The T-Mobile Galaxy S8 Oreo update is finally rolling out today merely a couple of days after Verizon released Android 8.0 for last year’s flagships. Magenta subscribers can finally get a taste of Oreo on their Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.
With both Verizon and T-Mobile rolling out the Android Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ it’s only a matter of time before AT&T and Sprint follow suit. Users on those carriers should keep their fingers crossed that they will release the update sooner rather than later.
T-Mobile Galaxy S8 Oreo update
Verizon was the first major carrier in the United States to release Android 8.0 Oreo for the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+. With the T-Mobile Galaxy S8 Oreo update, Magenta has taken the second spot on that list.
T-Mobile is now rolling out firmware version G950USQU2CRB9 and G955USQU2CRB9 for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ respectively. The update weighs in at just over 1.5GB which is to be expected since it’s a major Android platform update.
The update is being rolled out over-the-air which means that it might take a while for it to go live in all regions. Those who own last year’s flagship on Magenta can also try to manually download the T-Mobile Galaxy S8 Oreo update by navigating to the Software update menu in the Settings app.
Much like the firmware version Verizon released earlier this week, the security patch level is February 1, meaning that the latest March 2018 security patch is not included in this release. It can’t be said for sure right now how long it’s going to take for this month’s security maintenance release to arrive.
The T-Mobile Galaxy S8 Oreo update brings all of the features that are part and parcel of Android 8.0. These include the new picture-in-picture mode, multitasking support for apps, Autofill, notification dots and more. Some Samsung-specific features such as Dual Messenger and more Edge lighting effects are included too.
