T-Mobile sends out a new firmware update for the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge

Those who own the Galaxy S6 or the Galaxy S6 edge on T-Mobile are receiving a new software update today but they shouldn’t get too excited because Android 6.0 Marshmallow has still not arrived for Samsung’s current flagship handsets. T-Mobile has sent out an incremental firmware update for both the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge instead which makes several improvements to overall device performance, battery performance and call stability.

Build number G920TUVU3DOJ7 and G925TUVU3DOJ7 is now being rolled out for the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge on T-Mobile. The changelog states that this firmware update brings improvements for the overall device performance, improves security of the device, call stability, battery life and optimizes closing unused applications. The Milk Video application has also been removed in this update, which isn’t surprising since the Milk Video is shutting down this month. It has only been an hour or so since T-Mobile started rolling out this update so it might take some time for this update to go live across all regions.

AT&T will start selling the Galaxy View on November 20

We exclusively reported earlier this year that Samsung had an 18.4-inch tablet in the pipeline, the company teased this device a couple of times before formally launching it as the Galaxy View “movable display.” It’s an entirely different category altogether since it’s not really meant to do the tasks you would with a normal tablet, the fact that it has a big 18.4-inch display shows that this device is meant for the express purpose of content consumption and it does come with software features that provide just that.

Folks in the United States can already purchase the movable display from Samsung but those who want to purchase it from a wireless carrier can soon purchase it from AT&T which is the only carrier in the country that’s selling this device. AT&T is selling the tablet for $0 down and equal monthly installments of $30 per month for 20 months on its tablet installment plan, customers can also choose to purchase it with a two year service contract for $499.99. The carrier is offering promotional pricing for DirecTV customers, new and existing. New customers can buy the Galaxy View for $99 with a two year contract when they sign up for a new service, all existing users have to do is activate a new line with a smartphone to also get the Galaxy View for $99.99 with a two year contract. The Galaxy View will be available from AT&T online and through its retail stores from November 20.

Rumored model numbers for Snapdragon 820 and Exynos 8890 powered Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge

Samsung decided to skip the Snapdragon 810 this year and both the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge came with the company’s Exynos 7420 processor. Several rumors have claimed that the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 could use both the Snapdragon 820 and the recently announced Exynos 8 Octa 8890 processor. Rumored model numbers for both variants of the handsets powered by either processor have now appeared online.

As per this list the Galaxy S7 (SM-G930) and the Galaxy S7 edge (SM-G935) will be available with either the Snapdragon or Exynos processor depending upon markets and wireless carriers. The Snapdragon 820 powered models are listed for China (SM-G9300, SM-G9350), Verizon (SM-G930V, SM-G935V), Sprint (SM-G930P, SM-G935P) and US Cellular (SM-G930R4, SM-G935R4). It’s interesting to note that all of these are apparently destined for CDMA carriers.

On the other hand the Exynos 8 Octa 8890 is supposedly going to power the international unlocked models (SM-G930F, SM-G935F), T-Mobile (SM-G930T, SM-G935T), AT&T (SM-G930A, SM-G935A), Canada (SM-G930W8, SM-G935W8) and and Korean variants (SM-G930 S/K/L, SM-G935 S/K/L). All of this comes from an unofficial source so it can’t really be considered absolutely true at this point, even though the model numbers pretty much follow tradition, but we’ll have to wait for a bit more information to be really sure about them.

Someone with a T-Mobile Galaxy Note 5 has gotten access to Android 6.0

Samsung’s faster flagship launches could soon be paired with faster software upgrades. Android 6.0 has been out for less than a month, and an XDA user with a Galaxy Note 5 on T-Mobile is already running an early build on his phone. It seems to be a fluke, and a big one at that – the device’s owner went back to a stock firmware from a custom ROM, and when he tried to do an official update, Marshmallow is what he got.

Based on the screenshots, this doesn’t seem to be a fake, even though there seem to be a few UI changes that look rather odd. For example, the camera and phone icons on the lockscreen are the same as the ones on the homescreen, the notification shade is all white even though it seems the default theme is being used, and there are a few other variations in the interface compared to what we have on Lollipop. But the ROM seems to have the new permissions feature of Marshmallow, which doesn’t let app access a particular feature on the device unless you give it permission to do so, and the OS version is also mentioned in the phone’s recovery mode.

The build number of the firmware is MRA58K.N920TUVU2DOK5, and considering the phone’s radio doesn’t work on the build, it’s not too close to a final version. Yet, even if this is an early build, it suggests that Samsung could start rolling out Marshmallow to at least the Note 5 before the end of this year. As always, nothing is certain until we come across something official, so don’t get too excited about seeing Android 6.0 on Samsung’s most complete flagship smartphone.

Pictures of the second-gen Galaxy A5 and the Galaxy A7 leaked

Samsung is expected to launch updated models of its Galaxy A smartphones in the near future, just last week pictures of the second-generation Galaxy A3 and the Galaxy A5 were leaked online, and now we’re not only seeing additional pictures of the Galaxy A5 but also of the Galaxy A7. The leaked pictures have originated from China and show that aside from improved specifications several changes have been made to the design of these handsets.

It’s believed that the Galaxy A5 will feature a 5.2-inch full HD display, 1.6GHz Exynos 7 Octa processor with Mali-T720 GPU and 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage with microSD expansion support and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Design changes relocation of the speaker grill to the bottom, change in positioning of the rear camera and LED flash, and from the looks of it the handset also happens to have a glass back which when coupled with its metal frame will provide an overall premium feel. It’s more or less the same story with the Galaxy A7 which is said to feature a 5.5-inch full HD display, 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor with 3GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage with support for external expansion via microSD cards. Both handsets are said to come with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop aside from a 13-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front-facing camera. No word as yet on pricing or availability of the upcoming Galaxy A models, Samsung has not yet said when it intends to launch these handsets.

Images of Samsung’s new flip phone leak, design appears similar to Galaxy S6

Images of Samsung’s upcoming flip phone, which was certified by TENAA last week, have been unearthed. After looking at the images, we can safely claim that the SM-W2016 looks like a clamshell version of the Galaxy S6, thanks to its glass and metal build, and hardware specifications.

We want to mention that the device will not be called the Galaxy Golden 3. It will most probably be released as the SM-W2016, and it features two 3.9-inch Super AMOLED displays, each with a resolution of 1,280 x 786 pixels, a numeric (T9) keypad, a 16-megapixel primary camera, and a 5-megapixel secondary camera.

In terms of internal hardware, the SM-W2016 features a 64-bit octa-core Exynos 7420 processor, 3GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, and runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. The device weighs 204 grams and has dimensions of 120.4 x 61 x 15.1 mm. It’s a high-end smartphone, and will definitely have an appeal with clamshell lovers who want a Galaxy S6 like premium device.
