Samsung launches 8GB RAM variant of Galaxy A32 in India

Samsung had launched the Galaxy A32 in India earlier this year. The smartphone was available in only one variant in India: 6GB RAM + 128GB storage. Now, the South Korean firm has launched the 8GB RAM variant of the smartphone in the country.

This new smartphone variant, which has 128GB of internal storage, is priced at INR 23,499 (around $315). The device is available for purchase via Samsung’s website and other leading online retailers. The Galaxy A32 is available in three color variants: Awesome Black, Awesome Blue, and Awesome Violet.

The Galaxy A32 features a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The screen has a U-shaped notch to house the 20MP selfie camera. At the rear, the phone has a 64MP primary camera, an 8MP ultrawide camera, a 5MP macro camera, and a 5MP depth sensor. Video recording is capped at 1080p 30fps, though.

The smartphone is equipped with a MediaTek Helio G80 processor, 6GB/8GB RAM, 128GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot. It features a dual-SIM card, GPS, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, a USB Type-C port, and a headphone jack. It is powered by a 5,000mAh battery and supports up to 15W fast charging. It runs Android 11 out of the box.

Google canceling Pixel Fold isn’t bad news, it’s a chance to embrace Samsung

Samsung was the only OEM to truly stake its reputation on foldable smartphones. The original Galaxy Fold stumbled out the gate. Many questioned the logic behind launching such a device. Others felt that it was a novelty that would die out.

Little did they know what Samsung had in store. Merely a few months later, Samsung came out with the Galaxy Z Flip. It reinvented clamshell phones for the modern era and elevated their designs to a status of high fashion. The company would go on to follow it up with the Galaxy Z Fold 2.

Then came the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. They’re the world’s first water resistant foldable smartphones. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is also the first foldable to have support for the S Pen. It’s even the first Samsung smartphone with an Under Display Camera.

In just two years, Samsung has shown the world that it’s serious about the foldable category. It’s not just making these devices to prove a point. Much like it did with the Galaxy Note series, it’s pushing the industry into a whole new direction with its foldable smartphones.

That’s one of the reasons why we hear that many other OEMs are now thinking about launching their own foldable smartphones. Such is Samsung’s dominance in this market right now, though, that they will certainly have a hard time catching up.

Perhaps that is what Google has realized. With the launch of the new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, Google has shown that it’s getting serious about hardware. The new devices come with Google’s first in-house designed mobile SoC. So it wasn’t surprising to hear that the internet search giant was thinking about foldable phones as well.

Rumors had suggested that the device would be called the Google Pixel Fold. No actual evidence emerged to support the theory that Google had a foldable phone in the works. However, when it announced Android 12L, to many it felt like the clearest indication yet of its future plans.

That may no longer be the case, though. Recent reports claim that Google has cancelled the Pixel Fold that it was planning to launch in mid-2022. It apparently believed that the device wouldn’t have been compelling enough against foldables from Samsung and other OEMs.

Even if the Google Pixel Fold was launched in 2022, would Google have been able to do the device justice? Smartphone sales still don’t account for much more than a rounding error on the company’s balance sheets.

This isn’t a big area of business yet for Google. It neither has the retail and carrier partnerships that Samsung has to push devices nor does it have its own massive retail footprint. It probably wouldn’t have been able to match Samsung when it came to marketing and ensuring the availability of the device across the globe.

There’s one advantage that Samsung now has in the foldable market that no other OEM does. It has a proven track record. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 have already broken all of its previous foldable sales records. The technology has improved considerably and will only get better in the coming years.

Google can better service the foldable market not by launching its own device but by working with Samsung on improving the software. Android 12L is a step in the right direction. Announced last month, Android 12L is a modified version of its mobile OS that will improve the UI design and features on foldable smartphones and tablets.

Software is key to enabling a good user experience on foldable smartphones. There’s only so much that Samsung can do within the confines of One UI. It can’t touch the underlying Android OS. True change will come when Google ramps up initiatives like Android 12L to enable foldable smartphones to provide users with more value.

Google and Samsung have worked together on enhancing the software experience for foldables before. They’ve done it for apps like Duo and YouTube that were among the first to support Flex Mode. There’s no reason why this partnership can’t be expanded further.

In Samsung, Google has a proven partner that’s fully committed to the foldable segment. Samsung is dominant in this market. It has a truly global reach that’s the envy of many of its competitors.

Google should think of this as an opportunity to be locked in an even tighter embrace with Samsung, instead of trying to make a foldable smartphone just for the heck of it.

One UI 4.0 update is coming to India in December, official roadmap reveals

Samsung has dozens of Galaxy smartphones and tablets waiting for the latest Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update, and the release schedule for India is now official. The company confirmed the tentative roadmap through the Samsung Members app, according to which Indian customers can expect One UI 4.0 to drop starting December.

The Galaxy S21 series, the Galaxy Z Flip 3, and the Z Fold 3 will be the first to get Android 12 in India. Customers should receive an update notification in December, assuming everything goes according to plan. Availability is subject to change — the company added at the end of its lengthy list of devices.

Galaxy phones that should get Android 12 and One UI 4.0 in January 2022 are: Galaxy S21/S21+/S21 Ultra, Galaxy S20/20+/S20 Ultra, Galaxy S20 FE, Galaxy S10/S10e/S10+, Galaxy S10 Lite, Galaxy Note 20/20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 10/10+, Galaxy Note 10 Lite, Galaxy Z Flip, Galaxy Fold, and Galaxy Z Fold 2.

Samsung will continue releasing One UI 4.0 for tablets, mid-range and low-cost phones — Galaxy A/M/F series — from February 2022.

This isn’t a roadmap for One UI 4.0 availability worldwide

The schedule Samsung revealed through its Members app concerns India, even though it could coincide with other markets. But it’s important to remember that One UI 4.0 will launch sooner in some regions. Samsung’s already rolling out Android 12 for the Galaxy S21 series in countries like the USA and in Europe. The Galaxy S10 series could receive Android 12 in December in some regions, according to an Oculus press release that marks the end of support for Gear VR. Then again, other markets could get One UI 4.0 later than India.

As for the roadmap for India, it lists devices up to July 2022, so there’s a 6-7 month period in which Samsung plans to release one update after another. There are dozens of eligible phones and tablets, so here’s hoping that the company can stick to the schedule.

Thanks for the tip, Shubham!

More Galaxy S21 USA carrier variants get updated with One UI 4.0

More carriers in the USA have joined Verizon in releasing the Android 12 (One UI 4.0) firmware update for the Galaxy S21 series. T-Mobile and Sprint are rolling out One UI 4.0 as we speak, but some limitations are in place until next week.

The One UI 4.0 update should be available for your Galaxy S21 from the Settings app — the Software Update section — but if it isn’t, it’s because T-Mobile has a daily limit on downloads. You’ll have to check back again the next day or wait until the carrier lifts the limit on November 23. Alternatively, you can download the One UI 4.0 update (where available) from our firmware section and install it via a PC. Make sure you download the correct one for your T-Mobile / Sprint Galaxy S21/S21+/S21 Ultra variant.

AT&T doesn’t appear to have released One UI 4.0 for its Galaxy S21 yet, though it could be joining the other three US carriers soon, and our firmware section will reflect that once it does.

What’s new in Android 12 (One UI 4.0) for the Galaxy S21?

One UI 4.0 refreshes the overall UI and improves Samsung apps with usually-small additions that should add up to deliver a better user experience than One UI 3.1. There’s a much bigger focus on color customization and widgets in One UI 4.0, and Samsung also brought improvements to Device Care and privacy.

Check our hands-on video below for a closer look at some of these changes. And if One UI 4.0 isn’t available for your Galaxy S21 yet, it should be soon. Samsung will also release the update to countless other Galaxy smartphones and tablets in and outside the USA, so stay tuned and keep an eye on our firmware section.

As most of you know, Samsung began the official Android 12 (One UI 4.0) rollout for the Galaxy S21 worldwide on Monday. Galaxy S10 will drop Gear VR support once Android 12 lands in December

The Galaxy S10 series will no longer support the Gear VR platform once Android 12 and One UI 4.0 go live later this year — Oculus announced this week. If Gear VR is one of the main reasons you’re using the Galaxy S10 to this day, you’ll have a tough choice to make come December. You’ll either want to keep using Gear VR with Android 11 on the Galaxy S10 or abandon the VR platform in favor of Android 12 and One UI 4.0.

The truth of the matter is that the Gear VR platform is on its last legs. Samsung discontinued the Gear VR headset a couple of years ago and killed its XR service last year. Obviously, the Gear VR is no longer a priority for Samsung, and it was only a matter of time before Oculus pulled the plug.

The good news: Android 12 could land on the Galaxy S10 next month

Samsung briefly spilled the beans on its One UI 4.0 (Android 12) launch plans in a roadmap before deleting said information yesterday. Said roadmap suggested that the Galaxy S10 series will receive One UI 4.0 in January 2022, but Oculus suggests otherwise.

According to the press release related to Gear VR support, the Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, and the Galaxy S10 5G will start receiving Android 12 and One UI 4.0 in December. The update began rolling out for the Galaxy S20 series earlier this week.

Come next month, will you abandon the Gear VR for the newer version of One UI? Or will you be sticking with Android 11 and continue using the VR platform?

Leaked Galaxy A33 hardware photos confirm several design characteristics

The Galaxy A33’s purported design got revealed in leaked renders over the weekend, but now it’s time for some real-life photos to bring the phone back into the headlines. Several components, including the phone’s chassis, are featured in the image gallery below, and once again, the phone appears to lack a 3.5mm audio port.

According to these photos (via 91mobiles), the Galaxy A33 has a USB-C connector and a speaker on the lower edge and carries a SIM card tray on the upper edge. The camera housing looks much like it did in the recent renders, though the photos at hand don’t reveal anything about the number of sensors.

The Galaxy A33 should have four rear-facing cameras, and although it’s missing in these photos, the display should have an Infinity-U notch for the selfie camera.

Don’t expect the Galaxy A33 to launch this year

Samsung hasn’t revealed any concrete release plans for the Galaxy A33, but if the company maintains a yearly launch schedule, it should unveil the upcoming model in February 2022 — the same month in which the Galaxy S22 series should hit the shelves.

The device is rumored to have a 6.4-inch display, a 5,000mAh battery — same as its predecessor — and should be released in at least four color options, namely black, light blue, orange, and white.

You might wanna turn off this selfie feature on your Galaxy phone

Selfies. Either you dislike them or you can’t stop taking them. There seems to be no middle ground. The vast majority seems to like taking selfies. Whether it’s in front of beautiful scenery or in a group of friends.

Smartphone makers know that which is why they’ve been catering to this need with improved selfie cameras and features. It’s not just the best Samsung phones that let you take great selfies. However, there is one feature that you’d want to turn off.

Disable this feature for better selfies

Fire up the camera app on your phone and open the settings menu. You’ll see a feature called Save selfies as previewed enabled by default. What it does is save selfies exactly how you see them on the phone without flipping them.

A lot of people don’t know that this feature is enabled by default. So, for example, if they’re wearing a hat and they take a selfie, any letters and designs on the hat will be flipped. You can see an example in the photo below.

The image on the left was taken with the feature disabled. You can see that the logo and lettering are not flipped. However, when the feature is enabled, they’re flipped.

So if you tend to wear a lot of hats then you should definitely keep this feature disabled. If you don’t then perhaps this doesn’t really matter to you.
