You can now buy the Galaxy Book Go in the US

Samsung had unveiled the affordable Galaxy Book Go earlier this month. The laptop features an ARM-based Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c Gen. 2 processor and runs the Windows 10 operating system. Now, you can buy the Galaxy Book Go if you live in the US.

The Galaxy Book Go is now available for purchase via Samsung’s US website. The laptop is currently available in just one memory configuration (4GB LPDDR4X RAM + 128GB eUFS storage), one color (silver), and a Wi-Fi-only variant. It costs just $350. At this price, the Galaxy Book Go will compete with a lot of Chromebooks. It’s cheaper than Samsung’s own Galaxy Chromebook 2, and that’s saying something. The variants with 8GB RAM and LTE connectivity may become available for purchase later this month.

Samsung has equipped the Galaxy Book Go with a 14-inch IPS LCD display with Full HD resolution. It has a plastic body, a chiclet-style tenkeyless keyboard, a glass trackpad, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, and a 720p webcam. It runs Windows 10 and uses the Snapdragon 7c Gen. 2 processor. There’s a microSD card slot for storage expansion.

In terms of connectivity and I/O ports, the Galaxy Book Go has LTE (in LTE variant only), Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, a nano-SIM card slot, one USB 2.0 Type-A port, two USB 3.2 Gen. 2 Type-C ports, and a 3.5mm headphone/mic combo jack. It is powered by a 42.3WHr battery and can charge at 25W over any of its USB Type-C ports. Samsung says that the laptop can last up to 18 hours on a single charge, but realistic numbers could be somewhere around 12 hours.

The Galaxy Book Go 5G, which has the Snapdragon 8cx Gen. 2 processor and 5G connectivity, will be available after a few months.

Will you keep your old Galaxy smartwatch even if it isn’t updated to Wear OS?

Tizen on watches is dead, long live Wear OS! Samsung finally made the move Google wanted: The Korean giant is leaving its Tizen OS behind and shifting to Wear OS for its future smartwatches, starting with the upcoming Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch Active 4. Tizen will continue to be used for Samsung’s televisions, but the company’s in-house OS is no longer going to be seen on new smartwatches — and it has been dead on smartphones for quite some time as well.

Samsung’s decision to move to Wear OS is good news, especially when you consider the implications it has for app support on Galaxy smartwatches. Samsung is also getting to keep its innovative One UI interface as it switches the underlying OS, which makes this is a win-win situation for Samsung, Google, and the fans. However, the fans aren’t completely happy: Samsung has made it clear that it will not be bringing Wear OS to smartwatches it is already selling on the market, which includes the Galaxy Watch 3 that launched less than a year ago.

Samsung has said that it will support all of its existing smartwatches for three years after launch, and the company has certainly had an excellent track record when it comes to software updates for its wearables. And some of the new features that are introduced on this year’s Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Watch Active will no doubt come to those existing watches even if they won’t get Wear OS.

But will that be enough to appease all of its existing customers? Will you be happy using your old Galaxy smartwatch in the coming years even if it misses out on Wear OS and the improved app and Google support the platform switch will bring to Samsung smartwatches released in the future? Well, that’s exactly what we want to know, so tell us by voting in the poll below and putting your thoughts into words down in the comments section!

Samsung’s Chromebooks will get monthly updates from November 2021

Samsung’s Chromebook laptops will now get faster software updates. Google has announced that it will release monthly software updates to Chrome OS-based laptops to match the frequency of updates to the Chrome web browser. The internet search giant will also allow businesses to stay on a stable update version for much longer than earlier.

Google mentioned on the Chromium Blog that it would switch to a monthly software update schedule for Chrome OS laptops starting with the release of the Chrome OS 96 version in November 2021. The company will skip the Chrome OS 95 version and jump straight to Chrome OS 96 version. The internet search giant will also allow businesses and schools to stay on a stable channel of Chrome OS for much longer (six months) than earlier.

Marina Kazatcker, Chrome OS Release TPM Lead, said, “To deliver new features more rapidly to consumers while also continuing to prioritize the key pillars of Chrome OS – security, stability, speed, and simplicity – Chrome OS will move to a 4-week stable channel starting with M96 in Q4.

Demand for Chromebooks exploded after the COVID-19 pandemic and increased remote working and remote learning trends. Year-over-year sales of Chrome OS-based laptops grew a whopping 357.1% in Q1 2021. Samsung’s growth in the segment was even higher at 496%. The firm shipped a million Chromebooks during the quarter, but it is still far away from the current market leader HP that shipped 4.4 million Chromebooks.
