PSA: DeX for PC works with Galaxy S9 and Note 9 on Android 10

With the Android 10 and One UI 2.0 update, Samsung’s DeX for PC solution supports the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9. Around five months ago, it was rumored that the 2018 flagships would receive support for Samsung DeX for PC, a feature that was introduced with the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+. That is indeed the case, and those using a Galaxy S9, S9+, or Note 9 can connect their phone to their Windows or Mac PC and use it in a desktop environment with just a USB cable.

DeX for PC is quite the useful tool – it’s great for getting work done on documents stored on your phone, playing mobile games with a keyboard and mouse for more accurate control, and dragging and dropping files from your computer to the phone and vice versa. Naturally, the DeX Pad is still the only solution for those who want to use their phone as a PC when they don’t have their laptop (or desktop computer) around, while DeX for PC is more for the times when you want to quickly access stuff on your phone or tablet in a convenient desktop interface.

You can download DeX for PC for Mac or Windows from the company’s official website. Simply fire up Samsung DeX after it’s installed and connect your phone to the PC to start using it. Also, in case you are wondering, you don’t need the stable Android 10 update before you can start using DeX for PC – it works with the Android 10 beta as well.

Samsung makes TVs truly bezel-less with the new Q950TS 8K TV

Following reports that Samsung would reveal a zero-bezel TV at CES 2020, the company has now revealed its flagship model for the year. The Samsung Q950TS 8K TV has a stunning, super-thin form factor with 8K resolution and surround sound audio.

Given its lack of bezels, the picture on the TV would appear as a disembodied moving image, similar to what you see with a projector. However, the obvious difference is that the moving image is being displayed on a very bright TV with excellent color reproduction.

Samsung Q950TS 8K TV has a 99% screen-to-body ratio

There isn’t really a frame around the TV which only measures 15mm thick, other than a small edge at the very bottom. This allows for a screen-to-body ratio of almost 99 percent compared to 95 percent that you get with most other TVs. Samsung calls it the Infinity Screen effect. No design compromises had to be made to achieve this bezel-less construction. The TV has a completely flat back panel so it can lay flush against a wall.

There’s really no 8K content out there to speak of which is why the Q950 features Samsung’s next-generation Quantum Processor 8K that has advanced artificial intelligence-based capabilities to upscale any content to 8K. Samsung is also working with YouTube to allow for streaming native 8K content on the TV.

The Q950 has speakers on every side of the display with sub-woofers in the back. The AI-based Object Tracking Sound+ software matches the movement of audio sound with the movement of objects on the screen for exceptional 5.1 channel surround sound.

Bixby is smarter on Samsung’s new TV series. For example, customers can tell it to create a calm atmosphere and Bixby will bring up a relaxing backdrop on the screen. Samsung is also integrating both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant in its 2020 QLED 8K series. A Digital Butler has been added to the Q950 as well which lets users control non-smart devices using infrared technology.

The Samsung Q950TS 8K QLED TV is being displayed at Samsung’s CES booth. It hasn’t confirmed pricing and availability information for this TV yet.

Samsung confirms launch date of the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Fold 2

Merely a day after a teaser was leaked online which revealed when Samsung’s next Unpacked event is going to take place, the company today officially confirmed the event date. It’s expected to unveil the Galaxy S11/S20 and the Galaxy Fold 2 at the event.

Samsung posted the same teaser on its official social media channels today, confirming that the next Galaxy Unpacked event will take place on February 11, 2020. The event will most likely take place in San Francisco, California.

Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Fold 2 launch date confirmed

This will be Samsung’s first flagship launch of the new year and expectations are already quite high for the Galaxy S11, which recent reports suggest may actually be called the Galaxy S20. We know that it’s going to bring some great camera enhancements and possibly even a high refresh rate display.

What’s more interesting for most people is the company’s second foldable smartphone. Samsung has all but confirmed that its next Galaxy Fold will have a clamshell design. Some photos of the device have even leaked online in recent weeks. The handset is likely going to cost under $1000 which means that the Galaxy Fold 2 will bring foldable smartphones within reach of a much wider audience than the original Galaxy Fold which cost $2,000.

Samsung is also going to unveil the Galaxy Buds+ at the event. There have been rumors that it might support active noise cancellation but there’s no concrete evidence to support the theory just yet.

As previously mentioned, the event will most likely take place in San Francisco, California. Samsung will be streaming the event live on its website. SamMobile will also be present at the event to bring you all of the latest news as it’s announced.

Galaxy Note 9 Android 10 update rolling out in India

Samsung has released the stable Android 10 update for Galaxy Note 9 owners in India. The update is rolling out for those who didn’t participate in the One UI 2.0 beta program, so it’s a public release that will be available for all Note 9 owners in the country. India is the second country to get the Android 10 update for the Note 9, following its debut in Germany.

The software version for both markets is the same: N960FXXU4DSLB, and the update includes the December security patch. Samsung seems to be taking it slow with the rollout for the Note 9’s Android 10 update compared to the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy S10 series, but it should pick up the pace in the next couple of days, as it was just three days ago that the update was made available in Germany.

If you own a Galaxy Note 9 and reside in India, you can download the update over the air by going into the Software update menu of the phone’s Settings app and tapping Download and install. For now, the update isn’t available over Samsung Smart Switch or our firmware archive, but we will let you know once that changes.
