Galaxy Note 10 to come with noise cancelling USB Type-C earphones?

The Galaxy Note 10 probably isn’t going to have a 3.5 mm headphone jack, which is going to put off a lot of prospective customers. The USB Type-C port on the Note 10 and Note 10+ will double as the headphone jack, and according to leakster Roland Quandt, Samsung is working on new noise cancelling USB Type-C earphones for its next flagship. However, Quandt does not say if the earphones will be AKG-tuned and whether they will be included with the Galaxy Note 10 or sold separately.

Samsung could certainly win some points with Note 10 buyers by bundling such earphones with the device. The company’s wireless Galaxy Buds feature both AKG-tuned sound and noise cancellation, but they cost over $100 and, being wireless earbuds, don’t offer the kind of sound quality cheaper wired earphones could provide. Samsung already provides excellent AKG-tuned earphones with its flagship phones, and adding noise cancellation to those earphones would be a neat little upgrade.

It would certainly (somewhat) make up for the absence of a 3.5 mm headphone jack and be a nice bonus considering the high prices the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ are expected to command. And with noise cancelling earphones in the box, Samsung would also be able to cut down on the expenses it would incur if it gave away as many free Galaxy Buds with Note 10 pre-orders as it did with Galaxy S10 pre-orders earlier this year.

Galaxy Note 10+ press renders confirm key details about larger model

We had confirmed monthly ago that there will actually be two models of the Galaxy Note 10. Press renders of the 6.3-inch Galaxy Note 10 were leaked earlier today. Now, we get to see the press renders of the 6.75-inch Galaxy Note 10+.

A previous leak which showed this device’s boot screen revealed that it will be called the Galaxy Note 10+. The differences between these two models have been talked about a few times before. The larger display aside, these leaked renders do confirm some other key details as well.

Galaxy Note 10+ press renders leaked

Even though the Galaxy S10+ had a dual front camera, that luxury hasn’t been extended to the Galaxy Note 10+. It will have a single front camera with a centered hole. We have already talked about the fact that it doesn’t really make that much of a difference to have a dual camera upfront so Galaxy Note 10+ owners won’t be missing out.

You’ll notice the ToF sensor at the back alongside the vertically-positioned triple camera system. It will open the door to a wide variety of features for the device. Much like the Galaxy Note 10, though, the Galaxy Note 10+ isn’t going to have a heart rate sensor at the back.

Everything else is the same, design wise. Both models are ditching the dedicated key for the Bixby smart assistant which some will argue is a good thing. The silver color option with the funky gradient will be offered with the Galaxy Note 10+ as well. There will obviously be other color options. We may get to see press renders of them as well in the coming days.

The cat is more or less out of the bag now. Some evident refinements have been made to an otherwise solid design. The new silver color is very trendy and might interest a lot of customers.

Samsung is obviously not going to confirm anything about the Galaxy Note 10/10+ before the official launch event. The next flagship phablet will be unveiled on August 7 in NYC. What would you rather go for, the Galaxy Note 10 or the Galaxy Note 10+?

Galaxy A50 gets new update complete with July 2019 security patch

A new update has been released for the Galaxy A50; particularly for the model number SM-A505G. We don’t have a changelog as yet, so it might be that the update simply introduces the July 2019 security patch without any other modifications to the user experience. The firmware version is getting bumped to A505GUBS3ASF5.

You can check this detailed report to find out what vulnerabilities have been found and fixed with the July 2019 security patch. It’s likely that the changelog will mention the usual overall stability improvements if nothing more. We wouldn’t expect any new developments in the camera department, as the Galaxy A50’s camera has already seen some improvements with the inclusion of Night mode and Super Slow-mo alongside the June 2019 security patch last month.

It’s worth noting that, earlier this week, the Galaxy A30  was also updated with similar firmware paired with the July 2019 security patch. The changelog mentioned some tweaks to the moisture detection algorithm, so keep an eye out in case this will apply to the Galaxy A50’s latest firmware as well.

The Galaxy A50 July 2019 security patch and the associated update are available in a number of markets including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Puerto Rico and more. As usual, the update is being rolled out gradually and should be preceded by a notification on the phone. Users can trigger the update manually by heading to the Settings app and then tapping Software update » Download and install. Or they can download the firmware from our database and flash it manually using a computer.

Leaked Galaxy Note 10 renders offer a good look at the new flagship

It was only a matter of time before the official Galaxy Note 10 renders were leaked. That’s precisely what has happened today. A source that’s usually accurate has posted the first press renders of the Galaxy Note 10. No renders for the larger Galaxy Note 10+ have surfaced so far but it’s only a matter of time now before they arrive as well.

We are less than a month from the official unveiling of Samsung’s new flagship smartphone. The company has already confirmed that it will launch the Galaxy Note 10 on August 7 at an event in New York City.

Leaked Galaxy Note 10 renders show a funky color option

We have previously revealed that Samsung will offer two Galaxy Note 10 models. This particular one has a 6.3-inch display while the Galaxy Note 10+ will feature a 6.75-inch display. These leaked Galaxy Note 10 renders confirm much of what was already known about this device.

The centered front camera hole is hard to miss and the bezels will be smaller compared to the Galaxy Note 9. Do note that marketing images tend to show slightly more trimmed bezels compared to what you get with the actual product. It had been reported previously that the Galaxy Note 10’s camera will be vertically positioned at the back. We can see that in these renders. Do note that the Galaxy Note 10 doesn’t have a heart rate sensor at the back.

The familiar Galaxy Note design will be available in a new silver color option with a funky gradient effect and a blue S Pen. You will also note that the dedicated Bixby key is missing from the handset. That is certainly going to make quite a few people happy.

Do you like what you see? It does appear to be in line with the expectations that many have so far. You can expect additional leaks in the coming days as the Galaxy Note 10 release draws near.

New Gear S3 update disables automatic alarm sync with smartphone

A new software update has been released for the Gear S3, the first one the watch is receiving after the major One UI update that Samsung pushed out a couple of months ago. The update that’s rolling out today is available in Germany, Canada, and Israel and should expand to other countries in the next few weeks. It brings improved system reliability and disables automatic syncing of alarms between the watch and the connected phone, which will probably come as good news to many.

That’s because after the One UI update, the Gear S3 has been forcefully copying the settings for a particular alarm from the phone, overriding any changes made to the alarm on the watch. For example, if you set the watch to only vibrate for your morning alarm and set the phone to vibrate and ring for the same alarm, you’ll find the watch ringing as well when you wake up. After installing the update that’s rolling out today, that should stop being an issue and your Gear S3 should remember your alarm preferences once again.

The new update is available for both the Frontier and Classic models and should show up as a notification on your phone at some point. You can also try and download the update right away by opening the Galaxy Wearable app on your phone, selecting About Watch, followed by Update watch software, and then tapping the Update now button. Since these updates are rolled out in stages, it will take some time before the update is available for everyone.

In defense of the Galaxy Note’s S Pen: Don’t fix what’s not broken

In defense of the Galaxy Note’s S Pen: Don’t fix what’s not broken

There has been some talk recently about how the S Pen has been holding back the Galaxy Note series. The argument being made is that removing it would free up space for a larger battery, a more advanced camera system, and other improvements. That, to me at least, seems like a futile attempt to make the Galaxy Note series something that it’s not. Something it hasn’t been ever since this series was introduced.

When the first Galaxy Note was launched in 2011 many argued that it didn’t make sense to have such a big display (5.3-inch) on a smartphone. Since everyone else was in a rush to copy Apple’s no-keyboard, no-stylus approach, Samsung’s decision to include the S Pen was viewed by many as a mistake. Less than a decade later, not many will be willing to purchase a flagship phone with a display of that size, and try as you might, you won’t be able to pry the S Pen out of a Note loyalist’s fingers.

Samsung didn’t break new ground with the S Pen. There’s a long list of mobile phones that came with a stylus from companies that no longer exist, running on platforms that have long been discontinued. What made Samsung’s attempt stand apart was the execution. The large display made customers feel that perhaps the stylus could help them achieve more instead of just being a novelty. The additional features that it offers made the S Pen more than a tool meant for precise taps.

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the Galaxy Note series played an instrumental role in pushing the industry to adopt larger displays. Samsung improved the S Pen functionality with each iteration, with the biggest change coming last year when the S Pen was upgraded with Bluetooth compatibility. The S Pen can now be used as a remote for controlling presentations, taking pictures, launching apps and more.

S Pen enables plenty of practical use cases…

Contrary to what some might believe, there is considerable practical use for the S Pen. Take the screen-off memo feature, for example. Want to jot down something quickly? Just take out the S Pen and scribble the note on the screen. You don’t even have to turn on the display, let alone unlock the phone. On a recent trip to Korea, S Pen Translate proved to be a lifesaver as I could quickly translate directions in navigation apps from Korean to English. Based on my own experiences in countries where English isn’t widely used, this is a highly underrated feature. Seamless currency conversation is built into this feature as well.

Let’s not forget that the Galaxy Note series has always been meant for professionals. The S Pen can let you sign digital documents as if you were using an actual pen, make precise annotations on work documents, get a clear picture by hovering it over a complex spreadsheet, and more. There is so much that it allows you to do effortlessly that you just can’t replicate by simply tapping your finger on the display. And yes, if you love doodling in your free time, it lets you do that too.

… And drives the flexibility the Note series is known for

It doesn’t matter if everyone who purchases a Galaxy Note does everything the S Pen makes possible. What matters is the freedom and flexibility that the S Pen provides. There is nothing quite like it for a smartphone. No wonder many users who have shifted to the Galaxy Note don’t even consider purchasing a Galaxy S flagship anymore.

It is that freedom and flexibility that is the hallmark of the Galaxy Note series. It is the reason why the Galaxy Note exists in the first place. Killing the S Pen simply means killing the series. There would be no other incentive for customers to purchase this phone, and if removing the S Pen does allow for a bigger battery and other improvements, why not launch it as a “Pro” version of the Galaxy S flagship?

Samsung gets criticized, often unfairly, for its missteps. It is an undeniable fact that the Galaxy Note represents its best work. It went against the tide at a point in time when nobody thought that a phone with a stylus could survive, that customers won’t buy a phone with an “enormous” 5.3-inch display. It has proven its critics wrong year after year for almost a decade now. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having the S Pen on the Galaxy Note series, which is why there is absolutely no need to fix something that’s not broken.

Your Galaxy S10 is expensive and you would want to keep it in good shape. India’s 4G tablet market grew in Q1, and Samsung got its share

Global tablet shipments have been on a slight decline for years as smartphones became larger, and this trend might go on if the foldable form factor proves popular. Until then, Samsung continues to be one of the biggest tablet vendors in India; even as it continues to follow in Huawei’s trail. But according to a recent report citing analyst Menka Kumari, the 4G tablet market in India actually experienced 62 percent sequential growth in the first quarter of the year, despite the fact that the overall tablet market has declined by 11 percent compared to Q1 2018. As 2G is being phased out, it appears that 4G tablets are gaining a bit more traction.

Samsung and Lenovo are the market leaders for 4G tablet shipments in India. It’s unfortunate that the analysis doesn’t cover the exact shipment figures for either OEM, but it reveals that the combined shipments of tablets costing between Rs. 10,000 ($145) and Rs. 20,000 ($291) has increased by 28 percent in Q1 2019 compared to the previous quarter. Some of these shipped tablets bear the Samsung branding, but Lenovo still covers a whopping 90 percent of the 4G tablet market in India, and that’s a pretty steep hill to climb.

Samsung keeps playing the tablet game even as Galaxy Fold’s launch looms

It’s no mystery that, over the years, the tablet segment has been slowly chewed up by increasingly powerful smartphones equipped with increasingly large displays. Likewise, the tablet has been threatened by notebooks and ultrabooks equipped with touchscreens. Now, the tablet market is preparing to face a new challenge in the form of the foldable phone/tablet.

But as we look forward to the tablet’s future with uncertainty, it’s clear that Samsung hasn’t abandoned this segment. It only recently launched a new budget-friendly Galaxy Tab A 8 (2019) model, and according to our sources, the company is working on a flagship tablet as well. It’s already been approved by the Wi-Fi Alliance, and it should hit the shelves as the Galaxy Tab S6.

The Galaxy Tab A 8 (2019) might fit the market’s demands for cheap 4G tablets

It’s unclear when or if the Galaxy Tab S6 will launch in India, but the Galaxy Tab A 8 (2019) has already prematurely popped up on the official Samsung India portal in the support section. This should indicate that the budget-friendly tablet will eventually launch in India, and because it also supports 4G connectivity, it could improve Samsung’s shipment figures in the following quarters.

The big question of whether tablets will become irrelevant with the passage of time is still left unanswered, especially as the future of foldable devices is uncertain. But if you would like to share your thoughts on the relevancy of tablets with us then check out this poll and let your votes be heard.

Exclusive: Galaxy Note 10 5G to come in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB flavors

Thanks to our sources, we can confirm that Samsung will offer the Galaxy Note 10 5G with 1TB of storage, in addition to 256GB and 512GB options. The 1TB variant should also have 12GB of RAM. The 1TB model might have a ceramic back as well, but that’s only speculation as there hasn’t been any concrete information hinting at a ceramic back even for the LTE versions of the Galaxy Note 10.

For the Galaxy S10 5G, Samsung only gives customers the choice of 256GB and 512GB storage. That may have been a deliberate decision, as when the Galaxy S10 5G was announced, 5G networks hadn’t gone live for the public in any country. It also makes sense to offer a Note flagship with the maximum storage possible given the Galaxy Note lineup’s focus on power users. Let’s not forget that the Galaxy S10 5G doesn’t have a microSD slot, and if that’s the case with the Galaxy Note 10 5G as well, a 1TB variant will certainly have plenty of takers.

It goes without saying that a Galaxy Note 10 with 5G connectivity and 1TB of storage will cost a fortune, just like the Galaxy S10+’s 1TB variant (which costs a whopping €1,599 in European markets). Then again, outrageous prices for flagship smartphones should surprise no one, and while the Note 10 might miss out on something as basic as a 3.5mm headphone jack, it should offer enough features and functionality to justify the considerably lower bank balance you’ll have after purchasing the device.

[Poll] Do you even care about tablets anymore?

The tablet market has been in a constant state of decline. It’s not surprising. Smartphones have become larger and more capable in recent years, effectively eliminating the need for small tablets. Foldable smartphones will only add to that since they will double as both a smartphone and tablet, much like the Galaxy Fold does.

There’s still demand for larger tablets, though, which is why companies like Samsung continue to make them. As we have exclusively revealed, Samsung has the Galaxy Tab S6 ready to go and it will arrive in the next few weeks.

The question is, do you as a consumer care about tablets anymore? There are some specific use cases in which tablets make sense. They’re heavily relied upon in the education sector and in hospitals, for example. You will also find them on the production floor of large factories where employees use them to keep operations running smoothly. Some budget airlines even hand them out as in-flight entertainment screens in exchange for a nominal fee.

As much as the companies that make tablets claim, they’re still not a replacement for a laptop. If you want to get real work done while on the move a laptop is still your best bet. However, tablets have certainly come a long way in aiding you to be productive on the road. Or you just might be a casual user, relying on a tablet for spending your Sundays binging Netflix, reading e-books, surfing the web, etc.

So, do you care about tablets? Are you so into them that you buy Samsung’s latest flagship Galaxy Tab S every year or would you only consider buying one if it was available at a significant discount, for example? Have you written them off completely and feel that one wouldn’t really make a difference in your life? We’d love to hear your thoughts about this so vote below and let’s get a conversation started in the comments section.

Galaxy Note 9 update with July 2019 security patch rolling out

Samsung has released the July security update for the Galaxy Note 9. The update is rolling out in number of markets, including France, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, Nigeria, and Kenya and brings software version N960FXXS3CSG1 to the device. The Galaxy Note 9’s July update has arrived less than a week after the Galaxy S9 got the latest security patch, and both 2018 flagships have received it before the Galaxy S10 lineup.

At this time, we aren’t aware of what the new Galaxy Note 9 update includes other than the latest security enhancements. The previous update brought two new camera features: a dedicated Night mode and a QR code reader. Night mode hasn’t worked perfectly for all Galaxy Note 9 (and Galaxy S9) users, and Samsung has hopefully managed to fix that with the July update. As for the July 2019 security patch, it fixes ten critical vulnerabilities that were discovered in the Android OS and plugs 13 security holes that only affect Samsung’s software.

If you have a Galaxy Note 9, you can download the update over the air by opening the Settings app on your phone, navigating to Software update, and then tapping the Download and install option. Firmware for the new update are available in our firmware section and can be used to manually upgrade your Note 9 using a Windows PC. After you’ve installed the update, don’t forget to leave a comment if you discover something new or different on your device.

Galaxy A90 5G benchmarked with Snapdragon 855, 6GB RAM

A benchmark entry for the Galaxy A90 5G on Geekbench is confirming earlier rumors that the device would be powered by the Snapdragon 855 SoC. Samsung has never used a flagship chipset for a mid-range device before, but with 5G connectivity possible only on flagship chips like the Snapdragon 855 and Exynos 9820 at this time, it isn’t very surprising that the A90 5G will come with top-of-the-line silicon under the hood.

What’s slightly odd, however, is that the Galaxy A90 5G has only 6GB of RAM while the recently released Galaxy A80 comes with 8GB of RAM. It’s possible the A90 will come in both 6GB and 8GB RAM variants — just the presence of 5G connectivity would make the A90 quite the costly device, and offering options for storage and RAM would allow Samsung to keep the retail prices a bit more palatable.

After all, the A90 will also have some other impressive specs, like a 4,500 mAh battery and “exclusive tilt OS” technology, all of which are likely to put the A90 dangerously close to flagship smartphones on the price spectrum. Just what the actual pricing will be is something only time will tell. The same goes for a release date, which will probably be sometime after the Galaxy Note 10 goes official in early August.

Samsung Galaxy A90 5G has large battery, is coming to Europe

The 5G variant of Samsung’s new Galaxy A90 will pack quite an impressive battery. Furthermore, it is now clear this device will not remain limited to South Korea but will come to several European countries as well.

Galaxy A90 5G battery capacity

Recent rumors pointed to Samsung working on a revamped Galaxy A90 with 5G connectivity, at least in its home market of South Korea. So we are not at all surprised to see the certification of a Samsung battery sporting product code EB-BA908ABY. If you are versed in Samsung’s product numerology, you will know this battery belongs to a phone with model number SM-A908, which is, indeed, the alleged A90 5G.

The EB-BA908ABY certification, as spotted by GalaxyClub, comes with a handy photograph that tells us all we want to know: it has a typical capacity of 4500 mAh, and a rated capacity of 4400 mAh. This is quite a bit larger than the battery of the Galaxy A80, which was originally developed as the A90, and matches that of the Galaxy A70 and Galaxy S10 5G.

samsung galaxy a90 5g battery eb-ba908aby certification

Coming to Europe

And to be sure: the SM-A908 is indeed the Galaxy A90 5G, and it will not be limited to Samsung’s home market. As GalaxyClub points out, the Korean SM-A908N has a brother under model number SM-A908B. This year, Samsung has started using the ‘B’ designation to indicate 5G variants of international device versions. For example, the international Galaxy S10 5G is identified as the SM-G977B.

And lo and behold, the SM-A908B is being developed for a number of European countries, such as the UK, Germany, France, Scandinavia, and Italy. Though we do not expect the Galaxy A90 5G to be as cheap as some of the other devices in Samsung’s A series, it will probably be a lot more affordable than the Galaxy S10 5G, which sets European back nearly €1200.

More details

Aside from the powerful battery, the Galaxy A90 5G is expected to pack a 32MP or even a 48MP camera, a 6.7-inch display, and 45 watt charging. It probably won’t have a pop-up camera like the Galaxy A80. After all, the massive battery will leave little room for the elaborate mechanism required for such a feature. We do not know when Samsung will launch the new A90, but it might very well be part of the company’s autumn releases, sometime after the Galaxy Note 10 sees the light of day.

Galaxy Tab S6 release nears as it picks up Wi-Fi certification

The groundwork is well and truly being laid for the Galaxy Tab S6 release. We exclusively leaked images of the Galaxy Tab S6 yesterday and also confirmed several details about the tablet. Samsung is jumping straight to the Galaxy Tab S6 after launching the Galaxy Tab S5e earlier this year.

The company is yet to confirm when it’s going to launch a new tablet. However, it’s most likely due for release in a couple of months. This is also backed up by the Wi-Fi certification that the Galaxy Tab S6’s LTE variant has now picked up.

Galaxy Tab S6 release isn’t that far off now

Like the images we leaked yesterday show, the Galaxy Tab S6’s design will be quite similar to that of the Galaxy Tab S5e. It features a 10.5-inch display and comes with the Snapdragon 855 processor. A benchmark listing has revealed that it will come with 6GB of RAM. The base model will offer 128GB internal storage with 256GB being the option.

The Galaxy Tab S6 will feature an S Pen as well which will attach magnetically to the groove at the tablet’s back. This will also be Samsung’s first tablet with a dual camera system at the back. Both Wi-Fi and LTE models will be available when the Galaxy Tab S6 release takes place.

The LTE variant bearing model number SM-T865 has now picked up its Wi-Fi certification. This also reiterates that the device will be running Android 9 Pie out of the box. You wouldn’t expect any less of it.

Samsung did launch the Galaxy Tab S4 a week before the Galaxy Note 9’s launch last year. Whether we will see a repeat of that this year is unknown. There’s also the chance that Samsung might keep it under the wraps until IFA 2019 in September.
