Galaxy Chromebook Go with LTE has finally arrived in the UK

Samsung’s been increasing its influence in the Chromebook segment throughout the year. The company achieved 496% growth in the Chromebook segment last April, and industry watchers expect half of Samsung’s notebook shipments in 2021 to consist of Chromebooks. To that goal, Samsung launched the Galaxy Chromebook Go in the UK earlier this week.

The Galaxy Chromebook Go was originally unveiled in June. It was released in the USA a month later, and AT&T began offering the LTE variant in August. Now, Samsung is launching the Galaxy Chromebook Go LTE in a different country across the pond.

UK customers can now buy the Galaxy Chromebook Go LTE in the UK for £399. The device is available in silver with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage.

14-inch display in a lightweight package

The Galaxy Chromebook Go is as lightweight as 14-inch notebooks get. It weighs 1.45kg and has a battery that can last for up to 12 hours on a single charge.

The device ships with a 45W USB-C charger and has two USB-C ports, one USB 3.1 port, a 3.5mm audio connector, and a microSD card slot.

Other specs include an Intel Celeron N4500 CPU with Intel UHD Graphics, a 720p HD camera, stereo speakers, Bluetooth 5.1, and Wi-Fi 6. You can check the links below for more information on the device, or if you want to join our social media channels and stay up to date with future Samsung news.

Samsung’s SoC manufacturing wastewater can now help Hyundai make steel

The global semiconductor shortage has created ripple effects throughout numerous industries, but it also poses a threat to the environment. Semiconductor demand is increasing amid the shortage, and manufacturers will eventually have to increase production rapidly. Right now, this is a cause of concern for the Ministry of Environment, but Samsung and SK Hynix are reportedly leading the charge in eco-friendly semiconductor manufacturing.

Churning out chipsets on the production line generates a lot of greenhouse gases and wastewater, so a rapid increase in manufacturing capacity has caused serious questions about the environmental impact. Thankfully, Samsung is already ahead of the curve, as it’s been working on an ingenious wastewater recycling system in collaboration with Hyundai Steel for about a year now.

Samsung repurposes semiconductor wastewater for steelmaking

Since August last year, Samsung, Hyundai Steel, and Steel Ceramic have been working together on a new technology that’s capable of recycling wastewater generated by semiconductor manufacturing. The wastewater is a major environmental issue, and the problem’s only bound to get worse as semiconductor production ramps up.

With that in mind, the idea is to use Samsung’s semiconductor wastewater for Hyundai’s steelmaking process, and according to recent news, the system that’s capable of performing this task received final approval from the Ministry of Environment in August this year.

“We will spare no effort in providing technical and administrative support for this,” said the Ministry of Environment via Green Economy Newspaper.

New Galaxy foldables help Samsung gain significant US market share in Q3

Although the global semiconductor shortage continues to cause difficulties for all OEMs, the US is showing signs of recovery. In Q3, the US smartphone market grew 1% year-on-year and 9% quarter-on-quarter, as more OEMs — including Samsung — were able to secure enough supply to boost shipments.

Samsung had a shipment market share of 30% a year ago, but by the end of Q3 2021, the company was able to increase that figure to 35%. Samsung was the 2nd largest smartphone vendor in the US behind Apple. The latter company maintained solid iPhone 13 sales.

LG’s exit from the smartphone market appears to have helped Motorola the most, suggests Counterpoint Research. Motorola is now the third-largest vendor in terms of shipment market share, followed by TCL and OnePlus.

Samsung is helped by Galaxy A32 5G and new-gen foldable phones

Samsung was able to gain a 5% US market share in Q3 and maintain a healthy second place, and was helped largely by the successful launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3. The new foldable flagships filled the empty spot left behind by the Galaxy Note series.

In the affordable smartphone market segment, Samsung was reportedly assisted by the release of the Galaxy A32 5G via T-Mobile and Metro. The phone was launched earlier this year, before the Galaxy Z 3 foldables were announced in August.

As of now, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3 are available in the USA at cheaper prices thanks to early Black Friday deals.

Telegram 8.2 update makes media library navigation a whole lot easier

The past few Telegram updates have been largely focused on improving the video call functionality of the app. Telegram 8.2, on the other hand, brings forth plenty of quality-of-life updates, both major and minor, that will make navigation a tad easier. This time around, the update is primarily focused on decluttering your media library. There are interactive emojis, too.

High-speed scrolling and Calendar View for shared media

Anyone using Telegram (or any instant messaging app) for a long time will, more often than not, end up with copious amounts of photos and images that they’ve shared over the years. Revisiting older photos can often be cumbersome and requires a lot of unnecessary scrolling. Telegram 8.2 automatically sorts your library by date in a calendar-like format. That allows you to jump to a specific date and view the media shared at that time.

If you need to go back quite a bit, let’s say, a few years, Telegram 8.2 will let you blaze past your shared media library with high-speed scrolling. All you have to do is pinch down the shared media tab a little and swipe away until you’ve reached your desired timeline. Lastly, one can also filter out unnecessary results by selecting what type of media needs to be displayed, i.e., photos and/or videos.

New Invite Link options

Until now, anyone could join a group/channel by clicking on an invite link, which worked as long as it was valid and not nullified by the group/channel creator. Telegram 8.2 adds a new step to that process by allowing admins to manually approve every join request. One can also preview the profile of potential members to filter out any bad elements. Additionally, admins can also sort their invite links by list, allowing them to track the origin of a user and limit the number of people that can join with the said link.

Some Telegram 8.2 features will be exclusive to iOS for the time being. You can now use the chat themes introduced via an earlier update globally. Most themes are customizable and have a ‘day’ and ‘night’ mode with different colour schemes. Android users will get this functionality via a later update. Lastly, Telegram 8.2 also gets some optimizations tailor-made for iOS 15, mainly centred around notched displays. The ‘Settings’ section gets a fresh coat of paint, too.
