Samsung reportedly working on a smaller Galaxy Note 10

With the Galaxy S10 launch out of the way, Samsung can now focus on its second flagship smartphone of the year. There have already been a couple of reports about the Galaxy Note 10. The latest out of South Korea suggests that Samsung may be working on a smaller Galaxy Note 10.

It would be the first time that we get two separate models of a Galaxy Note flagship. Anything is possible at this point, though, given that there are four models of the Galaxy S10. Samsung may have been buoyed by the success of the Galaxy S10e to attempt the same with its phablet.

Smaller Galaxy Note 10 may follow in the Galaxy S10e’s footsteps

Local reports out of South Korea suggest that Samsung may offer the smaller Galaxy Note 10 in select markets, Europe to be precise. It may be looking to appeal to customers who feel uncomfortable with smartphones that have very large displays. The Galaxy Note 10 is believed to feature a 6.7-inch display, much like the Galaxy S10 5G, so the smaller model may retain the 6.4-inch display of the Galaxy Note 9.

The report mentions that Samsung has sourced parts from its suppliers for both models separately. It may be targeting a niche market of customers who don’t prefer massive displays with this device. Samsung did nail the small flagship formula with the Galaxy S10e. We mentioned in our Galaxy S10e review that it’s a genuinely good phone and its popularity with customers is proof of that. Perhaps the company feels it can replicate that success with a smaller, and crucially cheaper, Galaxy Note 10 as well.

This is mere speculation at this point, though, as it’s far from certain that there will be two Galaxy Note models. Even if Samsung does decide to make it, it wouldn’t make sense to limit the device to select markets. So take this with a heavy dose of salt until we find out more. What can be expected with reasonable certainty are two separate Galaxy Note 10 models, one each for 4G and 5G.

Samsung pulls Android Pie update for Galaxy A7 (2018) in the Netherlands

Generally, Samsung’s rollout of Android Pie has been quite smooth, but it has hit a bump with the Galaxy A7 (2018) in the Netherlands. The update makes regular phone calls impossible. The update has been pulled, awaiting a structural solution.

Galaxy A7 update to Android Pie pulled in the Netherlands

Samsung has managed to offer Android 9 Pie and its new One UI to 2018’s A series earlier than originally predicted. And where haste is made, bugs are bound to surface. In the Netherlands, Galaxy A7 users running firmware version A750FNXXU1BSC4 report major issues making phone calls. It appears that in quite a few cases the caller cannot be heard, as Galaxy Club reports.

Samsung has been made aware of the issue and has now pulled the firmware from its servers, though this only appears to be the case in the Netherlands. In other countries, where the bug does not seem to affect devices, the same firmware remains available.

Dutch users who did not yet install the new firmware have to wait until a solution is available before they can upgrade their Galaxy A7 to Android Pie. Users who already installed the updated can temporarily bypass the issue by disabling VoLTE calls. You can do so by going into Settings » Connections » Mobile networks, and switching off VoLTE calls.
