Top 4 VPN deals of this month

What is a VPN? In simple terms, VPN stands for ‘Virtual Private Server’ which can allow a user to receive and send data across public or shared networks as if they were connected to a private network. In other words, you can browse and download files anonymously on the world wide web without fear of your IP address being traced.

There are many reasons to use a VPN. It can help access websites that are region-locked; VPN software can spoof your location and allow you to choose any desired country from its list of proxies. This can then allow you to access the website which you previously had trouble connecting to.

A good VPN can also prevent your local ISP and other users on your shared network from accessing your browsing data, keeping you away from prying eyes. To help you get the best deal on a VPN service, we’ve put together a list of the top four VPN deals available online.

  • Provides a 31-day money-back guarantee.
  • Has ultra-high speed connections.
  • Allows P2P sharing of torrent files at high speeds.

Samsung releases February 2019 security patch for the Galaxy J6+

Samsung has released an update with the February 2019 security patch for the Galaxy J6+ in Germany. The J6+ is the first device to be receiving this month’s security patch, and it comes right on the heels of Samsung detailing the new patch on its security bulletin website. The update has been rolling out since February 6 and, in addition to enhanced security, it increases stability of the camera. The software version accompanying the update is J610FNXXU1ASA2.

Samsung often releases new security patches for devices before even Google has published details of a new patch, but that hasn’t happened this year. It’s possibly the workload the company’s software engineers have in preparing Android Pie for many devices. The J6+ itself will be among the first budget phones to get Pie once Samsung has released the update for Galaxy A series phones like the Galaxy A6 and the Galaxy A8 (2018).

Galaxy J6+ owners in Germany should be able to update over the air by tapping the Download updates manually option in the Settings » Software update menu on the device. You can also download the firmware for the newest update from our database and flash it on your phone using a Windows PC.

Samsung might offer free Galaxy Buds with Galaxy S10 pre-orders

Samsung is scheduled to launch the Galaxy S10 lineup at the Unpacked event on the 20th of this month in San Francisco. Even before the official announcement, a lot of information about the upcoming devices has already been leaked, leaving the Korean company with very little to surprise at the event.

Thanks to the source code of Samsung Russia’s Galaxy S10 teaser page, we now have details about the flagship’s pre-order promotion and release date as well. A line in the source code reveals that Samsung will offer free Galaxy Buds with Galaxy S10 pre-orders in Russia. The same page also mentions the pre-order period as February 20 to March 7, which is in line with the March 8 release date reported previously.

The free Galaxy Buds promotion may not available in all the markets

We have seen Samsung coming up with different pre-order offers in different markets in the past, so there is no guarantee that this free Galaxy Buds promotion will be available in all other regions. Nevertheless, it is safe to presume the pre-order period and the offer will be applicable to at least a few other markets around the world.

The Galaxy Buds are not yet released and are expected to be launched alongside the Galaxy S10 at the Unpacked event. Going by the previous models, they are expected to cost around $200 at launch, which translates to a sizeable discount for those pre-ordering the Galaxy S10. The devices also make a good combination as a recent pictured revealed that the Galaxy S10 can wirelessly charge the Galaxy Buds with its PowerShare reverse wireless charging feature.

Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) price in India cut once again

Samsung launched the Galaxy A9 (2018), the world’s first smartphone with four rear cameras, in India in November last year. Launched for ₹36,990 ($520), the smartphone was a great deal for the price. However, soon after the launch, Samsung reduced the price of the device by ₹3,000, bringing it down to ₹33,900 ($470).

The company has now further reduced the Galaxy A9 (2018) India price by another ₹3,000. After the new price cut, the quad-camera smartphone retails for ₹30,999 ($434) in the country. Interested customers can buy it from Amazon.

Frequent price drop hints at a new device

Samsung recently launched the Galaxy A8s, its first smartphone with Infinity-O display, as the A9 Pro in South Korea. The frequent price drop of the Galaxy A9 (2018) hints that the company may soon launch the Galaxy A9 Pro in India. The device is priced at 599,500 won (roughly ₹37,990 or $534) in Samsung’s home country.

The company also has nine more Galaxy A devices in the works, of which at least three will be launching in India soon. The Galaxy A10, A20, and the A30 are expected to hit the Indian market by the end of the first quarter.

Samsung seems to be extremely focused on delivering great camera phones lately. The company followed-up the Galaxy A7 (2018), which had a triple-camera setup at the back, with the Galaxy A9 (2018). Samsung’s latest budget offerings in India, which start at just ₹7,990, also offer an ultra-wide camera at the back. Samsung is also reportedly working on a smartphone with pop-up front camera.

As for the Galaxy A9 (2018), it gets a 24MP primary camera, a 10MP telephoto lens for 2x zoom shots, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 5MP depth sensor for bokeh/Live Focus shots. Check out our Galaxy A9 (2018) review here.

Galaxy J2 Core and Galaxy J4 certified with Android Pie

The Galaxy J2 Core and the Galaxy J4 have been certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance running Android Pie. This doesn’t mean the update will actually be arriving soon for these devices. The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 had received Wi-Fi certification with Pie back in November last year and are yet to get the official update. Moreover, Samsung’s Android Pie roadmap currently says the Galaxy J2 Core and Galaxy J4 Core will get Pie in April, so the company probably isn’t too close to completing work on the new software just yet.

Of course, the important question is whether the J2 Core will One UI. It most likely will, as Samsung’s Android Go phones run the company’s Experience UX instead of stock Android. This also means the wait for such updates will be longer for the J2 Core and other Android Go Galaxy smartphones compared to Android One smartphones. Of course, Google hasn’t inspired much confidence when it comes to major updates for Android One phones, as only one Android One smartphone seems to have been updated with Pie till now.

Samsung is also working on bringing Pie to some other budget phones, such as the Galaxy J6+, in April. As usual, these timelines shouldn’t be taken as 100 percent confirmation, even though Samsung has been pretty quick with the Android Pie update and is actually working on bringing Pie to many devices earlier than it had initially planned.

Canary Yellow Galaxy S10e renders show exclusive color option

We were the first to report last year that the cheapest Galaxy S10 model will be the only one that gets the Canary Yellow color. Today, purported Canary Yellow Galaxy S10e renders have appeared online, potentially giving us our first look at the exclusive color option.

Samsung will not be offering this color for any other Galaxy S10 model. If the renders are accurate, it appears at first glance that this could be a polarizing option. Some might like it and others might detest it.

Canary Yellow Galaxy S10e breaks cover

It’s already known that the Galaxy S10e will be the cheapest Galaxy S10 model. It will have a 5.8-inch flat Infinity-O display and a dual rear camera. The device will have a side-mounted fingerprint sensor since the in-display sensors are only for the Galaxy S10 and S10+.

To keep costs low, Samsung will only be offering the Galaxy S10e in just one configuration which includes 6GB RAM + 128GB storage. It will, however, have the same Exynos/Snapdragon processor as the others.

The Canary Yellow seems to be a bit too yellow for my liking. The weird yellow hue in the background is suspect as well since renders have crisp white backgrounds. There could be a couple of reasons for that. Either the images are not an accurate representation of the final product or the original source images are very low resolution and have been slightly tweaked by the leaker. Personally, I’m a bit skeptical about this.

If yellow is not to your liking, don’t worry, the Galaxy S10e will also be available in green, white and black colors at launch as well. The handset is going to be unveiled on February 20 in San Francisco. Samsung may start taking pre-orders for the Galaxy S10 the following day. Reports suggest that the Galaxy S10e will be priced at 779 euro or $880.

What’s your impression of the Canary Yellow Galaxy S10e based on these renders? Would you be willing to buy it if it looks like this?
