Galaxy S10 Android 10 update rollout halted in Israel

It seemed too good to be true when Samsung started rolling out the Android 10 update for the Galaxy S10 series a couple of weeks back, a full month before the year ends. We have been using Android 10 on one of our Galaxy S10+ units and have found it to be pretty stable, and our readers from various countries have also found it to work pretty well.

However, it seems a few serious bugs slipped through in the update that was released in Israel, as Samsung has halted its rollout in the country. We can confirm that the update is no longer being rolled out in Israel. According to one of our readers from the country, Samsung customer support is not giving any specific details and is only saying that a new update will be released soon.

It’s possible the bugs that are affecting the update are specific to the devices sold in Israel/Israeli carriers, as the same Android 10 build was released in every market and there haven’t been any reports of any major issues in the update from other countries. We’ll keep an eye on the situation and let you know as soon as we hear anything, and you can also tell us in the comments if you have run into any issues on your Galaxy S10 after updating to Android 10.

Thanks for the tip, neorai!

Galaxy S11 glimpsed in the flesh in newly leaked photos

Two photos allegedly showing the Galaxy S11 have leaked online, making this the first time we’re seeing Samsung’s upcoming flagship in the flesh. Well, all we can see is the rear camera cutout, as the device is covered by a leakproof case to prevent the actual look and design from leaking out, and it seems the rear camera cutout will protrude from the body substantially.

That’s in line with what we have seen in leaked renders of the three Galaxy S11 models, with reports saying that the camera hump will add 1.1 mm to the thickness of the device. And considering the Galaxy S11+ is going to have a wider cutout for the camera, that protrusion is a bit worrying and suggests there could be a considerable gap when the phone is lying on a surface.

Of course, that camera hump will be unavoidable if the Galaxy S11 is going to have the camera specs that rumors say it will have, like an exclusive 108MP primary camera and a periscope-style telephoto lens for 5x optical zoom. The three Galaxy S11 models are also expected to have pretty big batteries, including a 5,000 mAh battery on the Galaxy S11+, and we’re assuming all of that left Samsung no other choice than the design we are seeing in these leaks.

Galaxy S11+ may have an exclusive custom 108MP Bright HMX sensor

Preliminary reports hint at the Galaxy S11 series adopting a 108-megapixel main camera, namely the ISOCELL Bright HMX which was developed in collaboration with Xiaomi. However, the Galaxy S11+ (at least) could sport an ‘exclusive custom’ 108MP sensor that has a higher production cost. Presumably, this would be a spin-off of the existing 108MP solution, but one that would provide some extra benefits.

The higher cost is attributed to superior quality compared to the ISOCELL Bright HMX sensor, at least according to @UniverseIce. It’s not entirely clear how this alleged custom camera model would be better than the unit employed by Xiaomi’s newer smartphones, but the source claims that it will have the same sensor size of 1/1.3 inches.

The ongoing ISOCELL Bright HMX was unveiled roughly four months ago, and while Samsung has yet to equip it on any of its smartphones, Xiaomi already uses it for the Mi CC9 Pro and Mi Note 10. The Chinese company will continue to adopt the sensor for other models expected to hit the shelves soon.

It would make some sense for Samsung to want and differentiate the flagship-grade camera of its own smartphones from those developed for its competitors, or indeed its clients. And if the report is correct then this ‘custom’ sensor based on the ISOCELL Bright HMX will remain exclusive to Samsung’s product lineup.

Whether or not this will be the case remains to be seen, but as usual, it’s not a bad idea to be a bit skeptical of unconfirmed rumors. Either way, the Galaxy S11 rumor mill isn’t going to stop spinning anytime soon so we’ll keep you updated with new details as they surface.
