First Galaxy Tab S7 press render appears in a new leak

Samsung will likely take the wraps off its new high-end tablets—Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7+—soon. We had exclusively leaked the specifications of the tablets yesterday, revealing that they will come equipped with the Snapdragon 865+ processor that Qualcomm unveiled two days ago. Today, the first image of the Galaxy Tab S7 has been leaked.

Prominent leakster Evan Blass published the first image of the Galaxy Tab S7 on his Patreon account earlier today. The image showcases the tablet’s design from the front and the default wallpaper. The front-facing camera and two unknown sensors are visible in the leaked image. The power and volume buttons can also be seen.

Galaxy Tab S7, Tab S7+ specifications

The Galaxy Tab S7 and the Galaxy Tab S7+ will sport 11-inch and 12.4-inch Super AMOLED screens, respectively. The tablets will run Android 10 with One UI 2.5 out of the box. They will be equipped with the Snapdragon 865+ chipset, 6GB/8GB RAM, 128GB/256GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot. A Bluetooth-enabled S Pen will also be a part of the package.

Similar to the Galaxy Tab S6, the Galaxy Tab S7 and the Galaxy Tab S7+ will feature a 13MP+5MP dual-camera setup on the rear. At the front, the tablets will have an 8MP selfie camera. Samsung plans to offer both cellular and Wi-Fi only variants of its upcoming tablets. In some markets, the Galaxy Tab S7+ will also come in a 5G variant with support for sub-6GHz 5G.

The Galaxy Tab S7 series will have an in-display fingerprint reader, but we’re not sure if it will be an optical reader or an ultrasonic one. The Galaxy Tab S7 will be powered by a 7,760mAh battery, while the Galaxy Tab S7+ will be powered by a 10,090mAh battery and it could come with support for 45W fast charging.

Galaxy Buds Live leaks in three colors ahead of launch

The first reports about bean-shaped wireless earbuds from Samsung started coming in three months ago. Last month, we had exclusively reported that Samsung will launch its new earbuds in July alongside the Galaxy Watch 3. Today, the first set of Galaxy Buds Live images was leaked.

The first press renders of the Galaxy Buds Live were posted by noted leakster Evan Blass (@evleaks) on his Patreon account. He shared images of the earbuds and their case. The first image shows the Galaxy Buds Live from up close, while the second image shows three color options that Samsung plans to offer.

The earbuds seem to come in the Mystic Bronze color, which was also seen in the leaked images of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G. The Galaxy Buds Live will also be offered in Black and White. The earbuds appear to have a glossy metallic finish, while the case appears to have a matte finish.

Samsung Galaxy Buds Live Mystic Bronze

The rounded square-shaped case has two charging status LEDs, one on the outside and other on the inside, just like the Galaxy Buds+. The case most likely has magnets in them to help the earbuds in getting aligned with the cavities where they sit while getting charged.

The shape of the earbuds is similar to a kidney bean and they have pogo pin connectors for charging. They also have two microphones (for voice commands and noise cancellation during calls) and a speaker on the outside. The other side of the earbuds isn’t visible in the leaked images. The Galaxy Buds Live seems to lack silicon ear tips, so they will sit in the ears differently.

Samsung Galaxy Buds Live Colors Black White Mystic Bronze

It is being expected that the Galaxy Buds Live will be announced on July 22. Their rumored price is $150 or lower, making them go head to head with Apple’s regular AirPods. They could also feature active noise cancellation and built-in music playing capabilities.

Galaxy Tab S7’s lack of an IP rating will hold it back from being truly great

Samsung is one of the very few companies that still make flagship Android tablets. It basically has the field all to itself and even though the tablet market may be in a decline, Samsung is still committed to this form factor.

That’s why it’s launching not one but two models of its upcoming flagship tablet – the Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7+. They will definitely be great devices with the latest in mobile technology but there’s one thing that will prevent them from being truly great. That’s the lack of an IP rating.

We have long talked about the benefits of having an IP rating on a flagship Samsung tablet. That wish is not going to be fulfilled by the Galaxy Tab S7, though. We exclusively revealed the Galaxy Tab S7+ specs today and it doesn’t have an IP rating. The same obviously holds true for the Galaxy Tab S7 as well.

A dust and water resistance guarantee is one of the features that we wanted to see from the new flagship tablet. Samsung’s high-end and many of its mid-range smartphones feature an IP rating. This is yet to trickle down to Samsung’s tablet lineup, though. Samsung would be able to do this very easily but it doesn’t seem to be interested.

An IP rating would elevate its flagship tablet over the competition. It will be a genuinely useful addition to the tablet’s capabilities and will also serve as a major selling point. There’s only so much that can offer with a tablet. A top-notch camera system is out of the question because nobody uses tablets for photography and that would also unnecessarily drive up the price, for example. So why not take advantage of this low hanging fruit?

The benefit that users can get out of this functionality will be profound. Think about it. You can use your tablet even when you’re floating around in the pool. There will be no nagging thought at the back of your mind that you’re going to kill your tablet if it falls in the water. The same goes for using it at the beach or when it’s raining (though you may have your own reasons for soaking in the rain while watching something on your tablet).

What to say of those mini heart attacks when your child spills something while they’re watching their favorite cartoons on your tablet? You can shrug that off if it happens to your Galaxy S20, for example, but your heart is going to skip a beat if that happens to your $650 tablet.

With flagship tablets costing as much as they already do, this will also enable Samsung to provide customers with more value for their money. If it ever wants to give iPad owners who are not too caught up in the Apple ecosystem a reason to switch, this just might be it.

We already know that this is not going to happen with the Galaxy Tab S7 so we can forget about a dust and water-resistant tablet for at least one more year. Like many Samsung fans, we’ll continue to hope that Samsung will come around and make this happen.

Watch BTS unbox Galaxy S20+ and Buds+ BTS Edition

Following several teasers and countless fan requests, Samsung released the full video of BTS unboxing their very own edition of the Galaxy S20+ and Galaxy Buds+. Both devices are already available for purchase in many countries around the world, with additional stock being on its way. That’s largely on account of the fact pre-orders went better than expected, and it’s not like Samsung wasn’t expecting much, either. After all, the company didn’t hire history’s most popular boy band because it just wanted to sell a few extra smartphones, it did so to appeal to a rather broad demographic consisting of tens of millions.

The BTS effect

While it remains to be seen how the Galaxy X BTS campaign pans out in terms of sales, Samsung already reaped some pretty amazing rewards in the brand value department. The K-Pop phenomenon is hence primarily responsible for the new social media heights Samsung reached in recent months as BTS fans shattered all of its Twitter records. The added momentum couldn’t have arrived at a better time, either, seeing how the conglomerate’s smartphone sales have been rather disappointing this year, and that’s before the Great Lockdown even started in March.

For all of those reasons, the Galaxy S20+ BTS Edition is likely to pave the way for more of Samsung’s K-Pop collaborations further down the road as the chaebol continues pursuing more cost-effective marketing strategies. In the meantime, try guessing how many millions of views this latest BTS unboxing video will generate on YouTube and Twitter combined.

Samsung conflicted about Galaxy S20 Fan Edition specs: rumor

While it’s still too early to be certain what kind of specs will the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition be packing come early next year, recent rumors suggest Samsung is – or at least was – pretty conflicted about the subject. Meaning that while the Snapdragon 865 is currently expected to be part of the package, Samsung was considering reusing the Snapdragon 855 up until recently. Nevertheless, the company is said to be planning on disabling the Snapdragon 865’s 5G modem in select markets.

The idea is to cut down on licensing costs in places like India where 5G infrastructure is far from widespread or doesn’t exist yet, so using next-generation connectivity as a major selling point is out of the question.

Strong competition is always good news for consumers

Other Galaxy S20 FE specs that have been rumored about this week include a 50-megapixel main camera, an FHD Super AMOLED display whose refresh rate is still up in the air, and the ISOCELL GN1, a first-party 50MP camera sensor Samsung announced in May, as per the same source. The S20 FE will probably have the S10 Lite’s gimbal-like Super Steady OIS technology as well, though this is just an assumption on our part.

As for the rumored chip upgrade, that is most likely a result of strong competition in the mid-range smartphone market. Which is just another example of why having more options is always good news for consumers, even those that have no intention of switching brands. Last month, SamMobile exclusively reported on the Galaxy S20 FE colors, whereas the smartphone itself is expected to hit the market this fall, after the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Fold 2 are already out.

Samsung Flip now supports two-way whiteboarding in real time

Samsung’s futuristic whiteboard – the Flip – now supports two-way communications powered by Cisco Webex, one of the largest video conferencing providers on the planet. Announced by Samsung UK, the feature is simply called Webex on Flip and is already being offered to enterprise clients. In practice, the functionality allows users in different locations to share their screens and edit them in real time. Webex on Flip also extends to annotations, with its overall goal being to facilitate creative collaboration in meetings.

Arguably the key selling point of the service is that it doesn’t require multiple Flip whiteboards but is also compatible with conventional laptops and smartphones. In practice, the only actual requirement for sharing content to the Flip in real time is having a stable Internet connection.

Samsung doubling down on work-from-home solutions

The integration is enabled by Webex Room Kit Mini, an enterprise IT solution which packs a wider range of video conferencing solutions. While Samsung hasn’t shared a detailed development roadmap of Webex on Flip, the company’s announcement suggests the app was made in response to government-mandated lockdowns that became widespread in early March. Further updates to the service may enable a broader array of functionalities, especially as the Flip family continues expanding.

Speaking of which, it’s been nearly a year since Samsung’s digital whiteboard lineup was last refreshed with the addition of a 65-inch model. Given everything that’s been happening in 2020 so far, it seems likely that Samsung will double down on its work-from-home solutions in the near future.

Webex on Flip is now available through Ingram Micro, an American IT distributor.

Samsung Pay now supports TransferWise cards in the UK

Samsung is expanding the list of issuers that support its mobile payments service. The company today announced that Samsung Pay is now available to TransferWise card members in the United Kingdom.

What this means is that TransferWise customers in the United Kingdom will now be able to add their debit cards to Samsung Pay. The mobile payments service can then be used to make payments via those cards.

Samsung Pay now works with TransferWise debit cards

TransferWise isn’t a conventional bank, it actually doesn’t even have a conventional banking license. It’s actually a challenger bank that offers electronic money accounts for individuals and businesses. These are multi-currency accounts that can send, receive, hold and convert multiple currencies all in one account.

You could hold both USD and GBP in the account and if you make a transaction in USD, the debit card will automatically charge the amount in the relevant currency so that you’re not hit with international transaction fees. It can also intelligently convert the currencies in your account to get your a better exchange rate compared to conventional banks.

TransferWise is widely used by businesses and individuals in the United Kingdom for precisely this purpose. They can now use their TransferWise debit Mastercard and the debit Mastercard for Business with Samsung Pay. Do note that only card members who have an address in the UK will be able to use their cards with Samsung Pay.

Once the cards are added, Samsung Pay users can leverage the power of their multi-currency accounts to hold more than 50 currencies at once and then use them in over 70 countries across the globe. The normal transaction limits for using the TransferWise cards will apply when using them through Samsung Pay.

Exclusive: Galaxy A01 Core specs, and yes, the battery is removable

We’ve been following the development of the SM-A013F for a while now. It’s a new entry-level phone that Samsung has been working on. The company is expected to launch it as the Galaxy A01 Core.

Reliable sources have now revealed all of the Galaxy A01 Core’s specifications to us. Earlier reports have suggested that the handset is going to have a removable battery. That is indeed true. The Galaxy A01 Core will bring back removable batteries for Samsung’s entry-level handsets.

Samsung brings back removable batteries with the Galaxy A01 Core

The Galaxy A01 Core has a 5.3-inch 1480×720 pixel resolution PLS TFT LCD display with a 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6739 processor paired with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. The specs make it pretty evident that this handset is a very basic entry-level device.

There’s going to be a single 8-megapixel f.2/2 camera at the back and a 5-megapixel f/2.4 selfie camera. The handset does get a 3,000mAh removable battery which will certainly add to its appeal in this segment of the market. It’s going to run on Android GO V10.0, an optimized version of the mobile OS for low-end devices.

Samsung obviously won’t make a big deal about the launch of the Galaxy A01 Core. It will most likely be announced by way of a press release. Precisely when that’s going to happen remains a mystery for now. However, given the pace at which the Galaxy A01 Core has been picking up certifications, it may not be long before it’s launched.

Galaxy Tab S7+ may support 45W super fast charging after all

Samsung’s upcoming flagship tablet – the Galaxy Tab S7+ – should finally offer a modern fast charging solution, as suggested by a newly spotted product certificate. This possibility comes shortly after another certification authority indicated the entire lineup may be stuck with 15W charging that’s ancient by technology standards. Now, however, it seems that at least the higher-end model will be adopting a standard worthy of its price tag.

Published by Danish authorities in late June, the newly surfaced certification mentions three model numbers of the Tab S7+, all of which were already rumored about: SM-T970, SM-T976N and SM-T976B (the international Wi-Fi model and the Korean and international 5G variants). The certification mentions both 15W and 45W as supported charging speeds, so it seems at least the bigger of the Galaxy Tab S7 duo will be able to charge at 45W.

About time for premium tablets to embrace premium charging standards

With the Galaxy Tab S7+ featuring a 10,090 mAh battery, there’s no doubt a 15W cap would make the process of charging it more inconvenient than it has to be. Mind you, there’s still no guarantee that the tablet will actually ship with a 45W charger, as evidenced by the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Galaxy Note 10+, both of which support the standard but come bundled with a slower 25W charger out of the box.

The Galaxy Tab S7 series is rumored to be launching early next month, at an online-only product event which should also see Samsung announce the Galaxy Note 20 lineup and the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Following that, the tablet range is likely to hit the online and literal store shelves by early September.

It announced the launch of the aluminium Galaxy Watch Active 2 4G in India today. This is the first smartwatch that Samsung has manufactured at its facilities in the country. From now on, at least the smartwatches that are to be sold in India will be manufactured there.

Samsung smartwatches will now be Made in India

The Galaxy Watch Active 2 4G has previously been available in India. It was actually launched in the country seven months ago. It has an eSIM with carriers like Airtel and Jio supporting it. The LTE variant is only available in 44mm and is offered in Cloud Silver, Aqua Black and Pink Gold colors.

Samsung Galaxy M31 finally goes on sale in the Netherlands

One of Samsung’s most compelling budget smartphones is finally available in the Netherlands. The Galaxy M31 is now available for purchase in the country. Samsung previously kept the Galaxy M series limited to India but it has gradually been launching newer models in more markets.

The Galaxy M31 in particular has made its way to Europe already. It’s available in Spain and the United Kingdom. The handset has also been released in other markets across Asia, including Vietnam and Malaysia.

Netherlands gets the Galaxy M31

Samsung Netherlands today announced that the Galaxy M31 is now available for purchase in the country. Coolblue and Bol.com, major online retailers, are exclusively selling this handset online for €279. The handset can be purchased in black and blue colors.

The Galaxy M31 features some impressive specs for smartphones in its price range. It has a 6.4-inch Full HD+ resolution Super AMOLED Infinity-U display, an Exynos 9611 processor with 6GB RAM and up to 128GB of storage. The camera setup features a 64MP primary sensor with an 8MP ultra-wide and 5MP depth sensor. A 5MP macro camera is present as well. Selfie duties are handled by a 32MP camera.

The battery is perhaps the biggest selling point of this device. Samsung has equipped the Galaxy M31 with a massive 6,000mAh battery that supports 15W fast charging. However, headphones don’t come as part of the package so you’ll have to purchase them separately.

Exclusive: Here are the Galaxy Tab S7+’s specs

The Galaxy Tab S7 and Galaxy Tab S7+ are going to be Samsung’s flagship tablet offerings for 2020. The Tab S7 duo is expected to be unveiled alongside the Galaxy Note 20 series on August 5 at Samsung’s virtual Unpacked event, and we have already learned plenty about them, including what they might look like and some of their underlying specs. Now, reliable sources have revealed to us a mostly complete spec sheet of the Galaxy Tab S7+.

Galaxy Tab S7+ specs include Snapdragon 865+, Sub-6GHz 5G support

We had revealed a few months ago that the Galaxy Tab S7 and S7+ would feature 11-inch and 12.4-inch displays, and we now know that at least the Tab S7+’s AMOLED display will have a screen resolution of 2800 by 1752 pixels. That equates to a pixel density of around 267 ppi, so the larger display on the Tab S7+ will not be as sharp as the screen on last year’s Galaxy Tab S6 despite the higher screen resolution.

The display will obviously support the S Pen. It will have Bluetooth built-in so it can be used as a remote control, which was also the case with the S Pen on the Galaxy Tab S6. We can’t confirm if the stylus will have gesture functionality like the Galaxy Note 10’s S Pen, or if it will support features like the improved pointer functionality that will debut on the Galaxy Note 20.

Pushing all those pixels will be the Snapdragon 865+ processor. The faster variant of the Snapdragon 865, made official by Qualcomm just a few hours ago, is the first mobile chipset to break the 3GHz clock speed barrier and brings 10% faster GPU performance over the 865. It will be paired with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM, with 128GB and 256GB storage respectively. A microSD slot is no doubt going to be included, though the information we have received does not mention one.

We have also learned that the 5G variant of the Tab S7+ 5G will only support Sub-6 GHz frequency bands. That means Verizon customers in the US will not be able to use the carrier’s 5G network, at least initially, unless Samsung builds a custom variant for them like it did with the Galaxy S20. The lack of support for mmWave bands shouldn’t be an issue on other carriers and in other countries, however.

10,090 mAh battery, dual rear cameras

Both the LTE and 5G variants have a 10,090 mAh battery under the hood, and as confirmed recently, there’s no 25W or 45W super fast charging. That may or may not be a disadvantage depending on who you ask, but we think Samsung should have brought over the faster charging tech considering the kind of prices you have to pay for these flagship tablets. Even the iPad Pro, which is going to be the Tab S7/S7+’s direct competitor, supports charging speeds of up to 35W and has done so since 2018.

Like the Galaxy Tab S6, the Galaxy Tab S7+ will have a dual rear camera setup made up of 13MP and 5MP sensors and an 8MP front camera. It will run Android 10 and One UI 2.5 out of the box. The One UI 2.5 feature list is largely unknown, except that it will bring support for using Google’s navigation gestures in third-party launchers.

Finally, there’s an in-display fingerprint sensor on the tablet. We don’t know if it will be an optical sensor or an ultrasonic sensor like the one on the Galaxy S10, Note 10, and S20, but if we were to take an educated guess, we would say Samsung is going to stick with the former. That’s not a bad thing, as the optical fingerprint reader the company is using in 2020 is massively improved over the one it used last year.

Samsung’s updated SmartThings Energy service can efficiently manage electricity consumption

Samsung has announced that it is updating its SmartThings Energy service to help consumers reduce electricity consumption in their homes. The new update will roll out on September 9 in South Korea. It can intelligently notify users to switch off their ACs or turn on their eco modes for lower energy consumption.

The South Korean electronics giant launched SmartThings Energy in May last year. The smart home service monitors the real-time energy consumption of all the appliances and devices that are linked to SmartThings and then analyzes usage patterns to provide smart energy-saving tips and to estimate the power bills. It currently supports eight types of appliances, including ACs, air purifiers, clothes purifiers, dishwashers, dryers, refrigerators, kimchi refrigerators, and washing machines.

SmartThings Energy now offers energy-saving controls for air conditioners and air purifiers. The Energy Saving Service feature, which is a part of SmartThings Energy, can now send a signal to the air conditioner to switch to the energy-saving mode. Samsung has also added the ability to set daily energy consumption limit, and when the limit is reached, the AC is automatically switched to the energy-saving mode.

There’s also a new Eco Mode button, and when it is pressed, all the compatible appliances are switched to the economy mode. A new function that comes with the updated SmartThings Energy service suggests users to turn off their appliances when there is no one in the room or home. Samsung’s updated service can also compare the energy consumption of a connected device to the monthly average target.

SmartThings is the only smart home service in South Korea that can calculate the energy consumption of household appliances through an app.

Park Chan-Woo, Managing Director of Samsung Electronics’ Consumer Electronics Division, said, “The enhanced SmartThings Energy Service provides a variety of solutions that can save substantial energy, not just by monitoring energy usage, but also by contributing to a more comfortable life without worrying about electricity prices during the hot summer months through efficient air conditioning control that takes into account the energy usage of each household.
