See how Vulkan API allows better gaming performance on the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge

We know that the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are the first smartphones in the world to support Vulkan APIs out of the box, and Samsung has made quite an effort to make its flagship smartphones better for mobile gamers. Now, Samsung has released a video that shows how Vulkan API improves gaming performance on the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.

Samsung showcased three cutting-edge games – Need for Speed™ No Limits, Heroes of Incredible Tales, and Vainglory – based on Vulkan API at this year’s E3 gameshow. You can notice improved graphics quality and performance as well as the stability of frame rates in the video that compares gaming performance of three games using Vulkan API and OpenGL side by side.

Samsung has been a great partner for us in importing our games to Vulkan. We actually had engineers from Samsung right here in our office helping us port Vainglory to Vulkan and really squeeze out all the performance we can,” said Tommy Krul, Chief Technology Officer at Super Evil Megacorp.

Vulkan is a new cross-platform 3D graphics and compute API that reduces CPU bottlenecks, allows the use of multi-core CPUs for increased performance, and reduces stutters. Use of Vulkan to develop games results in responsive graphics and immersive gaming experience for users.

In addition to Vulkan, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge come with features such as Game Tools and Game Launcher that are quite helpful for mobile gamers. Samsung is also testing new versions of Game Launcher and Game Tools, which are expected to be released soon. The company is also testing a new app launcher based on Vulkan for smoother performance.

Those who own the Galaxy On7 have something to look forward to today as Samsung has finally released the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update for the Galaxy On7. It may only be a matter of time before this update is also released for the Galaxy On5.

It comes with features like an improved Doze mode, overhauled notifications, more granular app permissions, user interface tweaks, and much more. This update also bumps up the security patch on this device to the latest version. The update is being rolled out over-the-air starting today and will soon go live for users in supported regions, it’s available for download from our firmware section as well. If recent indications are believed then we shall soon be seeing the 2016 variants of the Galaxy On7 and the Galaxy On5.

T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 gets Marshmallow at last

If you think Verizon took its sweet time to release Marshmallow for the Galaxy Note 4 earlier this month, think again. T-Mobile has kept its users waiting even longer as it has come out with the update just now. Galaxy Note 4 (SM-N910T) owners on T-Mobile will soon receive an update notification on their device telling them that the much-awaited Marshmallow update is finally available to download.

The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update N910TUVU2EPE3 for the Galaxy Note 4 on T-Mobile weighs in at 1.5GB, that’s because it adds several new features to the handset aside from user interface improvements. The update also brings the latest Android security patch. T-Mobile has just started rolling out this update so it’s going to take some time before Marshmallow for Galaxy Note 4 owners on its network goes live for everybody.

Video details new TouchWiz UX for the Galaxy Note 7

We have heard multiple times that Samsung is going to introduce a new Grace UX with the Galaxy Note 7. It’s basically an updated version of TouchWiz that we are all used to by now. The video offers us a look at this user experience in detail and shows us that the new UX looks very appealing. We can see that the notifications experience has been overhauled and the settings menu has been changed to spread out the menus based on various elements.

The new TouchWiz design appears to be very clean and simple overall, the colors are very nice and not too distracting. Samsung has never shied away from allowing users to customize the look of their devices and with the new TouchWiz UX it may even allow them to use icon packs to add a bit of flair to the system. Do check out a video and get a glimpse of what the UX might look like on the Galaxy Note 7.

Leak partially confirms hardware specs of the Galaxy Note 7

Yesterday, a leak from @evleaks suggested that the Galaxy Note 7 will be available in a new Blue color variant, while also introducing iris scanner for the very first time in the Note series. The latest leak from China has now substantiated some of the previously leaked hardware specs of the Galaxy Note 7.

This new leak has mentioned the presence of a Snapdragon 821 SoC (2.3 GHz quad-core) along with Samsung’s own Exynos 8893 chipset (2.6-2.7 GHz octa-core). We expect the Exynos models to be focused on the developing markets while regions like the U.S. will probably end up getting the Snapdragon model of the Galaxy Note 7.

The leak also reiterates that the Galaxy Note 7 will feature a 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display, 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 64/128/256GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot, a 12-megapixel dual-pixel phase-detection rear camera, a 5-megapixel front camera, a 4,000 mAh battery with fast-charging support and Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with the new Grace UX. This will be Samsung’s first mobile device to feature a USB Type-C port, thus ditching the micro USB port for good.

The Note 7 is also expected to debut an all-new S Pen stylus with Samsung Pay. The handset should be water/dust resistant as well (IP68 certified). The flagship is expected to be announced by early August, so the wait shouldn’t be too long from now.

Samsung’s ‘culture innovation’ is now underway

Earlier this year in March, Samsung said that it wants to ditch the corporate bore and feel like a young and trendy startup again. The “culture innovation” drive is spearheaded by Samsung Electronics vice chairman Lee Jae-yong who is particularly willing to shed the conglomerate’s rigid, top-down management culture to promote horizontal communication and increase work efficiency.

In the first phase Samsung is going to implement a comprehensive reshuffle of work positions by simplifying seven job titles into four. It’s also going to add the Korean suffix “nim” to every employee’s name regardless of their job title in a bid to promote horizontal communication. The suffix “nim” can be used with names and titles as an expression of politeness and respect. Existing job titles like daeri (assistant manager), gwajang (manager), and bujang (team leader) will be replaced with four levels based on the employee’s job competency. The change does not apply to job titles of executives.

Samsung is also going to change its existing briefing and meeting culture by recommending employees to hold meetings that last less than an hour and only absolutely necessary personnel will be required to attend these meetings. Employees will be discouraged from remaining at work just because their boss is still in the office and they may also be allowed to wear shorts during the summer starting this year.

“To improve Samsung’s global competitiveness and to create a creative and horizontal work culture, we are shifting from a seniority-based personnel management system to a job- and role-based system,” an official for the company confirmed.

Samsung wins Creative Marketer of the Year award at Cannes Lions 2016

Samsung won 27 awards at the Cannes Lions last year and this year it’s taking it a step further. Samsung Electronics has won a total of 29 awards, including Creative Marketer of the Year, at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2016. The awards highlight Samsung’s focus on consumer-centric campaigns as well as its contributions to creativity in marketing.

Eleven of the company’s unique marketing campaigns were recognized at the global marketing awards show. Each campaign was designed to demonstrate Samsung’s vision of enriching people’s lives and creating a better world through technology and products. These campaigns also helped Samsung become the first Korean company to be awarded Creative Marketer of the Year. One of the festival’s major winners was brainBAND, a wearable solution developed by Samsung to prevent and monitor the impact of concussions in high impact sports. Voices of Lives, an application solution which allows premature babies in an incubator to listen to the mother’s voice also won an award.

“Wining “Creative Marketer of the Year”, the world’s most acknowledged award for marketing, is the outcome from the close collaboration of all marketing employees at Samsung and agency partners” said Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung, adding that the company will remain focused on expanding Samsung’s brand through human-centric marketing campaigns.
