We can now be sure of a 4GB RAM Galaxy A21s variant existing

Another day, and the Galaxy A21s gets another opportunity to hit our headlines. Today we came across some information regarding the Galaxy A21s launch in Russia, where the phone is seemingly planned to hit the shelves with 3GB as well as 4GB of RAM.

The Galaxy A21s has been leaked extensively over the past few weeks, but it looks like the phone still has, or at least had some secrets left. There was no mention of another RAM configuration for the Galaxy A21s up until now in any of the previous leaks, although the existence of a 4GB RAM / 64GB storage variant is not at all surprising. The Galaxy A20s was released with 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB of memory, so it was logical to assume that the Galaxy A21s would follow a similar path.

Nevertheless, we came across the new 4GB RAM / 64GB storage variant in Samsung Russia’s own promotional material, so if there was any doubt about the possibility of a variant with 4GB of RAM, it has now been dispelled. Evidently, we don’t expect the Galaxy A21s with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage to remain exclusive to Russia, and this memory configuration will likely be released in many other regions either on the phone’s first day on the market or later down the line. The Galaxy A21s is expected to be officially introduced by the end of May.

Galaxy Note 20 series could have 16GB of RAM as standard

One of the ways in which Samsung might want to differentiate the upcoming Galaxy Note 20 from the existing Galaxy S20 series could be through fitting the S Pen flagship with more RAM. According to a bit of information shared in a recent Q&A session by DSCC CEO Ross Young, the Galaxy Note 20 series could have 16GB of RAM as standard. Check the timestamped YouTube Q&A video below.

This would reportedly be true for both the Galaxy Note 20 base model as well as the Galaxy Note 20+. Up until now, we’ve heard a lot of rumors about how these two variants will differ, from the size of batteries to the size and resolution of the displays, their refresh rates, and backplane technology.

Samsung is already mass-producing 16GB LPDDR DRAM

The only Galaxy S20 model that boasts 16GB of RAM is the Ultra 5G with 512GB of built-in storage. Now, the Galaxy Note 20 series is expected to launch in LTE and 5G flavor, so it’s unclear whether 16GB of RAM would be reserved for the 5G models or if it would be the standard across the board, regardless of connectivity.

Samsung began mass-producing 16GB LPDDR5 DRAM chips for mobile devices back in February. These chipset have already been used by the aforementioned Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G, so it’s possible that Samsung may have increased its production output over the past few months in anticipation of the Galaxy Note 20 series.

We’re still a few months away from the upcoming flagship’s reveal, so only time will tell if this latest bit of information turns out to be correct. If it does and the Galaxy Note 20 will have 16GB of RAM as standard, the flagship could become a multitasking monster.

Galaxy Note 20 may offer much better fingerprint tech than Galaxy S20

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20 series may be the first smartphone range capable of reading two fingerprints simultaneously, according to a known industry insider. The Korean manufacturer is said to be on the verge of commercializing 3D Sonic Max, the latest version of Qualcomm’s in-display biometric reader spanning an area 17 times bigger compared to the 3D Sonic Sensor first implemented into the Galaxy S10 family. This particular technology was already expected to feature in the Galaxy S20, though that didn’t come to pass.

However, Samsung may finally be ready to commercialize 3D Sonic Max with the Galaxy Note 20 line, as claimed by DSCC CEO Ross Young, a source of several recent reports about the upcoming phablet. The industry analyst revealed the new information in this week’s Q&A session that can be viewed below.

Galaxy Note 20 still on course for a summer 2020 release

By covering a larger display area, 3D Sonic Max should ensure the Galaxy Note 20 offers a biometric authentication solution that’s both more secure and convenient to use. Other than that, Young reiterated his recent claims about the Galaxy Note 20+ utilizing an LTPO backplane, consequently boasting a much more efficient and official support for variable refresh rates than what the Galaxy S20 series offered.

The Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20+ remain on course to launch this summer, with recent reports pointing to an August announcement. Their official unveil may even happen alongside the Galaxy Fold 2’s debut, though Samsung itself is still said to be deciding on how exactly it wants to play that out.

May 2020 security patch reaches unlocked Galaxy Note 9s in the US

The unlocked variants of Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 are now in the process of receiving the latest Android security update dated May 1st, 2020. Identified by firmware version number N960U1UES4DTD1, the new software package contains no other additions and should soon become available for download on all eligible devices.

If you haven’t already receieved a notification prompt detailing the update, you can attempt to trigger the installation manually from the Settings app on your Galaxy Note 9. Alternatively, visit SamMobile’s firmware archive to download an image of the May 2020 security update for use with Odin.

Still no One UI 2.1 for the Galaxy Note 9

In the meantime, owners of the unlocked Galaxy Note 9 models are still waiting for their One UI 2.1 update. While Samsung and its carrier partners already pushed out Android 10 to the stylus-equipped smartphone, the device has yet to receive the very latest Android implementation from the manufacturer.

According to report last week, that particular OS upgrade is planned for a June release. Meaning the wait for One UI 2.1 won’t be too long considering Samsung’s developers only started working on this Galaxy Note 9 firmware package last month.

As for the firmware update at hand, the May 2020 security patch began hitting unlocked Galaxy Note 9 variants using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 almost simultaneously with the release of its counterpart intended for the Exynos versions of the smartphone. Likewise, its Galaxy S9-series peers are now receiving the same security improvements as well.

Samsung making TVs more accessible to the visually impaired – for free

Samsung intends to make television more accessible to visually impaired audiences, starting with a brand-new initiative set to take place by the end of this year. The electronics giant entered into a new partnership with the Korea Communications Commission, vowing to deliver 15,000 smart TV sets to consumers in the Far Eastern country suffering from some degree of visual impairment. What’s more, it plans to do so free of charge, solely with government backing. Samsung won’t be procuring specialized televisions for the occasion but was instead selected due to its existing focus on TV accessibility features.

As for who exactly will be eligible to benefit from the new program, that will be up to the Viewers Media Foundation. The said organization will provide Samsung with a list of beneficiaries in the coming months, the duo revealed Wednesday. A particular focus will be placed on visually impaired people from lower income brackets, i.e. those who would be more likely to struggle with procuring a contemporary TV in the first place.

Samsung doubling down on TV accessibility features

All of the eventual beneficiaries will receive Samsung’s newest 40-inch FHD TVs, the manufacturer said. Those are equipped with voice guides, screen magnification capabilities, varied color inversion support for color-blind users, and even a dedicated Braille button on compatible remotes. Customizable captions complete their accessibility feature sets, with many of those functionalities also existing in older smart television sets from the company.

Samsung’s newly announced initiative is just the latest step in the company’s TV promotional efforts revolving around eye health. Several weeks back, the tech juggernaut successfully obtained eye safety certificates for its latest QLED TVs from the world’s leading authorities in the field.

Samsung launches its 2020 8K QLED TVs in Australia

Samsung unveiled its new 8K QLED TV lineup at CES 2020 earlier this year. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and related lockdowns, the company couldn’t launch them in time. After launching new 8K TVs in South Korea, the Netherlands, and the US, the South Korean electronics giant has finally launched them in Australia. You can buy these TVs from Samsung’s website, Samsung stores, and retailers across the country.

New 8K QLED TVs from Samsung’s 2020 lineup is now available in Australia. The company’s entry-level 8K QLED TV model (65-inch Q800T) costs AUD 6,199, and the most premium TV (85-inch Q950T) goes up to AUD 21,999. The Q800T model comes in three sizes: 65-inch, 75-inch, and 82-inch. The more premium, Q950T TV series is available in three sizes—65-inch, 75-inch, and 85-inch—as well. While TVs in both Q800T and Q950T series mostly have a similar design, only the latter features a completely bezel-less design.

Samsung’s new 8K QLED TVs feature 8K AI upscaling through the Quantum Processor 8K chipset, HDR10+, HLG, more local backlight dimming zones, wide viewing angles, and adaptive brightness. They also come with built-in 4.2.2-channel speakers with 70W output, Object Tracking Sound+, Q-Symphony, and Bluetooth 4.2 audio. Other features include AMD FreeSync, Ambient Mode+, One Remote Control, No Gap wall mount, One Invisible Connection, AirPlay 2, Alexa, Bixby, Google Assistant, HomeKit, Multi View, and SmartThings.

Hass Mahdi, Director of AV at Samsung in Australia, said, “Our latest QLED 8K range is designed with an Infinity Screen, which provides a fresh, new take on a TV form factor that is sure to impress those seeking the very best that Samsung has to offer. The Q950T QLED 8K is the marquee television in Samsung’s 2020 range and is the ultimate in our big-screen innovation and design.

Galaxy S10 5G getting May 2020 security patch on Verizon, Sprint

Verizon and Sprint are rolling out a new firmware version to Galaxy S10 5G devices on their networks. The software package contains Samsung’s Android security update for May 2020. The deployment began yesterday, meaning owners of eligible Galaxy S10 5G models should receive an update notification shortly, if they haven’t already. Alternatively, you can download Sprint (G977PVPS4CTD5) and Verizon’s (G977UVRS4CTD5) latest builds from SamMobile’s firmware archive if you’re eager to flash them manually via a Windows PC.

Save for carrier-specific versions of the security patch dated May 1st, 2020, the new software contains no other novelties. As per usual, it’s recommended you download the update over a stable Wi-Fi connection and make sure your device is either charging or has plenty of battery life left prior to starting the installation to avoid any potential complications.

Another swift Galaxy S10 5G update from Sprint

The Galaxy S10 5G is currently in its second year of after-sales support, meaning its users have at least one more major Android upgrade to look forward to. Following its merger with T-Mobile, Sprint elevated its support for the device, becoming the first telecom giant in the United States to bring One UI 2.1 to the device back in April.

On the downside, the variants of Samsung’s seminal 5G smartphone bought from Sprint will eventually lose 5G connectivity, precisely because of that very same corporate tie-up, i.e. the infrastructural changes it warrants. In the meantime, T-Mobile’s own Galaxy S10 5G models appear to be an afterthought as they haven’t been updated since mid-March.

Galaxy smartphone users randomly losing Dark Mode in Google app

Google introduced the system-wide Dark Mode feature with Android 10 last year, and started integrating it into most of its apps since then. While the Google app received Dark Mode long ago, the feature has been breaking for some Galaxy smartphone users over the past few days.

Many people have started complaining of Dark Mode not working in Google and Google Assistant apps on Samsung smartphones running Android 10. This problem is appearing even when the Dark Mode theme is activated. The bug appears to have crept up after the latest update. OnePlus users seem to be facing a similar problem, but the app is behaving properly on Pixel phones.

Dark Mode in the Google app seems to be broken on our Galaxy A70s, which has the latest version of the app. A few users are now reporting that the problem has been fixed, but it is still broken on our Galaxy phones. It could either be a problem with the app itself, a server-side switch, or a combination of both.

We will just have to wait for Google to fix this bug. Have you faced this problem on your Galaxy device (running One UI 2.0) as well? Let us know in the comments section below.
