Galaxy S8 Lite will be announced as the Galaxy S Light Luxury today

It was first reported about a month ago that Samsung appears to have a new handset in the pipeline which has a design similar to the Galaxy S8 with mid-range specifications. It was then referred to as the Galaxy S8 Lite even though there was no indication that Samsung would actually call this smartphone that. The company has now sent out invites to the press in China for an event later today and that invite reveals that this device will actually be called the Galaxy S Light Luxury.

Countless renders of the so-called Galaxy S8 Lite have been leaked online over the past couple of weeks. The design is quite similar to the Galaxy S8 and it features a 5.8-inch FHD+ Infinity Display. It even has the physical Bixby button that Samsung introduced with the Galaxy S8 last year.

The design similarities continue at the back where the fingerprint sensor is placed alongside the camera. You’ll notice that it doesn’t have a heart rate sensor at the other side of the camera sensor and that’s because it’s not meant to be a flagship device.

Previous reports have also revealed that this handset will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It will feature a 16-megapixel rear and 8-megapixel front camera, a 3,000mAh battery and it will ship with Android 8.0 Oreo.

Samsung has invited 100 people for the launch event at its Jingdong headquarters in Beijing today. The event invite has reportedly revealed this device’s moniker and it will be launched as the Galaxy S Light Luxury.

It’s unclear how much Samsung is going to sell this device for in the country but it will be available in black and burgundy red colors, the latter quickly becoming the color of choice for many Samsung fans.

For all intents and purposes, though, this mid-range handset appears to be limited to China so it would be best not to keep your fingers crossed for a global launch of this smartphone.

Sunrise Gold Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ may be launched in the US

Samsung recently announced two new color options for the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ called Burgundy Red and Sunrise Gold. The latter is actually a new color that Samsung has introduced with this flagship as it has already been selling the Galaxy S8 in Burgundy Red.

Samsung confirmed that the Sunrise Gold Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will be available in select markets later this month. While it didn’t confirm if the United States will get this color option, a new leak suggests that this option may be heading Stateside as well.

Sunrise Gold Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+

Samsung is only going to offer the Burgundy Red color for its new flagship to customers in China and South Korea. The Sunrise Gold option will be available there as well later this month but Samsung did mention in its press release that it would also be offered in Germany, Australia, Hong Kong, Chile, Russia, Mexico, Spain, Taiwan, Vietnam and the United Arab Emirates next month. The company even said that other markets would follow thereafter.

The company didn’t say that the Sunrise Gold color option won’t be available in the United States even though the country wasn’t mentioned in its press release. This left the possibility of it arriving wide open. Evan Blass a.k.a @evleaks has tweeted out a render which seems to suggest that this color option will be available to customers in the United States as well.

You may not be able to immediately spot the difference in the render he tweeted out compared to the ones Samsung shared in its press release but if you look closely, you’ll see that his renders display the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ monikers at the back. This is a clear indication that Samsung will offer the option in the United States because no other variant except the one sold in the United States carries the handset’s name at the back.

That, coupled with the solid track record of Blass when it comes to product leaks, gives enough reason to believe that customers in the United States will indeed be able to pick up the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ in Sunrise Gold.

Samsung describes it as its first color to feature a stain gloss finish which envelops the device in a tranquil glow and glimmer in order to evoke feelings of vibrancy and calm. Samsung developed this finish to appeal to customers with a touch of high fashion and urban interior design.
