fi network.

More online exclusive TVs

Samsung’s continued push to counter Chinese rivals in India is seeing it launch more and more online-exclusive products. The company already has an online-exclusive UHD TV lineup, the Super 6 Series, in the country and is now expanding the portfolio with the addition of The Frame and the Smart 7-in-1 TV.

The Frame is a lifestyle TV that transforms into a photo frame when not in use. It can display thousands of artworks from around the world. The Smart 7-in-1 TV, on the other hand, comes equipped with several unique features such as Personal Computer, Home Cloud, Live Cast, and more. These TVs also come pre-loaded with video-on-demand apps such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

Samsung monthly updates: August security patch detailed

Samsung has published details on the August 2019 security patch over on its mobile security website as it prepares to start pushing out the latest security updates to its devices over the next few weeks. The August patch brings fixes for seven critical vulnerabilities in the Android OS; plenty of high-risk vulnerabilities have been patched as well, in addition to two moderate-risk vulnerabilities.

The also fixes 17 vulnerabilities that affect only Samsung Galaxy devices. These include a vulnerability in the Gallery app that can result in the acceptance of the terms and conditions for sharing location information without needing to authenticate and unlock the device; another vulnerability allows one to access image information for images stored in Secure Folder by exploiting the Motion Photo feature. As usual, a few vulnerabilities have not been disclosed to prevent exploitation before the new security patch has been installed on a device.

We should see updates bundling the August security patch coming out for various devices in the coming weeks, although we could see a few delays owing to the impending Galaxy Note 10 launch. As always, you can trust us to let you know as soon as the August security update starts rolling out, so be sure to keep checking back from time to time.
