Galaxy A32 5G and Galaxy A52 5G coming to AT&T, T-Mobile in the US

5G is going to be a lot more accessible this year thanks to Samsung, with the Korean giant making 5G variants of many of its more affordable Galaxy A series phones, such as the Galaxy A32, Galaxy A42 and Galaxy A52. The Galaxy A42 5G went official last year, and in the near future, we expect Samsung to take the wraps off the A32 5G and A52 5G. And today, we’ve learned that both the Galaxy A32 5G and the Galaxy A52 5G are on their way to North America.

T-Mobile and AT&T will carry the two 5G phones whenever they go official, though the US launch could happen a few weeks after the international debut, as is often the case for Samsung’s A series phones. The LTE variants will probably not be sold stateside, which would put the A32 and A52 in the same league as Samsung’s flagships. Both the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 lineups were launched only in 5G variants in the US, and we should see the same trend across most of Samsung’s smartphone repertoire going forward.

What specs can you expect from the Galaxy A32 5G and Galaxy A52 5G?

As for specs, the Galaxy A32 5G will naturally be the lower-end option. It is expected to feature a 6.5-inch Infinity-V display, the MediaTek Dimensity 720 processor, at least 4GB of RAM, a 48MP quad-camera setup, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and 15W fast charging (battery size is currently unknown). The A52 5G will have the Snapdragon 750G SoC (720G on the LTE variant), up to 8GB of RAM, a 64MP quad-camera setup at the back, and a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with an integrated fingerprint sensor.

The A52 5G might have only 15W fast charging support as the Galaxy A50 and A51, which is bound to upset some fans. However, it will be quite up-to-date on the software side of things as it will run Android 11 and One UI 3.0 out of the box. The Galaxy A32 5G will be running the latest software as well. It remains to be seen how many Android OS upgrades the two handsets will receive, but we can expect at least the A52 to get three of them before Samsung downgrades support to just providing security updates.

New Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 is the first to feature a QLED display

Samsung today unveiled the new Galaxy Chromebook 2. The company has been a major player in the Chromebook market since 2011. Its latest model is perhaps one of its best. It builds upon the premium experience offered by the first Galaxy Chromebook to offer a unique selling point.

The Galaxy Chromebook 2 is the world’s first Chromebook to feature a QLED display. We’ve seen this incredible display technology on many of Samsung’s products before. This is the first time that the company is bringing it to Chromebooks.

Samsung elevates Chromebooks with its QLED display technology

Powered by Google’s Chrome OS, the 2-in-1 Galaxy Chromebook 2 seamlessly integrates with both Galaxy and Google ecosystems. Google Assistant is built-in so users can accomplish a lot without even having to lift a finger. The new Chromebook works very well with Samsung’s Galaxy ecosystem as well. It connects seamlessly with other Samsung devices to enable you to make calls and send messages from your phone, tablet or laptop.

The biggest selling point of the Galaxy Chromebook 2 is its 13.3-inch QLED 1920×1080 pixel resolution touchscreen display. Any Univeral Stylus Initiative (USI) pen can be used on this display for drawing or scribbling. Samsung has also added a new lattice keyboard that has wider keycaps and bright backlighting to improve the typing experience.

There’s a 10th Gen Intel Core i3-10110U or Intel Celeron 5205U processor under the hood with up to 8GB of RAM, the configuration will vary by market. The new Chromebook will be available in 64GB and 128GB storage options with microSD support.

Chromebooks have long been regarded as work devices. The QLED display makes the Galaxy Chromebook 2 more suitable for entertainment as well, making it a viable option for a wider base of customers. To further drive this point home, Samsung has added 5W x 2 stereo speakers to the device with Smart AMP. It runs up to 178% louder than the average amplifier to provide an immerse audio experience.

Connectivity options include ultra-fast Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth v5.0. A 45.5Wh battery promises to provide all-day battery life. The Galaxy Chromebook 2 measures just 13.9mm thick. It will be available in Fiesta Red and Mercury Gray finishes. Pricing and availability information has not yet been confirmed.

[List] Galaxy devices that have received Android 11/One UI 3.0 update

Only four months after officially announcing the One UI 3.0 update, Samsung already brought its custom Android 11 implementation to quite a few of its Galaxy devices. At least compared to the pace of its Android 10-based One UI 2.x deployment efforts which have been ongoing until this very month. And assuming we’re counting Android 11 beta builds, which we are.

As Samsung is expected to begin ramping up the development and release of various One UI 3.0 iterations, this is a fine time for us to start keeping detailed tabs on that endeavor. This would primarily constitute tracking the exact lineups and models that have already been updated, as well as the order in which that happened.

We will be updating this list on a regular basis, so feel free to bookmark it if you’re eager to embrace Samsung’s latest mobile OS ASAP. Our definition of that term is about to change soon, anyway, seeing how the One UI 3.1 update is right around the corner.

In case your device isn’t on the following list just yet, here is when you can expect the Android 11 party to start on your end. Keep in mind that releases usually take at least several weeks before going fully global, with the possible exception of Samsung’s foldable smartphones.

With that said, you can download the latest system images from our firmware archives almost as soon as Samsung makes them available.

These new colors might be introduced for the Galaxy S21 trio after launch

Samsung is perhaps the most experienced at launching new color variants of its flagships weeks or months after they go on sale, and we had always expected the same would be the case for the Galaxy S21 lineup. And the latest tidbit from the rumor mill has revealed what those new post-launch color options for the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra might be.

According to Ishan Agarwal, Samsung will launch a red version of the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21+ sometime after the two phones hit retail stores. The Galaxy S21 Ultra, meanwhile, could get three new color variants: blue, bronze, and titanium. Since none of these have gone official yet, we can’t say what any of the additional color variants will look like, though we can expect them to be quite attractive based on what we have seen of the color options that will be available for the three Galaxy S21 models initially.

In case you haven’t kept up with previous rumors, the base Galaxy S21 model is expected to launch in pink, violet, gray, and white and the S21+ in violet, black, and silver. The Galaxy S21 Ultra is expected to have only two launch-day options (black and silver), which may be why Samsung is planning to introduce as many as three new colors for it. As usual, there’s a good chance these new colors will only be available in select markets. Samsung finally got color availability right with the Galaxy S20 FE, but it remains to be seen if the company will manage to do so for its upcoming flagship lineup as well.

Would you wait for the new color options to be announced before buying one of the Galaxy S21 models, or does a phone’s color not matter to you all that much? Let us know down in the comments!

Galaxy A50 gets January 2020 security update

The Galaxy A50 is joining a number of other Galaxy devices that have been updated with the January 2021 security patch. Samsung has rolled out a new update to the Galaxy A50 in multiple European countries. It is accompanied by firmware version A505FNXXS5BTLA and brings all the security fixes included in the January patch, which was detailed by Samsung earlier this week.

Security fixes are the only addition in the new firmware, which is to be expected as the Galaxy A50 only recently got updated to One UI 2.5 and received some new features in the process. And the A50 will stay on that version of Samsung’s software for another couple of months – according to the company’s official roadmap, its most popular mid-range phone of 2019 is scheduled to get Android 11 and One UI 3.0 sometime in April this year.

In any case, the January security patch is now available for the Galaxy A50, and if you own the phone, you can check if the update is available over the air from the device’s Settings » Software update menu. These rollouts are phased so you may or may not be able to download the update just yet, so be sure to check again in a few days. As usual, our firmware archive will have the full system images that you can use for manually upgrading your phone using a Windows PC.

There is hope for Galaxy S21 to be more affordable than Galaxy S20

The Galaxy S21 series will be officially unveiled next week, and Samsung is banking on a brand new design, improved cameras, and faster performance to catch people’s attention. The company is also trying to make the deal sweeter by reducing its flagship smartphones’ prices compared to their predecessors.

According to a South Korean media report, the Galaxy S21 will be priced at KRW 999,000 (around $915) in Samsung’s home country. That is lower than the Galaxy S20’s price, which was KRW 1,245,000 (around $1,140). The last time the company’s flagship was priced below KRW 1,000,000 was during the launch of the Galaxy S9.

The Galaxy S21+ and the Galaxy S21 Ultra will reportedly be priced at KRW 1,199,000 (around $1,100) and KRW 1,450,000 (around $1,326), respectively, in South Korea. In comparison, the Galaxy S20+ and the Galaxy S20 Ultra were priced at KRW 1,353,000 (around $1,237) and KRW 1,595,000 (around $1,458). There will also be a 512GB variant of the Galaxy S21 Ultra, and it could be priced at KRW 1,600,000 (around $1,464).

Looking at the current economic challenges that people are facing, Samsung has decided to allocate 60% of the whole Galaxy S21 series production to the Galaxy S21 (base model). This means that Samsung is expecting the Galaxy S21 to be the most popular phone in the series. The company has reportedly removed the charger and earphones from the box, used plastic back instead of glass, and reduced the screen resolution from QHD+ to Full HD+ to lower the prices.

Galaxy S20 Series Galaxy S21 Series
Base Model KRW 1,248,000 KRW 999,000
Plus Model KRW 1,353,000 KRW 1,199,000
Ultra Model KRW 1,595,000 KRW 1,450,000 (KRW 1,464,000 for 512GB)

Samsung could start accepting pre-orders for the Galaxy S21 series soon after its unveiling and launch it on 29 January 2021.
