Samsung says it can’t confirm the Galaxy Fold release date yet

Samsung has had to delay its first foldable smartphone as it works to address some design issues which can cause problems for the display. April 26 was the original Galaxy Fold release date but the company has since delayed the launch. A new release date has not yet been confirmed.

The company has sent out emails to customers who pre-ordered the Galaxy Fold. It mentions in the emails that a new Galaxy Fold release date can’t be confirmed at this point in time. Customers who pre-ordered a unit will by refunded any amounts they have been charged in full.

No new Galaxy Fold release date yet

Samsung says that it’s “making progress in enhancing the Galaxy Fold” to ensure that it lives up to the high standards that customers expect from it. This suggests that whatever is being reworked on the device isn’t proving to be too difficult to fix.

It does caution that a new Galaxy Fold release date can’t be confirmed right now. Samsung says that it will have more specific shipping information to share in the coming weeks. It’s a vague timeframe but that’s what Samsung is willing to provide right now.

Customers who pre-ordered the device will have priority once the device ships. Their order guarantees them a place in the queue. However, if they change their mind, they can cancel their order at anytime before the device ships via Samsung.com. Any and all amounts charged will be refunded in full. If a customer takes no action and Samsung is unable to ship the Galaxy Fold by May 31, it will automatically cancel the pre-orders and refund all amounts.

Those who want to retain their place even after May 31 can notify Samsung of the same. The email it is sending out to pre-order customers details the steps to be followed. They will continue to have the option to cancel their pre-order at any point before the device ships.

As a pre-order customer, would you be retaining your place or cancelling the order? Let us know in the comments below.

Galaxy Note 10 fast charge speed could be higher than 25W

There’s only one model of the Galaxy S10 that features Samsung’s new ‘super fast charging’ and you won’t find it in most markets. The Galaxy S10 5G supports 25W fast charging compared to the 15W fast charging on the company’s recent devices. However, there’s one non-flagship with super fast charging and it’s the Galaxy A70.

So would you put your money on 25W fast charging for the Galaxy Note 10? We’ve already confirmed that it’s going to have a 5G model so the assumption would be that it also gets super fast charging. If you believe recent reports, the Galaxy Note 10 fast charge speed could be even higher than 25W.

Galaxy Note 10 fast charge speed may hit 50W

We have already discussed just how quick is Samsung’s 25W super fast charging in detail. There were some noticeable advantages of super fast charging on the Galaxy A70 that we ran our tests on. If there’s going to be another Samsung device this year to get support for super fast charging, you can bet it will be the Galaxy Note 10.

Noted tech leakster Ice Universe predicts that the Galaxy Note 10 fast charge speed could be more than 25W. No specific figure has been provided, though, but he mentions that the battery capacity and charging speed won’t be a weak point for the device. Gordon Kelly over at Forbes hears something similar from a trusted source. He was told that the figure will likely be higher and not lower than 25W. Fans can expect to be “pleasantly surprised and not disappointed” when the charging specs are made public.

There is some speculation about the Galaxy Note 10 having support for 50W super fast charging. That might sound like hogwash to some people but it won’t exactly be new territory for the market. Oppo’s SuperVOOC charging technology already delivers a maximum charging power that’s close to 50W. It claims that this can fully charge a smartphone in 35 minutes (in controlled lab conditions).

Expect to hear more about the Galaxy Note 10’s battery capacity and charging speed in the coming weeks. These upgrades may prove to be crucial in getting more people to purchase Samsung’s upcoming flagship.

Exclusive: Galaxy Home hasn’t been discontinued, release due soon

Samsung revealed the Galaxy Home nine months ago. The company’s Bixby-powered smart speaker was unveiled alongside the Galaxy Note 9 last year. It has certainly been a long wait for this product. Samsung still hasn’t confirmed when we can expect the speaker to arrive.

Given just how long it has been, and the fact that Bixby’s capabilities haven’t really been improved over the past few months, many began to wonder whether Samsung had decided to discontinue the Galaxy Home even before it had been launched. We can now confirm that this isn’t the case. It may not be long now before the Galaxy Home release takes place.

Galaxy Home release likely not that far off

Our sources tell us that Samsung is putting the finishing touches on the companion app for the Galaxy Home. It would obviously not be doing that if it had no intention to release the Galaxy Home. The app will allow for easy setup of a Galaxy Home speaker. It will also be used for managing device settings and Bixby services.

The Galaxy Home won’t just be a smart speaker like an Amazon Echo. It aims to provide a respectable audio experience as well. No wonder that the Galaxy Home will feature natural sound processing with powerful speakers and a subwoofer which will deliver deep bass. The directional audio speakers will be AKG-tuned. Galaxy Home also gets support for Samsung’s smart home ecosystem so it will enable users to control their SmartThings devices with voice commands.

Samsung CEO DJ Koh did say two months ago that the Galaxy Home is going to be released in April this year. That didn’t happen but his comments and this latest information suggests that it’s only a matter of time now before Samsung finally starts selling the Galaxy Home. Could we see it hit shelves later this month? We don’t see a reason why not.

Samsung’s fortunes seem to be improving in China

It’s no secret that Samsung has been struggling in the lucrative Chinese smartphone market. The company’s market share in China fell below 1 percent last year. Things got so bad that Samsung had to apologize for its poor performance in the country. It also promised to do more in order to regain its lost glory in the lucrative market.

Samsung has since made some organizational changes to its China division in order to reignite growth. The local chiefs were replaced and new partnerships were inked with local services to provide improved services to customers. It seems like those efforts may be paying off.

Market share crossed 1 percent threshold

The latest data released by market research firm Strategy Analytics shows that Samsung’s market share in China has crossed the 1 percent threshold. This has happened for the first time in four quarters. Impressive sales of the Galaxy S10 have contributed to the uptick in its market share.

The data shows that Samsung shipped around one million smartphone units in China in the quarter ending March 2019. This accounted for 1.1 percent of the country’s market. It’s the first time since Q1 last year that Samsung’s market share in China has exceeded 1 percent.

It’s imperative that the company keep this up and regain more market share in the lucrative smartphone market. Samsung has already said that it plans to bring its latest Galaxy A series to China as well. The new series has been well received in other markets. It should allow Samsung to effectively compete against the strong local rivals in the budget segment as well.

Galaxy S10 Tip: Swipe down on the home screen to access notifications

With smartphone screens getting bigger by the day, getting to Android’s notification panel can be a chore, especially if you have small hands. Android allows you to swipe down on the fingerprint sensor to open the notification panel, but with the fingerprint sensor sitting under the display on the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+, that convenience is not an option. However, there is a way you can open the notification panel without reaching for the top of your Galaxy S10 or S10+’ display, at least on the home screen.

By default, swiping up or down on the home screen will take you into the app drawer, but you can assign the swipe down action to expanding the notification shade. This feature works only on the home screen, but since that’s the first thing you usually see after unlocking your phone, it’s still pretty handy to have.

Follow the steps below to see how you can enable the option to swipe down on the home screen to access the notification panel.

Step 1: Open the Settings app on your Galaxy S10e/S10/S10+, then select Display.

Step 2: Here, select Home screen to go into home screen settings.

Step 3: In the home screen settings, enable the Quick-open notification panel option.

You should now be able to swipe down on the home screen to open the notification panel to check out your phone’s notifications; swiping up will still take you into the app drawer. And this feature also works on any other Galaxy smartphone running Android 8.0 Oreo and above, so you don’t need to have a Galaxy S10 to reap the benefit.

Remember, if you own a Galaxy S10e, you can also swipe down on the fingerprint sensor to open the notification shade from any app or screen. Check out this guide to see how you can enable that functionality.

The Galaxy Watch LTE has gained support for one more carrier in Brazil. Claro has started selling the smartwatch in the country. Until now, the watch was available only for Vivo’s postpaid customers. Equipped with an e-SIM, the Galaxy Watch LTE lets users seamlessly access network connectivity on their watch, without needing to have it connected to a smartphone. The watch shares the number and plan contracted for a smartphone.

Early buyers get 3 months of free service

To share your smartphone number and Claro Post plan with your Galaxy Watch LTE, you need to subscribe to Claro Sync. The service costs BRL 29.99 (~$7.6) per month. However, the carrier is running a promotional offer which gives 3 months of free service to customers who join the network and buy the watch before May 30.

You can sync your smartphone with your Galaxy Watch LTE at any Claro store. The pairing is done through the Galaxy Wearable app on your smartphone. The Galaxy Watch is compatible with both Samsung and non-Samsung Android smartphones as well as iPhones.

The Galaxy Watch LTE comes with the Exynos 9110 dual-core 1.15GHz processor, paired with 1.5 GB of RAM and 4GB storage. The device has been manufactured to the MIL-STD-810 durability standard and is water resistant up to 50 meters. Samsung launches the feature-packed Galaxy A70 in Malaysia

Samsung has launched the Galaxy A70, the newest member of its crowded 2019 Galaxy A lineup, in Malaysia. Announced towards the end of March, the latest upper-mid-range smartphone from Samsung has so far been launched in several Asian countries, including IndiaChina, and Vietnam, and is coming to markets in a few other regions soon. The device offers several premium features, such as 25W super fast charging, 32MP cameras, and an in-display fingerprint sensor.

The most feature-packed Galaxy A smartphone

The Galaxy A70 is the most feature-packed Galaxy A smartphone available right now. It features a 6.7-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED Infinity-U display and is powered by the Snapdragon 675 octa-core chipset. The device comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage space. It runs Android Pie out of the box, with Samsung’s One UI 1.1 on top. For optics, you have a triple camera setup on the back and a 32MP front camera.

As we concluded in our review, the Galaxy A70 is a media consumption powerhouse which can take plenty of abuse and still hold on to some battery juice, thanks to the big 4,500 mAh battery. And with 25W super fast charging, it charges faster than any other Galaxy A smartphone and even the non-5G Galaxy S10 flagship trio. The Galaxy A70 also offers MST-based Samsung Pay, a rare feature on the new Galaxy A series phones.

The Galaxy A70 is available at all Samsung stores and authorized retailers across Malaysia with a price tag of RM1,999 (~$492). It comes in blue, black, and white with a gradient finish.
