Samsung Pay has processed transactions of 100 million euro in Spain so far

Samsung Pay is undoubtedly one of the best and most widely accepted mobile payments services out there. By acquiring LoopPay and integrating its patented MST technology into its smartphones and smartwatches, Samsung was able to roll out a service that quickly became popular in markets where it was launched.

More than two million transactions in Spain last year

Since its launch in various markets, Samsung Pay has been enjoying a high satisfaction rate among its users. In another instance of Samsung’s Pay’s growing popularity, the company has announced in a press release today that Samsung Pay has processed transactions of 100 million euro in Spain since its launch in 2016. Samsung says the service was used for more than two million transactions in Spain last year alone.

The press release also quotes a study conducted by IPSOS for Samsung, where 75% of the respondents were already aware of the mobile-based payment solutions and 56% of the respondents frequently use them for their simplicity and convenience. Even those 44% respondents who were unaware of mobile-payment solutions were willing to use once they were informed about them. The press release doesn’t make it clear if these numbers are specific to Samsung Pay or all mobile payment solutions in general.

According to Celestino García, Corporate Vice President of Samsung Spain, being able to use Samsung Pay is one of the reasons for 70% of the existing Samsung customers to buy Samsung products again. To further solidify its claim about the loyalty enjoyed by Samsung Pay, Samsung says 75% of the respondents who expressed a high satisfaction rate with the service attributed it to convenience and simplicity, while 74% of the respondents were willing to recommend the service to family and friends without any hesitation.

Unlike NFC based mobile payment solutions such as Android Pay and Apple Pay, Samsung Pay works with almost every PoS terminal that can accept your credit card or debit card. Samsung Pay achieves this universality by combining both patented MST technology and NFC service into a single intelligent payment solution. This makes Samsung Pay more widely accepted and easy to use, leading to its growing popularity and adoption.

Samsung updates Unpacked app for the Galaxy S9, adds a cool AR trick

Samsung sent out invitations to the press yesterday officially confirming that it’s going to announce the Galaxy S9 on February 25. The Galaxy S9 is likely going to be the only major flagship smartphone unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2018 next month if reports are to be believed.

As we await Samsung’s next Unpacked event, the company has updated its Unpacked app for the Galaxy S9 and it has added a cool augmented reality trick to it in the process.

Unpacked 2018 app has an AR trick

Samsung’s Unpacked 2018 app is available now. It’s counting down to February 25 when the Galaxy S9 will finally be unveiled. It’s similar in terms of the look to the invites Samsung sent out yesterday. You can download the Unpacked 2018 app from our APK page.

The app allows users to find out everything that they need to know about the upcoming event. Attendees can also register their username and password through the app to receive a QR code invitation that they can then use as an entry ticket on February 25.

There’s an AR button in the top right corner. Pressing it prompts you to scan any Samsung or Galaxy logo nearby. You can do that off of a product box or another device. It brings up the augmented reality version of the Unpacked 2018 venue in Barcelona.

We’ll be on the ground in Barcelona next month to bring you all of the updates from Unpacked 2018 live. Don’t forget to follow the Galaxy S9 launch event right here on SamMobile.

Galaxy S9+ case renders show the phone in silver and grey

It was in December last year that we reported about the possible color options Samsung will release the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ with. We’re expecting purple to finally make it to Samsung’s flagship line, after rumors of a violet Galaxy S8 didn’t turn into reality, with black, gold, and blue as seen on the Note 8 coming along for the ride. But renders from case maker Poetic suggest that, like the Galaxy S8, the S9 and S9+ will launch in grey and silver as well.

Does this mean that the purple or blue Galaxy S9 or S9+ will be launched as exclusives a few months after the phones go on sale? It’s possible, and if these colors do get announced alongside the black, gold, silver, and grey variants, Samsung could limit their release to a few markets. It’s also possible the case maker is playing it safe right now and doesn’t have a complete idea of the final Galaxy S9 colors, therefore putting up renders of the device in colors we saw on the Galaxy S8. Also, Poetic has only published renders of the Galaxy S9+, so another possibility is that the two variants of the phone will offer different color choices.

It certainly would fit with the current belief that Samsung will keep the dual rear camera exclusive to the S9+; maybe giving Galaxy S9 owners some unique color choices will somehow ease their contention with getting lesser features? We’ll have to wait to find out, and with the official announcement date now revealed by Samsung, more information should be making its way online as we inch closer to the Galaxy S9’s launch.

Leaked video allegedly shows Galaxy S9 dummy unit

In what is the first Galaxy S9 leak after Samsung officially announced the date on which its next flagship will be unveiled, a video has cropped up on Weibo, purportedly showing a dummy unit of the smaller of the two Galaxy S9 variants. The dummy unit has a single rear camera with the fingerprint sensor positioned underneath, just like it’s supposed to according to earlier leaks and rumor, but there’s no way to tell if it’s a true representation of the retail version of the Galaxy S9.

Leaked video allegedly shows Galaxy S9 dummy unit

The dummy unit seems to be slightly thicker (and wider?) than the Galaxy S8, but the video isn’t clear enough for us to be sure. There’s a chance this could also be a Galaxy S9 clone, which are already making the rounds, or perhaps this is exactly how the S9 will look. With Samsung attempting to “reimagine the camera” with its upcoming flagship, that single rear camera on the S9 is a sign that the company is finally going the Apple route and keeping some of the goodies exclusive to the bigger variant of its new flagship. This video may just confirm some of the recent leaks on that front.

Of course, that’s if this video indeed shows a dummy unit that’s a close representation of the final product, but we’ll need more info to get a clearer picture. Check out the video below, and let us know what you think. Also check out what we expect to see on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+.
