Galaxy Tab S6’s Wi-Fi-only variant starts getting Android 11 update

Samsung released the Android 11-based One UI 3.1 update to the LTE variant of the Galaxy Tab S6 last week. The update was rolled out months ahead of Samsung’s own schedule, but the Wi-Fi only variant of the tablet was left out for some reason. Now, the Galaxy Tab S6’s Wi-Fi only variant seems to be getting the latest update as well.

The non-LTE variant of the Galaxy Tab S6 (SM-T860) is getting the Android 11-based One UI 3.1 update in Germany and the US. The latest software update, which carries firmware version T860XXU3CUB7, also includes the March 2021 security patch. The Galaxy Tab S6 was launched in 2019 with Android 9 Pie on board.

The update brings a refreshed UI design, improved stock apps, better performance, more Dynamic Lock Screen features, additional lock screen widgets, automatic switching of Galaxy Buds between various One UI 3.1 devices, Google Home smart controls, the ability to use the tablet as the second screen for a windows PC, keyboard sharing with a smartphone, improved Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls, and more.

One UI 3.1 features also include the ability to remove GPS location data while sharing images and Private Share. The update also includes all the Android 11 goodies such as one-time permissions, auto permissions reset, chat bubbles, dedicated media player widget in the quick settings section, a conversations section in the notifications area, and more emojis.

If you are a Galaxy Tab S6 user in Germany or the US, you can manually check for the update by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install. Alternatively, you can download the entire firmware from our firmware section and flash it manually on the device.

Galaxy A82 5G moves closer to launch as it gets Bluetooth certification

Samsung plans to launch a successor to the Galaxy A80 were revealed last year as the company had registered the Galaxy A82 name. Last week, the Galaxy A82 5G first appeared in Geekbench’s database, revealing its processor and operating system version. Now, the phone has moved closer to its launch as it has received Bluetooth certification.

The Galaxy A82 5G (SM-A826S) was found listed in Bluetooth SIG’s database as it received the certification earlier today. The phone features Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity with LE (Low Energy) compatibility. Not much else is mentioned in the certification document, so we will have to wait for more information to arrive in the coming weeks to know more about the smartphone. The phone will come equipped with the Snapdragon 855+ processor, which is a 2-year-old flagship from Qualcomm. It will also come with Android 11 out of the box.

It is still not clear if the Galaxy A82 will be available in a 4G LTE variant as well. Since the Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A72 feature high-refresh-rate Super AMOLED screens and quad-camera setups, we can expect those features to be present in the Galaxy A82 5G as well. It could even feature an improved camera, but it remains to be seen how it affects the sales of devices like the Galaxy S20 FE.

What are your expectations from the Galaxy A82 5G in terms of specifications and pricing? Let us know in the comments section below.

The WFA has approved a new Galaxy S20 FE variant running Android 11

Samsung is seemingly developing another Galaxy S20 FE variant. Clues of its existence have been found at the Wi-Fi Alliance where a new Galaxy phone carrying model number SM-G780G was approved last week. This is the first time for the SM-G780G model number to show up online, but what’s even more interesting is the fact that the device runs Android 11.

As many of you are aware, the Galaxy S20 FE and Galaxy S20 FE 5G are identified by model numbers SM-G780F and SM-G781B, respectively. Therefore, the SM-G780G model number should correspond to an LTE variant and it’s possibly meant for a few select markets.

The new variant probably won’t have too many differences compared to the ongoing models, given their similar model numbers, but it should ship with the latest version of Android out of the box.

Of course, existing Galaxy S20 FE owners can already download and install the Android 11-based One UI 3.1 firmware update, assuming they haven’t done so a couple of weeks ago when the update was resumed after it’s been pulled due to unforeseen issues.

Single and Dual-SIM variants are present

The mysterious new Galaxy S20 FE variants has gained not one, but a total of three approvals from the Wi-Fi Alliance for model numbers: SM-G780G, SM-G780G/DS, and SM-G780G/DSM. They confirm that the variant will be available with single and dual-SIM capabilities.

The Wi-Fi Alliance hasn’t revealed any other hardware details, so time will tell if and when this variant will hit the shelves, or if it will differ in any other ways compared to the original Galaxy S20 FE.

In the meantime, Samsung is reportedly developing a direct sequel called the Galaxy S21 FE which will run Android 11 out of the box.

Galaxy A50s Android 11 update launches a month ahead of schedule

Samsung started upgrading the Galaxy A50s to One UI 3.1 a full month ahead of schedule. Based on Android 11, the latest update for the 2019 mid-ranger started rolling out this past Sunday. Identified as release version A507FNXXU5DUB6, it was originally spotted in Vietnam and will gradually expand to more countries, as tends to be the case with Samsung’s OTA packages.

The timing of this release is at least one full month ahead of when Samsung’s roadmap says the Android 11 update for the Galaxy A50s was set to arrive. It’s also likely that this is One UI 3.1 we’re looking at, not the original 3.0 release.

Has the Galaxy A50s skipped One UI 3.0 entirely?

Mind you, this is an assumption based on the fact the Galaxy A50 recently started receiving One UI 3.1 and skipped 3.0 entirely, which we were able to confirm just several hours back. Speaking of which, the Galaxy A50’s jump to Android 11 was also expected to happen in April, but Samsung is clearly speeding things up.

This debut Android 11 build for the Galaxy A50s is packed with the March 2021 security update. That was be expected, considering the said security patch has been rolling out to a wide array of smartphones for about two weeks now. I.e., before March was even around. You can check whether the update is already available in your country by going to Settings » Software update » Download and install. Alternatively, our firmware archive holds mirrors of full system images containing the Android 11-based One UI 3.1 update and the March 2021 security patch for the Galaxy A50s.

ZENS Modular Series wireless charger review: Create your perfect setup

The folks at ZENS know a thing or two about making wireless chargers. We’re big fans of its Liberty Wireless Charger Glass Edition which offers great functionality while looking absolutely gorgeous. The company’s latest creation is something entirely different. It provides you with the flexibility to build your perfect wireless charging setup.

ZENS has created the Modular Series to provide the utmost flexibility to customers. They can mix and match the various modules to create a truly personalized setup. That all sounds good in theory but does it really work as advertised? This is what we’ll find out in our review.

ZENS Modular Series wireless charger review

At the heart of the Modular Series is a base station. There are three different options to choose from: A stand wireless charger, a single and a dual wireless charger. The base station is the only component that’s connected to a power outlet. You customize the setup using modules that magnetically attach to the base station and each other using pogo pins.

No matter what configuration you choose for your setup, bear in mind that only one base station can be used. So if you want to charge the most number of devices simultaneously, opt for €99.99 the dual wireless charger. It’s also the fastest in the lineup with two 15W chargers that have support for Samsung Fast Charge.

We also tried out the €69.99 vertical base station that also supports 15W charging and Samsung Fast Charge. The charging coil is positioned in such a way that your device can be charged both horizontally and vertically.

Use the €39.99 single wireless charger extension to expand your modular setup. Do keep in mind that it only supports 10W output. It does have a USB-C output at the back that can be used to plug-in another device for charging. You can have up to four of these modules attached to the base station.

ZENS offers a €34.99 USB hub module that can be used to charge any USB-A powered device. This module also has a USB-C output at the back to charge two devices simultaneously. You can connect four of these modules to the dual wireless charger base station to create a setup that can charge up to ten devices at the same time. The charging speeds would likely slow down at that level but it’s entirely possible to have almost a dozen devices being juiced up simultaneously.

This is the kind of accessory that makes you feel that your money was well spent. It’s clear in its purpose and does exactly what it claims to do. Oh, and in case you’re wondering why the charger appears to be dirty in our pictures, that’s actually how it looks like. ZENS has created the Modular Series from recycled plastics which is a great initiative on its own.

The only downside here would be that you can’t just place a Samsung Galaxy Watch model on a wireless charging module to charge it. Other than that, this is certainly an accessory that gives you exceptional value for money.

The One UI 3.1 update for the Galaxy M51 is now facing a global release

Samsung began rolling out the One UI 3.1 firmware update for the Galaxy M51 in Russia last week, and thankfully it looks like the initial release went on without a hitch, as Samsung is now bringing the same update to the Galaxy M51 in additional regions including Brazil, India, Mexico, and the Netherlands.

Same as before, the latest Android 11-based One UI 3.1 update for the Galaxy M51 can be identified by firmware number M515FXXU2CUB7. Likewise, the March 2021 security patch is included with this latest release, but the highlight is, of course, One UI 3.1 and all the new features it brings with it.

The One UI experience is reborn

As you would expect given that we’re talking about an M-branded mid-range phone, the latest firmware update introduces the ‘Core‘ version of One UI 3.1 as opposed to the full-fledged One UI package. One UI 3.1 Core was stripped down of some features, but on the bright side, users will have access to a more modern-looking user interface with new animations and redesigned home / lock screens.

Galaxy M51 owners in markets where One UI 3.1 Core is now rolling out should be able to download the new firmware by launching the Settings app on their phones, accessing Software update, and tapping Download and install. SamMobile readers can skip these steps by downloading the firmware from our archive and installing it on their phones manually using a Windows PC.

Galaxy A32 preview: High refresh rate on a budget

The Galaxy A31 came last year as an affordable mid-ranger with all the right specs for everyone who isn’t a gamer, owing to a not-so-powerful MediaTek processor that sat under the hood. This year’s Galaxy A32 is similarly powered by a MediaTek chip (the Helio G80), but Samsung has sprinkled a handful of upgrades that make the phone a lot more attractive than its predecessor.

The Galaxy A32 features a 90Hz Super AMOLED display, gets a higher-resolution main rear camera, and runs the latest version of Android (11) and One UI (3.1) out of the box. The high refresh rate display is the star attraction here, as it’s not a feature that’s very common outside of flagships. In Samsung’s case, high refresh rate panels have only been seen on flagships until now, and that makes the Galaxy A32 more special than the Galaxy A30 and Galaxy A31 could ever hope to be.

But can the Galaxy A32’s MediaTek chip handle pushing more frames per second at all times? The Helio G80 has the same GPU as the Helio P65 that powered the Galaxy A31, and while the clock speed of the GPU is higher on the former, is that enough to provide — and sustain — the benefits of a higher refresh rate?

Galaxy A32 hands-on

Well, I have mixed feelings after a day of using the Galaxy A32. The high refresh rate makes its presence felt when scrolling inside apps like WhatsApp and YouTube, but stutter is introduced when you start scrolling too fast. The notification shade, meanwhile, seems to be locked to 60Hz at all times, whether you’re scrolling through the notifications or the quick toggles.

Transition animations when you switch between apps or go to the home screen seem to be smooth for the most part, but again, there’s a bit of stutter every now and then. Still, the A32 feels smoother than any previous non-flagship Galaxy device, which is a substantial benefit that most customers will enjoy.

Most customers will probably like the phone’s design as well. The Galaxy A32 looks very cute in the blue paint job. Not having the camera sensors placed in an island is a breath of fresh air, and the lack of any fancy gradients is also a bonus in my book. Like the Galaxy A31, the Galaxy A32 isn’t very heavy despite featuring a 5,000 mAh battery, and thanks to the plastic back, this is a phone you can use without a case.

As for other aspects of the Galaxy A32, such as the cameras, software, overall performance, and battery life, I will only be able to offer a verdict in our full review, so watch out for that in the coming days. In the meantime, feel free to leave any questions you may have down in the comments section.

BREAKING: Galaxy A50 starts getting Android 11 update

After releasing the Android 11 update to its high-end and various mid-range smartphones, Samsung has started rolling out the Android 11 update to the Galaxy A50. The update also brings along the March 2021 security patch to the smartphone. We are still not sure if it is a One UI 3.0 or One UI 3.1 update.

The new software update for the Galaxy A50, which bears firmware version A505FDDU7CUBC, has a download size of 1,871.38MB. Apart from the refreshed UI design, the update also improves the performance of the Galaxy A50. The Android 11 update brings a dedicated conversations section in the notification area, a media player widget in the quick settings panel, chat bubbles, one-time permissions, permissions auto reset, and easier smart device controls to the phone.

Other features include improved Dynamic Lock screen, more lock screen widgets and AoD options, video backgrounds for calls, more options in Bixby Routines, improved Digital Wellbeing and Parental Controls, double-tap gesture to turn off the screen, improved camera autofocus performance, and improved stock apps.

It should be a staged software update rollout, which means not everyone will get the update at the same time. If you haven’t received the update yet, you can check for the update manually by navigating to Settings » Software update and then tapping on Download and install on your Galaxy A50.

New update brings March 2021 security patch to the Galaxy S20 series

Samsung first released the March 2021 security patch to the Galaxy Note 10 series. Later, the security patch was released to the Galaxy Fold, Galaxy Tab S7, and the Galaxy A8 (2018). The Galaxy S20 series received the March 2021 security patch in the US along with the One UI 3.1 update. Now, international variants of the Galaxy S20 are receiving the latest security patch.

The Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and the Galaxy S20 Ultra have started receiving the March 2021 security patch in various European countries, including Bulgaria, France, and Greece. The latest software update carries firmware version G98xxXXS6DUBA. Since it is just a security patch, the download size should be quite small.

Apart from Google’s own fixes to vulnerabilities in Android, Samsung’s March 2021 security patch brings fixes related to the Exynos 990 chipset. Other bug fixes and stability improvements could also be a part of the latest software update. The Galaxy S20 series started receiving the One UI 3.1 update last month.

We expect the new firmware to soon roll out in other markets as well. If you are a Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, or a Galaxy S20 Ultra user in one of the markets mentioned above, you should soon receive a notification for the update. If you don’t want to wait for the update to arrive on its own, you can manually search for the update by navigating to Settings » Software update and tapping on Download and install.
