Galaxy S8 colors and pricing for Italy revealed

We’ve seen pricing for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ leak for Europe, at €799 and €899, but Italy will see prices slightly higher than these. According to an independent source, Italian buyers will pay €829 and €929 for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ respectively, which is €30 more than the Europe pricing Evan Blass provided a few days ago.

As for the colors of the upcoming Galaxy S8 and S8+, the same source says that the Galaxy S8 will come in Arctic Silver, Black Sky, and Purple Violet colors, with the Galaxy S8+ offering the same three color options. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ model numbers SM-G950 and SM-G955 are expected. The Arctic Silver and Black Sky were revealed along with the new Orchid Gray option, but Samsung looks to make the Orchid Gray regional instead of worldwide.

We’ve wondered about the Purple Violet color and its worldwide availability since its photo poses, but the Italian market leaves us wondering if Samsung will release this or maintain its exclusivity in a few markets. This news answers the question for Italy, but as for other markets, not so much. It could have the same restricted fate as the Orchid Gray color option. The press shot showcasing a Gold Galaxy S8 is still a question mark, too.

The Galaxy S6 edge for Italy was priced at €889 for the 32GB and €999 for the 64GB storage models. For comparison, the Galaxy S4 for Italy was €600-650, so between the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S6, Samsung’s smartphones have risen a bit in price. Of course, Samsung has traded in its plastic design for premium glass and metal, and looks to double the internal storage in the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus as compared to the 32GB base storage for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge from last year; the S8′s internal storage will be four times greater than that of the 16GB base storage in the Galaxy S4 launched four years ago.

USB Type-C charging and fast wireless charging are also part of the package, so some would say the high-end price matches the high-end experience.

Italy customers, what do you think of these prices?

Samsung announces Gear S3 Classic with LTE

Samsung launched a cellular version of the Gear S3 classic a couple of months back in South Korea and this gave people hope that perhaps this variant would get cellular connectivity in other markets as well. Samsung previously offered LTE with the sportier Gear S3 frontier. The company today announced that it’s adding 4G LTE support to the Gear S3 classic.

Samsung has confirmed that the LTE version of the Gear S3 classic will be available from Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. It will allow users to call, navigate, pay and more using just the smartwatch on their wrist as it won’t depend on a smartphone for an internet connection. It gets support for Samsung Pay as well so users can make payments on the go with their LTE-compatible Gear S3 classic.

This gives customers the freedom to choose between the style that they want, whether they like the more traditional looking Gear S3 classic or the sporty Gear S3 frontier, they can now have LTE on both. Everything else remains the same so it’s pretty much the same smartwatch that the company launched last year.

Pricing and availability details will be confirmed by Samsung’s carrier partners. No word as yet if this variant will be released in other markets across the globe as well.

Galaxy S8 could go up for pre-order in the Netherlands on March 29th

March 29th is an important date for Samsung, as it will finally be taking the stage to unveil the Galaxy S8, following months of leaks and rumors that have given us a mostly complete picture of what to expect from the flagship. Pre-order and release dates for a few markets have also been mentioned in some rumors, and we’re now getting word on the Galaxy S8′s potential pre-order date in the Netherlands.

According to Androidworld.nl, pre-orders for the S8 and S8+ will go live in the Netherlands on the same day the phones will be made official. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to consumers in the country, as Samsung usually puts up its flagships for pre-order in the country on launch day. The bigger question is when the phones will be sent out to consumers, and currently there is no information regarding the same. April 21st could be a possible target for the company, as that is the date the S8 is expected to be made available in South Korea.

The site’s sources have also suggested that Samsung will not be giving away any freebies along with pre-orders this year. That is likely to disappoint folks who had been expecting to see a few goodies being offered with the S8, especially the S8+, which will be priced higher than the S7 edge and Note 7. Of course, pre-order bonuses will be market dependent so it is possible they will be offered in some countries. In any case, none of this information is fully confirmed and can change in the few days left before the Galaxy S8 Unpacked event, so it’s best to take everything with a pinch of salt at this point in time.

Samsung to showcase three concept watches based on Gear S3 at Baselworld 2017

If you’re into watches then you surely must know what Baselworld is. It’s an annual gathering of the watch community in Basel, Switzerland where manufacturers show off their latest collections. Samsung is obviously not a popular Swiss watchmaker but it’s making an appearance at Baselworld 2017 in an effort to bridge the gap between high technology and the Swiss watch design heritage. The Gear smartwatch portfolio has tagged along for the ride.

Samsung is showcasing new custom watch straps, additional color options of Gear S3 as well as interesting concept designs at Baselworld 2017. The Gear S3 will obviously be front and center in Samsung’s display.

Yvan Arpa, the Switzerland-based luxury watch designer that Samsung has worked with, will be joining the company at Baselworld to introduce three new concept watches based on the Gear S3. These include a model that may look like the Gear S3 at first glance but actually houses a traditional Swiss-made movement and detail.

The company has also confirmed that it’s going to start rolling out a Value Pack during Baselworld 2017 for the Gear S2 and Gear S3 which will deliver more content such as new apps and improvements for features like Alti/Barometer, S Health and Reminder.

Galaxy S8 release date for South Korea said to be April 21

According to a new report out of South Korea, Samsung has increased its efforts to boost the pre-order numbers of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. The company is reportedly going to disclose subsidy information to early bird customers in its home country in the near future. It’s claimed that Samsung will start taking pre-orders for its new flagship from April 7 to April 17 in South Korea. The official retail release date is said to be April 21.

To get as many people to try out the new handsets as it possibly can, Samsung is going to establish tryout zones at more than 4,000 retail stores across the country as part of an aggressive sales campaign. Customers who place a pre-order will apparently receive their handsets on April 18, three days before the retail release.

Industry analysts are of the view that pre-order numbers for the Galaxy S8 are likely going to surpass the Galaxy Note 7 which brought in more than 400,000 pre-orders during the 13 day period last year.

This has obviously not been confirmed officially at this point in time so take it with a grain of salt. It goes without saying that the pre-order and release dates will vary by market.

Leak: Pre-order Galaxy S8 from Target starting April 2nd

Previous reports have suggested that Samsung will start taking pre-orders for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus in the first week of April. If a new leak is to be believed, customers in the United States will be able to pre-order Galaxy S8 from Target starting April 2. The retailer will apparently be offering some incentives to pre-order customers as well.

A Target brochure has appeared online which reveals that the retailer is going to start taking pre-orders for Samsung’s next flagship smartphone from April 2. It appears that Target is also going to offer a free Gear VR headset with Controller and a $100 gift card that can be used to purchase anything that Target sells.

We’ve seen Samsung offer free Gear VR headsets before to pre-order customers so this isn’t surprising at all. Retailers tend to offer their own incentives to get customers to order from them.

The brochure doesn’t reveal when pre-ordered units will start shipping, that date will obviously coincide with the flagship’s retail release, which by current reports is expected to be somewhere in mid-April.

Galaxy Note 5 Nougat update is now out in these countries

We first reported last week that the Galaxy Note 5 Nougat update had been released in Turkey. A roadmap revealed by Samsung Turkey suggested that this handset would receive Android 7.0 by mid-March and that has turned out to be true. Samsung has rolled out the Nougat update for the Galaxy Note 5 in several additional markets since then all of which have been listed below.

If you own a Galaxy Note 5 (SM-N920C) in the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Libya, Iraq, Israel, Iraq, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan you should have received the over-the-air update notification for Nougat. Samsung has rolled out firmware version N920CXXU3CQC7 for the Galaxy Note 5 in these countries.

Not only does this firmware update bring everything that’s part and parcel of Android 7.0 Nougat but it also includes the latest security patch for the month of March. Those who haven’t received an over-the-air update notification on their handsets as yet can head over to our firmware section and download the relevant Nougat firmware files for the Galaxy Note 5.

T-Mobile releases March security patch for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge

T-Mobile is sending out a new firmware update for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge. Since both handsets have been updated to Android 7.0 Nougat there’s no need to expect a major upgrade. It’s actually just the latest security maintenance release for last year’s flagships that T-Mobile is now rolling out for users on its network.

The minor update weighs in at 51MB and is now live for last year’s flagships on T-Mobile’s network. It brings the March security update for both handsets, the security update includes fixes for dozens of vulnerabilities in Android OS as well as the vulnerabilities that Samsung found in its software.

Firmware version G930TUVS4BQC1 and G935TUVS4BQC1 is now being rolled out for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge respectively. T-Mobile is rolling out the update over-the-air so it may be a while before it’s made available to all users on its network.

Those who don’t shy away from manually flashing their handsets can also find the relevant update files over at our firmware section for the T-Mobile Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge.
