Galaxy J6 inches closer to launch as official support pages surface online

The Galaxy J6 was one of the many unannounced Galaxy device codenames and model numbers spotted in the leaked Galaxy Note 8 Oreo firmware earlier this year. Since then, the device has been spotted on benchmarking websites, at the Wi-Fi Alliance, and at the FCC, confirming its existence and impending launch. Now, indicating Samsung’s preparations for the launch, support pages for the Galaxy J6 have been spotted on the company’s website in India and Ukraine.

Galaxy J6 will sport an Infinity Display

The support pages don’t reveal anything about the Galaxy J6, but we already know some of the details about the device from earlier leaks and certifications. The FCC documents revealed that the Galaxy J6 would sport an Infinity Display and run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box (which was also confirmed by the Wi-Fi Alliance certification). While we cannot take benchmark listings at face value, according to one of them, the Galaxy J6 will be powered by an Exynos 7870 chipset and 2GB of RAM.

Samsung has been working to bring the Infinity Display to mid-range and budget devices. The Galaxy A8 and A8+ launched earlier this year were the first non-flagship Galaxy smartphones to sport Infinity Displays. Samsung continued the trend by bringing the Infinity Display to the cheaper Galaxy A6 and A6+, which are also rumored to launch as the Galaxy J8 and J8+ in some markets. If that doesn’t happen, then the Galaxy J6 may be the first Galaxy J series model to boast an Infinity Display. However, given the cut-throat competition in the budget segment from Chinese OEMs, it is doubtful that an infinity Display alone will help Samsung in arresting its downslide in key markets.

New Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ update said to fix call issues

Samsung is rolling out a new Galaxy S9 update that users say fixes the call issues the company’s latest flagships have faced since launch. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ received an update with the April 2018 security patch late last month, but a separate update is now rolling out with call stability improvements. The new update shares its changelog with a previous one, but users are reporting that the problems they were facing with calls really have gone away for good this time.

Galaxy S9 update fixes call issues at last

For those unaware, the calling issues that have forced Samsung to release two software updates within a short span of time have been widely reported by owners of the S9 and S9+ across the globe. The Galaxy S9 or S9+ can mute the voice of the S9 user for up to 20 seconds at random during voice calls, and calls also suffer from distortion that makes it hard to understand what the other party is saying. These issues were severe enough for a lawsuit to be filed against Samsung in Israel for being unable to offer a fix and continuing to sell these devices in the market, and while that lawsuit may not be dropped because of the software update, it’s good to see Samsung finally rolling out a solution.

The new update – build number G960FXXU1ARD4 and G965FXXU1ARD4 for the S9 and S9+ respectively – is rolling out in various countries at the moment, but it could be a while before it’s rolled out to all Galaxy S9 and S9+ users, especially if they only just received the last update with the April security patch. Speaking of security patches, the latest update doesn’t include security patch for May, which isn’t surprising as Samsung’s flagship phones don’t usually receive the latest security updates so quickly and the company hasn’t even officially announced the May 2018 patch yet.

To check if the update is available for your phone, open the Settings app, tap Software update, then tap Download updates manually. We also have the complete firmware available in our database, which you can use to update through a PC if you can’t download the update through the phone. Once you’ve updated, do let us know if you are able to make calls without problems.

Galaxy S10 launch date will reportedly be in January 2019

A new report claims that the Galaxy S10 launch date will be set for January 2019. It’s not unusual to hear reports suggesting that Samsung might launch its next flagship smartphone ahead of schedule. That’s actually what it did this year for the Galaxy S9 which was unveiled about a month before the Galaxy S8 was last year.

However, this isn’t the average early launch rumor. Samsung might have to unveil the Galaxy S10 in January next year because one of its most anticipated smartphones might finally be launched in early 2019.

Galaxy S10 launch date

South Korean news outlet The Bell reported today that Samsung has asked its parts suppliers to start supplying components for its much-rumored foldable smartphone this November. The report adds that this handset is going to be launched early next year, possibly at the Mobile World Congress 2019.

The Galaxy S9 was launched on the eve of MWC 2018 and one would have expected the company to stick with the same timeframe for its 10th anniversary flagship. That might not be the case next year if the foldable smartphone is to be launched in Barcelona. Samsung wouldn’t want one handset stealing the spotlight from the other so it would make sense to launch the Galaxy S10 and the foldable smartphone a month apart.

The company is reportedly going to start sourcing parts for its 10th anniversary flagship which is expected to bring many new features by this October. So when might the Galaxy S10 launch date be in January 2019? The report claims that Samsung is likely going to launch the Galaxy S10 at the Consumer Electronics Show, the biggest tech trade show in the world. CES 2019 will be held in Las Vegas from January 8-11.

Samsung hasn’t used the CES stage to launch new flagship smartphones in recent years. It does make an appearance at the trade show but largely focuses on other consumer electronics products like home appliances.

Launching the two hotly anticipated handsets a month apart does make sense on paper but take this information with a grain of salt for now. It’s still far too early to be sure of Samsung’s Galaxy S10 launch plans.

Samsung envisions its foldable smartphone as a ‘Winner’

We exclusively revealed three years ago that Samsung is working on a foldable smartphone codenamed “Project Valley.” There have been a lot of rumors and reports about the device since then and while Samsung is yet to officially launch this handset, it appears that the company believes that this handset is going to be a “Winner.”

According to a new report out of South Korea, Samsung has renamed its foldable smartphone project. It’s no longer referred to as Project Valley internally. The report claims that Samsung now refers to its foldable smartphone project as Winner.

Samsung might launch it at MWC 2019

Samsung had said late last year that it was looking to launch the foldable smartphone in 2018 but that hasn’t happened so far. The company is yet to confirm when this much-awaited device will be out but it did say two months ago that its foldable smartphone is not going to be a gimmick.

Samsung mobile division CEO DJ Koh revealed that the company has been making progress on the device and that it will only deliver the handset when its confident that it will deliver the best user experience.

Some industry watchers believe that the decision to change the codename means that Samsung is now moving beyond the development stage and has made up its mind to release the handset. The company has reportedly informed its suppliers to start supplying components for the device from this November. If that is accurate then we should expect the Samsung foldable smartphone to be launched early next year, possibly at the Mobile World Congress in February 2019.

The company is said to make between 300,000-500,000 units of this handset initially to see the market response. If there’s demand for the handset it would then ramp up production. The report also claims that it’s going to be an in-folding smartphone with three 3.5-inch OLED screens two of which will be inside and one on the outside.

No word as yet on how much Samsung is going to charge for this device and which markets will be the first to get it.
