Galaxy On7 (2016) passes through the FCC

We’ve known for a little while now that Samsung is planning to release a revamped variant of the Galaxy On7 called the Galaxy On7 (2016). We first heard of the handset three months ago when it was spotted in an Indian import database. One month later, the device surfaced in the GFXBench online directory shedding some light on its internals. Then, just two weeks ago, the unit was run through Geekbench bearing the model number SM-G610F.

Earlier today, however, an unannounced Galaxy-branded smartphone passed through the United States of America’s official certification authority, the FCC. Unfortunately, the documentation provided in the listing doesn’t reveal much about the handset, other than that it carries the model number SM-G610F, and will ship with a plethora of different connectivity options, including WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS and LTE compatibility for bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20 and 40 — so we have good reason to believe that we are, in fact, looking at the Galaxy On7 (2016).

Recent leaks, rumors and speculation point towards the Galaxy On7 (2016) packing a 5.5-inch Full HD display, a 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 CPU, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable internal storage, a 13MP rear-facing camera, an 8MP selfie shooter, a fingerprint scanner and a 3,000mAh battery that should last for around 80-hours on standby. The device is also believed to ship running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow skinned with the latest build of Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface out of the box.

Samsung won’t update the first-generation Galaxy Tab S to Marshmallow

If you’re the proud owner of an 8.4- or 10.5-inch first-generation Galaxy Tab S, you may want to listen up as we have some rather unfortunate news for you. Yesterday evening, Samsung Mobile Netherlands took to its official Facebook page to reveal that the firm will not distribute the long-awaited Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to either model of the slate in Europe.

Unfortunately, it’s currently unclear why the Galaxy Tab S won’t be receiving the upgrade. After all, it was recently spotted in a benchmark test running Android 6.0.1, and a reliable industry insider even confirmed exclusively to us that the firmware was scheduled to start rolling out in the third quarter. All we can do is speculate that the manufacturer ran into some serious issues while adapting the software for use on the device.

Samsung led the Indian smartphone market during Q2 2016, Apple nowhere to be found

Samsung has done it again. The South Korean smartphone giant, which was once believed to be losing steam, has once again topped the Indian market. The company’s global rival Apple was nowhere to be found in the list of top vendors as per the latest data.

According to a new report by market research firm IDC, Samsung was the top smartphone vendor in India during Q2 2016 with a market share of 25.1 percent. The local smartphone vendor Micromax managed to grab a market share of 12.9 percent, while the Lenovo Group (which includes Motorola) stood third in the list with a market share of 7.7 percent.

After Samsung’s market share fell to just 20 percent two years ago, the company has bounced back by launching best-selling products like the Galaxy J5 and the Galaxy J7 in the affordable smartphone segment. The company also launched dual-SIM variants of all its high-end smartphones since last year due to market demand. On the other hand, sales of iPhones have further reduced due to comical price tags.

Samsung will shut down Milk Music in the US on September 22

Following its closure in Australia, Samsung has today announced that it will shut down its Milk Music streaming service in the United States on Thursday, September 22. Unfortunately, the South Korean company failed to provide an explanation for its decision to axe the platform in the region. It did reveal, however, that it’s working on a new project that’s focused on “seamlessly integrating the best music services available today into [its] family of Galaxy devices.”

We have made the strategic decision to invest in a partner model focused on seamlessly integrating the best music services available today into our family of Galaxy devices. We believe that working with partners will accelerate innovation, enhance device sales and provide amazing new experiences for our customers — Samsung.

Much to our disappointment, Samsung failed to provide any specific details for its upcoming service. Although, it’s possible that the firm is keeping the upcoming platform under strict lock and key as it’s planning to take the wraps off it at IFA next month. As always, be sure to keep your browser pointed to SamMobile, and follow us over on Facebook and Twitter, as we’ll let you know the latest information on the matter as soon as we have it.
