The Galaxy Note 5 looks amazing with a clear back

In most markets you can get the Galaxy Note 5 in three different colors, in others you can choose from as many as five options, but Samsung doesn’t officially offer a clear back version of the Galaxy Note 5 which keeps the internals in view at all times. Reddit user Skarface08 decided to take matters in his own hands and give the Galaxy Note 5 a clear back, the process is actually quite simple and the result looks amazing to say the least.

What he basically did is remove the color film fixed behind the Galaxy Note 5′s glass back, he’s not swapping out the entire glass back, just removing the film that gives it color. You might think that it will be particularly hard to remove the back since the Galaxy Note 5 doesn’t have a removable back but its not that challenging. All that’s required is a razor blade, a heat gun and a suction cup. There are no special screws holding the glass back in place. He heats up the back around the edges and then uses the suction cup to pry the back off. Once the back has cooled off a bit just take the razor blade and take off all the film, then just stick it back on the phone and the adhesive on the back will hold it securely.

If you do decide to do this keep in mind that you have to be constantly moving the heat gun so that it’s not concentrated on one area for too long, which increases the possibility of heat damage to the internals. Also this process only applies to the back and won’t have the desired effect at the front. I for one like how the Galaxy Note 5 looks with a glass back, adds an extra bit of flair to a great device.

Samsung Z3 comes with KNOX security suite

Samsung launched its second Tizen-powered smartphone in India yesterday, it’s the launch market for this new handset but as we reported last month the Z3 will also be released in Europe. We’ve already seen the SM-Z300F model of the Z3, Samsung’s Galaxy handsets sold in Europe normally have the letter F in their model numbers, so there’s reason to believe that the Z3 will at least be heading to some parts of Europe. Wherever the new handset launches it’s going to be protected by Samsung’s KNOX security suite.

The KNOX security suite goes a long way to ensure that the device can operate on networks that need to have a high level of security, enabling the handset to perform any and all duties required by it in the police, hospitals, banks, government departments and more. It’s great that the Samsung Z3 comes loaded with KNOX version 1.0 on Tizen, the feature will set the handset apart in the low end segment of the market while enabling users to get the most out of their Tizen-powered handset.

Samsung and LG to mass produce OLED digital signages in 2016

Samsung and LG are planning to mass producing OLED digital signage applications in 2016, which could see the growth of the Samsung’s display division. This technology has a lot of applications especially in South Korea, with the digital signage market expected to reach $20 billion in 2020.

Back during CES in January, Samsung and LG both displayed some impressive digital signage arrays which will make way for some pretty smart displays, and LG is working on improving the lifespan of its OLED displays. A basic calculation shows us that its new displays can be used for at least 20 years if they are used for eight hours a day.

Aside from the mass production of OLED digital signage in 2016, Samsung has also released a mirrored OLED display, which is quite fascinating because it has a lot of applications. They’ve got transparent OLED products, which deceived a lot of people due to their futuristic characteristics. Samsung also introduced curved displays with a 5.9mm ultra-slim 55 type curves which offer some of the best user experiences on the market.

Samsung has documented its huge campuses where they produce LCD and OLED display panels in a video, which is embedded below. The video also showcases the excellent facilities that Samsung is providing to its employees and their families, which includes dormitories, residential apartments, schools, colleges, parks, and playgrounds. This video will give you an idea about the vast scale of Samsung’s display business.

Samsung is preparing a brand new Exynos processor for its mid-range devices

Samsung has been in the smartphone SoC business since the Galaxy S days, rivalling the likes of Qualcomm, Intel, Texas Instruments, and MediaTek. The company’s Exynos chipsets have improved a lot from their initial days, be it in terms of raw power or efficiency and features. The Exynos 7420 processor, which has been used in the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy Note 5, outdid the Snapdragon 810, earning a praise for itself from experts worldwide. Now, the company is working on a bunch of new processors for its upcoming mobile devices.

According to the information that we’ve received till now, Samsung is working on at least three new Exynos processors; the Exynos 7422, the Exynos 7880, and the Exynos 8890. The Exynos 7422 is a minor upgrade over the Exynos 7420, which is already being used in a bunch of devices including the Galaxy S6 trio and the Galaxy Note 5. The Exynos 7880 is a brand new chipset that is expected to be used in premium mid-range devices like the Galaxy A series smartphones. The Exynos 8890 on the other hand is expected to be equipped in the Galaxy S7.

Earlier, we reported that the Exynos 8890 features Mongoose (a.k.a Exynos M1) custom CPU cores, which are identical to Apple’s Typhoon and Qualcomm’s Kyro cores. Samsung has started developing and testing these cores for maximum performance along with power efficiency. With this chipset, Samsung will be among the elite few SoC brands who have managed to develop custom CPU cores. Last week, we reported that the Galaxy S7 might come in three different processor variants, and that Samsung is already optimising the Exynos 8890 for better performance.

Samsung claims Tizen is the second largest smartphone operating system in India

Samsung launched its second Tizen-based smartphone, the Z3, in India during the company’s event yesterday. During the event, the company claimed that Tizen now stands as the second largest smartphone operating system in India after Android in the budget segment, which makes it larger than Windows Phone.

Asim Warsi, VP of Samsung India – IT and mobile, said, “Tizen is the second-largest OS in the budget segment in India.” during the launch of the Z3. This means that the first smartphone based on Tizen was more popular than budget Windows Phone devices in India. A few months ago, the South Korean smartphone giant claimed that they were able to sell more than a million units of the Z1 within the six months of its launch, primarily in India and Bangladesh.

The company organised Tizen Developer Summit 2015 in Bengaluru, India a few months ago, and managed to attract a lot of developers. Samsung hopes to sell a million units of the Z3 in just three months. HC Hong, President and Chief Executive of Samsung India Electronics, said. “We were encouraged by the huge popularity of Samsung Z1, the first Tizen OS powered smartphone that sold over one million units within six months of its launch earlier this year.

Russian review of the Samsung Z3 suggests a European launch

The second Tizen smartphone, the Samsung Z3, was officially announced for the Indian market yesterday. We had reported last month that the Z3 would also be released in Europe instead of being limited to India and its neighboring markets, and a review of the device by Russian website Mobile-Review is providing another hint that Samsung will expand Tizen’s reach to more countries this year.

Mobile-Review has reviewed the SM-Z300F model of the Z3; Galaxy devices launched in Europe usually have the letter F in their model numbers, and so do those launched in Russia. While this isn’t a surefire confirmation that the Z3 will make it to Europe (especially since the phone is only available for businesses in Russia), it’s a very strong hint. Another hint is the fact that the reviewed version comes with LTE connectivity, a feature that is missing for the Indian market.

Furthermore, it was recently reported that Samsung could stop selling low-end smartphones in the Netherlands, and the reason behind that move could be the company’s plans to swap those Android devices with devices running Tizen. Yes, that means Samsung would be forcing Tizen on some consumers (or forcing them to move to other manufacturers if they want a low-cost smartphone), but with Android and iOS refusing to let up their dominance, it’s a move that might be unavoidable.

According to the review, the Z3 is a good phone for the price, and you can read through the entire thing at the source link. We will be doing our own review of the Z3, so do keep an eye out for that.

Galaxy Note 5 in Europe? Not so fast

A couple of weeks before the Galaxy Note 5 was officially announced, we exclusively revealed that Samsung wasn’t actively working on a model for the European market. Consumers in the region have been disappointed about Samsung’s decision to limit them to the Galaxy S6 edge+, but some of them might have their hopes raised by a new rumor today that says the Korean manufacturer will bring the Note 5 to European markets by January next year.

Well, we don’t like to be the bearers of bad news, but it seems this rumor has little chance of turning into reality. Like the last time when we checked, the latest firmware for the Note 5 for Europe is from June, and development on the software has not gone forward after that. This could change in the coming weeks if Samsung does intend to launch the Note 5 in Europe early next year, but at this point there is no information to back up that possibility.
