Samsung’s T55 curved monitors are now available in the UK

Samsung’s T55 curved monitor series is now available in the UK. The company first unveiled the new T55 series earlier this year as a curved monitor solution designed more for use in home offices and workplaces. Its other curved monitor series designed specifically for gaming, the Odyssey G7, was released in South Korea a couple of weeks ago.

The Samsung T55 lineup consists of three models with diagonals of 24, 27, and 32 inches. They all have a 1000R curved screen with AMD FreeSync technology, 4ms GTG (gray-to-gray) pixel response time, and a refresh rate of 75Hz. The T55 monitors also have a Game Mode that optimizes colors and contrast, and the larger 27 and 32-inch variants even come with 5-watt stereo speakers.

T55 curved monitors start at £179 in the UK

Samsung UK is now selling the 24-inch T55 curved monitor online for £179. Unfortunately, the middle-of-the-road 27-inch variant is not yet available for purchase at the time of writing, but customers are looking at a £229 price tag and they can sign up for stock alerts.

The good news for customers in the UK who may be wanting to buy the largest 32-inch variant is that the product is now available online for the price of £259. Check the links below for details.

Only the Galaxy Note 20 base model might switch to a flat display

A rumor from earlier this week claimed that Samsung might be ditching the edge screen design for the Galaxy Note 20, however, it wasn’t clear whether the new flat-screen design would be adopted only by the base model or by both it and the Galaxy Note 20+ / Note 20 Ultra. But according to a new bit of information shared by the same source that was behind the previous rumor, the flat screen will be reserved only for the Galaxy Note 20 base model.

A true flat display similar to the Note 10 Lite

The Galaxy Note 20 base model might end up carrying a 2.5D display, if the rumor is correct. This display design has rounded edges for a more comfortable grip, but the image on the display itself remains perfectly flat as opposed to wrapping around the phone’s sides. Essentially, the Galaxy Note 20 could have a screen design similar to the Galaxy Note 10 Lite, except it will presumably have thinner bezels. Meanwhile, only the Galaxy Note 20+ / Note 20 Ultra will have what Galaxy fans call an edge display. It will look more like the Galaxy Note 10 series in this regard.

Every rumor so far has painted the Galaxy Note 20+ / Note 20 Ultra as the variant to buy once it becomes available in August. However, many S Pen enthusiasts appreciate a flat display more, and if the 2.5D glass will be exclusive to the Galaxy Note 20 base model, this might make for a difficult choice between the two. The standard Note 20 with its flat screen will have the superior display design for a better S Pen experience in the eyes of many Galaxy Note fans. Then again, buyers might end up missing out on 120Hz refresh rate and LTPO backplane technology, should they choose the Galaxy Note 20 base model.

Would you be willing to give up on 120Hz and LTPO in favor of a flat display for the Galaxy Note 20? Will a different display design for each Galaxy Note 20 variant make it more difficult for you to decide which S Pen flagship is a better choice? Let us know below.

Samsung pledges to defeat coronavirus in 2020 sustainability report

Samsung today released the latest edition of its sustainability report meant to illustrate the forethought that goes into the company’s business decisions. The 136-page document unsurprisingly puts Samsung’s COVID-19 response front and center. After all, the effects of the ongoing health crisis are already permeating Samsung’s many operations across the planet, so solving the novel coronavirus pandemic is certainly near the top of the chaebol’s priority list.

Samsung intends to do so by continuing to invest in countless bleeding-edge technologies, as well as seeking input from its employees of all backgrounds. Its 2020 sustainability report hence reveals the firm organized a massive online forum encompassing over 100,00 employees for the sole purpose of solving the COVID-19 outbreak. The happening, held in April, shaped Samsung’s early response to the pandemic, including its decision to form a dedicated crisis team and implement strict quarantine measures minimizing employee infection cases.

A breakdown of COVID-19 response proposals from Samsung employees gathered in April.

Nearly $2 billion in relief efforts

Additionally, Samsung already provided the equivalent of $830 million worth of funds at zero- and low-cost interest rates to businesses affected by the crisis. The conglomerate’s recent relief efforts also included advanced payments to its many suppliers totaling some $1.08 billion, the report reveals. Moving forward, Samsung intends to continue doubling down indirect contributions to the global COVID-19 fight in the form of consumer products and services such as smartwatch apps and charity initiatives.

The 2020 sustainability report also reveals Samsung’s increased focus on education initiatives meant to minimize the chances of another global pandemic happening in the future. Samsung itself previously acknowledged it has yet to feel the worst effects of the coronavirus crisis, though it’s not like its production output isn’t already sufferring.

Galaxy Buds and Buds+ get new firmware update for stability, security

It hasn’t been long since Samsung rolled out an update for the Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Buds+. A couple of weeks back, the Galaxy Buds got some Buds+ goodies, while the newer model had its Ambient Sound feature improved with the previous release. Now the company is at it again, as both the Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Buds+ are getting a new update to firmware version R17xXXU0ATF2.

The firmware number is identical for both models and so is the changelog, but the size of the update is seemingly slightly different. It weighs 1.40MB on the Galaxy Buds and 1.32MB on the Galaxy Buds+. In both cases, the changelog only mentions that the update implements stability code for device security.

To download the latest update for the Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Buds+, open the Galaxy Wearable app on your connected smartphone and check if firmware version R175XXU0ATE3 is available for download. The update will reach more Buds and markets gradually, so even if it’s not waiting for you to download it right now, a notification should arrive sooner rather than later. Have you updated your wearables to this latest version? We haven’t found any other notable additions or changes, but feel free to drop a comment below and let us know if you have.

Galaxy Tab S7 and Tab S7+ will have 120Hz displays, rumor claims

One of our greatest wishes regarding Samsung’s next flagship tablet might be coming true. If the latest rumor from the Twitter leaker sphere is correct, the Galaxy Tab S7 and Tab S7+ will be equipped with displays capable of a 120Hz refresh rate.

As great as Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S6 may be, the tablet is equipped with a 60Hz display that is technically incapable of matching the smoothness of an iPad Pro. Samsung seemingly wants to change this with its upcoming flagship tablet series, and it’s a good thing too, if it wants to step outside its Android comfort zone and compete with Apple’s best.

A 120Hz tablet display can drastically change the experience

A 90Hz/120Hz display is one of our biggest desires when it comes to the list of Galaxy Tab S7/S7+ features we’d like to see. A high-refresh rate contributes to smoother animations and a feel of higher touch responsiveness, and it can even help the S Pen experience. Flawed as it is, the 120Hz display mode present on the Galaxy S20 series is a game-changer and it makes it difficult going back to 60Hz. These benefits might be felt even more on a large-screen device designed for multimedia experiences.

On the other hand, doubling the refresh rate will also have a negative effect on battery life, but this might not be as big of an issue on a large tablet, particularly because of the more generous battery inside. The Galaxy Tab S7+ is expected to ship with a battery boasting a rated capacity of 9,800mAh.

It’s only logical to assume that at least the larger Galaxy Tab S7+ will have a 90Hz or 120Hz display, but remember, a high refresh rate screen might be missing from the base Galaxy Note 20 model, so right now there’s no way to be certain of Samsung’s intentions regarding its upcoming tablets. It could be that only one model, none, or both will have a 120Hz screen, so keep a healthy dose of skepticism until more details emerge.

Galaxy S20+ BTS Edition could launch in Europe for 1,049 euros

The purple Galaxy S20+ BTS Edition might not remain exclusive to South Korea, as according to a new rumor passed along by @rquandt on Twitter, the limited-edition device is going to be released in Europe where it will likely be accompanied by a couple of BTS-themed accessories.

The Galaxy S20+ BTS Edition with 128GB of storage is going to hit the shelves in Europe for 1,049 euros, according to the source. The phone is likely to boast 5G connectivity and ship along with the Galaxy Buds+ BTS Edition and possibly the BTS-themed wireless charger that popped up in a press render earlier today.

The Galaxy Buds+ BTS Edition appeared on Samsung’s UAE portal recently, hinting at an even wider launch. However, the earbuds are going to be sold separately to those who might not want to spend roughly 1,000 euros on a BTS-themed smartphone but still want a purple accessory to highlight their BTS fandom. However, it’s not entirely unclear if the BTS-themed Buds+ will be available for purchase in markets where the Galaxy S20+ BTS Edition won’t.

Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy S20+ BTS Edition on July 9 after a pre-order period of a few weeks running from June 19 to July 5. We expect the limited-edition device to debut in South Korea, the home country of both Samsung and BTS, but fans of the K-pop group in other select markets should be getting the chance to buy the BTS Edition package soon thereafter.

Zone V is a new Galaxy Store-exclusive launcher for the elderly

Having the ability to connect with people remotely has never been more important than it’s been this year, in large part due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdowns that followed. With many people stuck at home, technology plays an even bigger part in our lives than it used to, and Samsung in partnership with Zone V Limited wants to put the power of the smartphone in the hands of elderly people.

An exclusive launcher for senior Galaxy smartphone users

Samsung and Zone V Limited have joined forces to bring the Zone V app to the Galaxy Store. Zone V is a launcher designed primarily for seniors who may be suffering from poor eyesight, hearing, or dexterity. It drastically changes and simplifies the UI, not only for the home screen but for most first-party apps including Phone, Messages, Clock, Calendar, and Settings. It even comes with its own Notifications app to replace the standard notification shade.

The Zone V launcher also offers a couple of options for text size and color, and comes with a built-in SOS function that provides immediate access to the user’s emergency contacts. It’s compatible with any Samsung Galaxy smartphone running KNOX 2.6 and above.

Zone V is exclusive to the Galaxy Store, free for the first 4 months

The Zone V app is exclusive to Samsung devices, therefore, it’s available for download only from the Galaxy Store (tap the link). To celebrate the new partnership, the app is launching free of charge. Anyone who downloads the app within the next 6 months will get 4 months of free access to Zone V.

Once the 4 months of free access expire, Galaxy smartphone owners who may want to continue using the app will be able to do so by signing up to a £1.99 monthly subscription or paying £19.99 a year.

Latest Galaxy S20 update changes S20 Ultra’s close-up zoom feature

The Galaxy S20 5G series is getting a new update in Nordic countries, pushing the firmware version to G98xBXXU2ATF5. It’s the second firmware update for the Galaxy S20 5G series in Europe to carry the June 2020 security patch, and it brings a couple of changes to the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s close-up zoom feature.

The close-up zoom feature was first introduced to the Galaxy S20 Ultra with firmware version G98xxXXU2ATE6 a few weeks ago as a way to make up for its longer-than-usual focal length. We detailed this camera mode before, so check our previous story for a video preview of how it works, or rather how it used to work. The latest firmware update changes the way close-up zoom functions by enabling 2x zoom instead of 1.5x zoom. Furthermore, the Use close-up zoom pop-up text has been changed to read Tap here, then back up a bit for better focus. It should make the function’s purpose a little bit clearer. Have a look at the screenshot below.

We haven’t noticed any additional changes with this latest firmware update for the Galaxy S20 5G series in Nordic countries, and no, the close-up zoom feature hasn’t been brought over to the other non-Ultra models, but we’ll keep you posted if we find more. Feel free to leave a comment if you come across any other new features and, as always, you can grab the latest update when the notification arrives on the phone or by visiting SamMobile’s firmware archive. There, you can download the firmware for your smartphone model and region, and install it on your handset using a Windows PC.

Three features I wish to see on the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition/Lite

When Samsung announced the Galaxy S10 Lite many, many months after the Galaxy S10 lineup was launched, everyone was left scratching their heads. A new Galaxy S10 model simply did not make any sense to any of us, until we actually used the device and realized it’s quite a good phone (read our review here).

A Snapdragon 855 processor under the hood, a beautiful Super AMOLED display, surprisingly good cameras, and fantastic battery life make the Galaxy S10 Lite an attractive proposition. And Samsung is only going to continue the new trend of ‘lite’ variants of flagship Galaxy phones. As we exclusively reported earlier today, Samsung is now working on a ‘Fan Edition’ of the Galaxy S20, which is most likely going to be a Lite version of Samsung’s 2020 flagship.

And while it’s too early to say what the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition’s spec sheet will look like, I already have a (short) wishlist for what features I’d like to see on the device.

Snapdragon 865 for all markets

The best thing about the Galaxy S10 Lite was the fact that it allowed more Samsung fans to buy a Galaxy S10 smartphone with a Snapdragon 855 processor instead of an Exynos chip. The Exynos 9820 that powered the Galaxy S10 in most markets was not as good as the Snapdragon 855, just as the Exynos 990 powering the Galaxy S20 falls short of the Snapdragon 865, leaving many angry with Samsung’s insistence on using its inferior in-house silicon.

If the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition/Lite is anything like the Galaxy S10 Lite, then it’s possible that Samsung will equip it with the Snapdragon 865 in all countries. Or, well, I hope that’s the case. Samsung clearly isn’t going to stop using Exynos chips in its flagship phones, and while that’s understandable from a business standpoint, the least Samsung can do is offer alternatives for those who want a Galaxy phone with the latest top-of-the-line Snapdragon chip, even if it has to make concessions in some of the other specs (like the cameras).

120Hz display

Indeed, one feature Samsung should carry over from the flagship Galaxy S20s is the 120Hz refresh rate. The high refresh rate is, in my opinion, the best thing about the Galaxy S20 lineup in addition to the zooming prowess of the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Actually, if I had to switch to the Galaxy S10 Lite from the Galaxy S20 Ultra, the only thing I’d really miss is the high refresh rate display. That’s because while the high-quality zoom is great to have, the high refresh rate becomes necessary once you’ve used it, a sentiment I’m sure many of you who are using a Galaxy S20 will agree with.

5,000 mAh battery

I wrote earlier about how I think the Galaxy Note 20+/Ultra feels less exciting than it should have, and one of the reasons is that Samsung is evidently equipping it with a battery that’s smaller than the Galaxy S20 Ultra. It’s probably a sacrifice Samsung has to make if it wants the S Pen to fit inside the phone, but there’s no S Pen on the Galaxy S series, so there’s nothing stopping Samsung from equipping the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition with the same 5,000 mAh battery as the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

A 5,000 mAh battery would ensure that the device can last long even with the high refresh rate enabled, and it would just make for an attractive selling point in general. I mean, if the Galaxy S10 Lite can have a battery that’s bigger than all three flagship Galaxy S10 models (except the S10 5G, which was launched in very few regions), the Lite version of the Galaxy S20 can certainly have the same capacity as the top Galaxy S20 model.

What would you like to see from a Galaxy S20 Lite/Galaxy S20 Fan Edition? Let me know down in the comments!

Galaxy M31s could feature Exynos 9611 processor, 6GB RAM

We had exclusively reported last month that Samsung is working on the Galaxy M31s and the Galaxy M51s. Two weeks ago, it was revealed that both the smartphones feature 64MP quad-camera setups and could soon be launched in India. Now, the Galaxy M31s has appeared on the internet, revealing some of its key specifications.

Going by the entry of the Galaxy M31s (SM-M317F) in Geekbench’s database, the smartphone runs Android 10, so it will come with One UI 2.x. The phone also seems to be using the company’s own Exynos 9611 processor and 6GB RAM. The Galaxy M31s scored 347 points in Geekbench 5.2.0’s single-core CPU test and 1,256 points in the multi-core CPU test.

We had revealed earlier that the Galaxy M31s will have a variant with 128GB internal storage. Since it is a mid-range smartphone, we can expect it to have a variant with 64GB storage. The phone’s rumored quad-camera setup uses Samsung’s ISOCELL Bright GW1 64MP sensor. It could also feature an ultrawide camera, a macro camera, and a depth sensor.

It is logical to expect a Super AMOLED screen, a fingerprint reader, a dual-SIM card slot, a USB Type-C port, and a headphone jack with the Galaxy M31s as all these features are already present in the Galaxy M31. It is also possible that the phone features a 6,000mAh battery with fast charging. The phone is expected to debut later this year.

Samsung is also making a BTS edition wireless charger

It was revealed last week that Samsung will launch BTS editions of the Galaxy S20+ 5G and the Galaxy Buds+ and that it intends to sell these devices in limited numbers. Now, an image of a BTS edition wireless charger has been leaked on the internet, revealing Samsung’s plans to go all out with BTS co-branding.

Noted leakster Even Blass (@evleaks), who leaked the press render of the Galaxy S20+ BTS Edition earlier this week, has published an image of a purple-colored Qi wireless charger from Samsung. Going by the BTS logo on the charger, it is evident that the South Korean smartphone brand will launch a BTS edition of the wireless charger.

The charger appears slightly different than the 9W wireless charger pad that Samsung sells, and we don’t know its technical specifications just yet. This wireless charger might come bundled with the Galaxy S20+ BTS Edition smartphone in a unique package.

Samsung will unveil the BTS-branded Galaxy S20+ and the Galaxy Buds+ on June 19, and the smartphone would go on sale from July 9. Pre-orders for the limited-edition phone will start from June 19 and run until July 5. The device will be available in South Korea at first, but Samsung could launch it in other markets as well.
