Samsung rolls out Grace UX update for the Galaxy Note 5 in South Korea

Samsung has today started distributing a much-anticipated update for the Korea Telecom variant of the Galaxy Note 5 in South Korea. While the upgrade doesn’t bring Nougat to the handset, it does bundle a build of Marshmallow that’s skinned with the firm’s much-anticipated Grace user interface, which debuted on the Galaxy Note 7, together with a multitude of additional bug fixes, stability improvements.

As outlined in the user manual that surfaced for the Galaxy Grand Prime (2016) a couple of months ago, Grace UX is heavily based on Android 6.0.1 and offers users neat new features like Wide Selfie, Ultra Power Saving Mode, Smart Manager and Game Tools. It’s a lot cleaner than previous builds of TouchWiz and sports smoother animations.

Like usual, the update — firmware version KKU2CPI1 — is being pushed out in stages, so don’t be alarmed if you haven’t received a notification prompting you to install the upgrade just yet. If you own a Korea Telecom-branded model of the Galaxy Note 5 and would like to see if the upgrade is ready for your handset, simply head into Settings » About Device » Software Update » Update Now.

Here’s how Samsung Pay on the Gear S3 works with non-Samsung devices

Yesterday, Samsung announced that Gear S3 owners are now able to use Samsung Pay to purchase goods using their smartwatch even if it’s not paired with a Galaxy-branded smartphone thanks to a new update for the Gear Manager application — and now we know how it works.

To bring the functionality to the Gear S3, Samsung has had to adapt its mobile payment platform to work within the Gear Manager app. Once you’ve downloaded and installed the latest version of the app, you’ll find a dedicated Samsung Pay configuration menu listed below S Health.

Before you dive in and start making payments from your wrist, you’ll first need to tap on the Samsung Pay subheading in the Gear Manager app, then follow the step-by-step instructions to create an account, input you billing and credit/debit card information, and verify that it’s correct.

That’s all there is to it.

Samsung possibly selling its PC business to Lenovo

Samsung Electronics has been involved in some serious corporate restructuring over the past several months as it seeks to enhance focus on core businesses and cut struggling ventures. Samsung’s decision to sell its printing business to HP for over $1 billion showed that the company is serious in its efforts to become a leaner organization. A new report out of South Korea claims that Samsung now wants to sell its PC business and that it’s talking to Chinese giant Lenovo about a potential deal.

International law firm Paul Hastings is believed to be representing Samsung while Lenovo is being represented by Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. Samsung rarely reveals the numbers that its PC business brings in so it’s hard to estimate what it will be worth. The report claims that if a deal is reached it may be valued at more than $850 million, however, it does add that talks have continued for months but little progress has been made so far.

Lenovo is the largest PC manufacturer in the world in terms of shipments and is in a strong position to acquire Samsung’s PC business. Whether or not it will choose to do so at a price that makes sense to it remains to be seen. This report has neither been confirmed nor refuted by Samsung yet.
