You can already buy official Galaxy Note 9 cases

It’s not uncommon for case manufacturers to prepare their products even before an upcoming flagship has been officially announced. It often happens that official cases from the manufacturer itself become available from retailers a few days before the launch of the device. That’s what we’re seeing today for the Galaxy Note 9. You can already buy official Galaxy Note 9 cases from a retailer.

You can buy official Galaxy Note 9 cases from retailer MobileFun. It has listed the official Clear View Standing Case, Silicone Cover Case, LED View Cover Case and Protective Stand Cover Case from Samsung available for purchase. The cases are available in a variety of colors such as blue, white, lavender, brown, black and red. The prices for these cases range from $30 to $59.

This isn’t the first time that we’re getting a glimpse of the official accessories that will be available for the Galaxy Note 9. Multiple renders have been leaked online over the past few days which have revealed the cases that Samsung will offer with its upcoming flagship smartphone.

Samsung is going to unveil the Galaxy Note 9 in a couple of days. The special event will take place on August 9 in New York City. Samsung will confirm the pricing and release date for the handset at the event. The company recently put up a registration page for the Galaxy Note 9 on its website which essentially confirmed that the handset would be out on August 24.

Leaked Galaxy Note 9 marketing material confirms Bluetooth S Pen, camera AI features, and more

It’s one thing if everything about an upcoming phone gets leaked before Samsung can take the stage for the official unveil, but getting access to the marketing material that the company might use at the event is a different matter. And, sadly for Samsung, that’s exactly what has happened. Samsung already made a blunder by temporarily posting the official Galaxy Note 9 intro video, and leaked images are now confirming some of the rumored features of the device.

Galaxy Note 9 features confirmed in leaked images

These are clearly official pictures for highlighting some of the Galaxy Note 9’s features and functionality. The Bluetooth-enabled S Pen, which can act as a shutter for the camera app, control presentations, and more. is confirmed once again, and so is the Dual Aperture lens on the rear camera. Also confirmed are the new software tricks of the camera app to help users take better pictures, such as indicating when something blurs or someone blinks when the photo is being taken. Last but not the least, one image also reiterates the ability of the phone to turn into a desktop PC with the use of a USB Type-C to HDMI adapter, just like the Galaxy Tab S4.

Check out the images below and let us know what you’re looking forward to with the Galaxy Note 9!

Galaxy Note 9 Value Pack spotted online, but may not mean anything

The Galaxy Note 9 will be officially announced by Samsung in a couple of days, but thanks to endless leaks, we already know pretty much everything about the device. It doesn’t look like the leaks will stop there as more of them keep popping up online, taking away whatever little excitement is left in the Galaxy Note 9 announcement.

In a new leak, blurry images of a Galaxy Note 9 Value Pack have surfaced online. The pictures show a Galaxy Note 9 Value Pack box with many freebies inside. The alleged package includes a Galaxy Note 9 case, car charger, cable, wireless AKG headphones, and an unknown 3M item. Before you get too excited, this Value Pack could be just a review unit for bloggers. There are pictures and videos of a similar Galaxy Note 8 Value Pack that Samsung sent only to reviewers last year. Smartphone companies like OnePlus are also known to send such review kits to the media.

Galaxy Note 9 will come with many freebies

When Samsung offered freebies in the past, they were never included in the smartphone box. Depending on the region and the freebies, there was always a separate process to claim them. Not including promotional gifts in the smartphone retail package gives Samsung the flexibility to modify promotions at any time. It is doubtful Samsung will change that strategy anytime soon.

Whether Samsung offers a Galaxy Note 9 Value Pack to the customers or not, there is enough evidence to show the Galaxy Note 9 will come with many free gifts. Seemingly credible reports say that customers who pre-order a Galaxy Note 9 can get either a wireless AKG headphone or a Fortnite gaming pack. Customers can also apparently pay $99 to get both these items. On top of these promotions, you can also expect carriers to come up with lucrative Galaxy Note 9 deals to attract new customers.

Galaxy Note Fan Edition update brings August 2018 security patch

Yet another flagship Galaxy device is getting an update with the latest security patch in tow. The Galaxy Note Fan Edition has been updated in Malaysia with the August 2018 security patch. The update comes with build number N935FXXU3BRG4 and is the fourth such update for the device in Malaysia. It shows how Samsung hasn’t taken the Galaxy Note FE lightly in terms of security updates. And as a device for fans, it makes sense for the company to be putting some work into keeping it up-to-date.

Galaxy Note Fan Edition update

We don’t know if the new Galaxy Note FE update brings anything other the latest security fixes. With Samsung having released the August update for so many of its flagships so quickly, it’s possible this update also introduces some changes to the Game Launcher app, which is also part of the update for the Galaxy S9, Galaxy Note 8, and the Galaxy S8. As for the security patch, it comes with fixes for four critical Android OS vulnerabilities and 11 vulnerabilities that only affect Samsung’s software.

To see if the update is available for you, go into the Software update menu in the Settings app on your phone and tap Download updates manually. Alternatively, you can update by using the latest firmware from our firmware database.

Samsung’s market share in China tanked below 1% once again

It is no secret that Samsung is in a dire state in the Chinese smartphone market. In fact, the company has been struggling to retain its market share in most markets around the world, but the situation in China is particularly worse as the company’s market share dropped to negligible levels there. Samsung executives acknowledged this poor performance and vowed to fight back the declining fortunes in the world’s largest smartphone market.

Sadly, none of the efforts by Samsung to regain relevance in China seems to be yielding the desired results yet. According to a report from Strategy Analytics, the company’s market share in China tanked below 1% in Q2 2018. Samsung reportedly shipped a mere 800,000 units during the April-June quarter, resulting in a 0.8% market share and 12th rank in the Chinese smartphone market.

Down from 1.3% in Q1 2018

This is not the first time Samsung’s market share in China has fallen to such abysmal levels. Towards the second half of 2017, the company’s position in China had weakened dramatically, and its market share reportedly fell below 1% in Q4 2017. However, the company recovered slightly and managed to grab 1.3% market share in the first quarter of this year, primarily due to the initial sales of the Galaxy S9. These market share numbers look devastating when compared to the above 20% market share the company held a few years back.

As per the report, Huawei grabbed 27% market share and emerged as the largest vendor in China. Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi occupied the next three ranks, respectively. Carving out a niche market for itself in the premium segment, even Apple managed to grab an impressive 5.7% market share.

Verizon to offer BOGO deal on Galaxy Note 9 pre-orders

It’s not uncommon for carriers in the United States to entice customers with offers on flagship smartphones. Verizon appears to be gearing up to do the same in the near future. Customers who pre-order Galaxy Note 9 from Verizon will have the opportunity to take advantage of a BOGO or buy-one-get-one deal.

This has been revealed through the My Verizon app. The app has lifted the curtain on this promotion which will see the carrier offering the second unit for free to customers who pre-order the Galaxy Note 9.

Galaxy Note 9 pre-order deals

It’s always best to go through the fine print of such offers as there are certain conditions that customers should be aware of before they opt for the offer. Verizon’s Buy One Get One promotion for the Galaxy Note 9 will be available once pre-orders go live. That’s expected to happen later this week after Samsung unveils the Galaxy Note 9 on August 9.

While the app has revealed this promotion, it doesn’t provide any pricing or release information. That’s obviously going to be confirmed after the official event but reports suggest that the Galaxy Note 9 will be released on August 24.

The way BOGO deals work is that customers get monthly bill credits equal to the cost of the second device. They usually have to add a new line to their plan and are liable to pay off the device if they decide to cancel service before the time is up, that’s usually 24 months.

That’s likely how this BOGO deal will work for those who pre-order Galaxy Note 9 from Verizon. The carrier will provide more information about the deal once the handset is official. There may be other incentives for pre-order customers as well. They might include a Value Pack with a $299 pair of wireless noise-canceling headphones from AKG and $150 worth of in-game currency for Fortnite.

August 2018 security patch contents detailed by Samsung

Samsung started rolling out the August 2018 security patch for the Galaxy Note 8 and the Galaxy S9 four days ago. The company hadn’t even officially detailed the contents of this patch. It was also the first time in months that the company’s flagship devices were receiving the patch before budget and mid-range devices.

The company has now detailed the August 2018 security patch. It brings patches for dozens of vulnerabilities that were found in th Android operating system in addition to patches for vulnerabilities in Samsung’s own software.

August 2018 security patch

All of the fixes included in the Android Security Bulletin – Aug 2018 package from Google are present in this security maintenance release. It patches four critical vulnerabilities in the Android operating system in addition to dozens of high and moderate-risk vulnerabilities.

Also included in this security maintenance release are patches for 11 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items. These are the vulnerabilities that were discovered in Samsung’s own software. All of them have been fixed with this latest security patch.

Samsung will now get down to the business of rolling out the August 2018 security patch to compatible devices. It already got the ball rolling for flagship devices last week. Even the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ have started receiving it already.

It may not be long now before other compatible devices start receiving the latest security maintenance release. We’ll be sure to update you as and when that happens.
