Samsung showcases Galaxy Fit features in new video

In a bid to drum up some excitement for the forthcoming Galaxy Fit, Samsung has shared a short video highlighting all of the wearable’s most appealing features over on YouTube — demonstrating everything from its integrated stress management tool, to its automatic workout detection.

Earlier this month, Samsung started shipping the boiled-down Galaxy Fit e in some markets; though it’s unclear when the high-end Galaxy Fit will launch. When the two devices were announced back in February, a release date of May 31 was set — but there’s been no word on the matter since.

So, what’s the difference between the Galaxy Fit and the Galaxy Fit e? Well, truth be told, there isn’t a whole lot in it. Both track activities — like biking, hiking and running — and are water-resistant up to 5 ATM, with the most notable differences being a larger screen and a bigger battery.

Samsung’s new Exynos 9609 chip powers Motorola’s Android One phone

Samsung has announced a new mid-range Exynos chipset today. The Exynos 9609 is Samsung’s second mobile processor in the company’s Exynos 96xx series, following the Exynos 9610 that powers the Galaxy A50. However, the first device to use the Exynos 9609 isn’t a Galaxy phone. It’s the Motorola One Vision, an Android One smartphone unveiled earlier this week.

Exynos 9609 vs Exynos 9610: A few differences exist

The 9609’s specs suggest it’s pretty much the same as the Exynos 9610, only with slightly lower maximum clock speeds. The Exynos 9610 can go up to 2.3GHz and 1.7GHz for its four Cortex-A73 and four Cortex-A53 cores respectively, while the Exynos 9609 tops out at 2.2GHz and 1.7GHz. However, while the rest of the specs may seem similar (like a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU, support for WQXGA displays (2560×1600), LTE Cat.12 connectivity, UFS 2.1 and eMMC 5.1 storage), there are some minor differences when you look closely.

The Exynos 9609 supports LPDDR4 memory alongwith the more efficient LPDDR4x memory, while the 9610 only supports the latter. There’s no support for Super Slow-mo video recording mentioned on Samsung’s website for the new chip, although even the Exynos 9610-powered Galaxy A50 doesn’t support it. The Exynos 9609 also falls behind the Exynos 9610 in 4K capabilities. The 9610 can encode and decode 4K video at 120 frames per second (fps) while the 9609 maxes out at 60 fps. As far as manufacturing is concerned, both chips are built on Samsung’s 10nm FinFET process.

Exynos 9609 to power some upcoming Galaxy A series devices?

The Exynos 9609 could be a chip exclusive to some markets like the Exynos 9704, which is a downgraded version of the Exynos 7885 that debuted on the Galaxy A8 (2018). Perhaps upcoming devices like the SM-A507F and SM-A707F, expected to be modified versions of the Galaxy A50 and Galaxy A70, will be the first Samsung devices to use the Exynos 9609, but we’ll need to wait for more info from the company to be sure.

Exclusive: Samsung to skip 64GB storage option with next high-end tablet

According to a tip we have received, Samsung’s next high-end tablet with come with 128GB of internal storage on the base model. The Galaxy Note 9 was the first Galaxy flagship that didn’t come in a 64GB flavor, starting at 128GB and jumping straight to 512GB for the higher-end variant. The Galaxy S10 trio were extended the same courtesy this year, and now, Samsung seems set to leave behind 64GB as an option on its flagship tablet lineup as well.

Wondering what high-end tablet we’re talking about? Well, it has been discovered that two new Galaxy tablets are in the works, carrying model numbers SM-T860 and SM-T865 (the Wi-Fi and LTE variants respectively). We don’t know the name yet, but it’s likely to be the direct successor to the Galaxy Tab S4 and we can assume it’s going to be called Galaxy Tab S5 for the time being. There’s a significant jump in model numbers between the Tab S4 and the upcoming tablets, so there’s a possibility the increase in minimum storage won’t be the biggest upgrade the new models will offer.

However, all that is speculation for now. Neither the SM-T860 nor the SM-T865 have been spotted on any benchmarks yet, so there’s no word on what kind of specs we can expect. Our little birdie did tell us that these tablets will have a 256GB storage option as well, but other than that, we’re as much in the dark as everyone else is at the moment.

South Korea and the United States were the first two countries to get the 5G variant of Samsung’s new flagship. The company had previously confirmed that the device would be out in a handful of other countries over the summer. It has now confirmed that the Galaxy S10 5G UK release will take place on June 7.

Vodafone and EE are the two UK carriers which will begin selling the device on June 7. Their mobile 5G networks will soon go live in the country. In addition to 5G support, those who purchase this handset also get four rear cameras, a bigger battery, larger display, and faster charging.

Galaxy S10 5G UK release date confirmed

Vodafone has already confirmed that its 5G network will go live in seven cities on July 3rd. EE has previously mentioned the “second half of 2019” as its launch window for 5G. This way, the handset will already be in customers’ hands by the time the 5G network goes live. Pre-orders begin May 22nd.

Samsung is working with local mobile carriers in these countries to get the Galaxy S10 5G out starting next month. Galaxy A50 update brings improved camera picture quality, May security patch

Late last month, Samsung released quite a substantial software update for the Galaxy A50, adding features such as Bixby Routines and new Live Focus color effects for the camera and bringing the Galaxy A50 software closer to devices like the Galaxy A70 and the flagship Galaxy S10. Now, Samsung is rolling out a new update for the device, this time focusing on stability improvements.

According to the changelog, the update improves camera picture quality and enhances camera and Wi-Fi stability. The May 2019 security patch is included as well. The Galaxy A50 is a pretty good mid-range phone with plenty to offer, and the newest update should further enhance the user experience for owners of the device. It’s currently available in India but should be showing up in more countries in the next few days.

The update is a 153 MB download and comes with software version A505FDDU1ASE2. To check if it’s available for your Galaxy A50, navigate to the Settings » Software update menu on the device and tap the Download and install option. Alternatively, just grab the firmware for the new update from our database and upgrade your phone using a Windows PC. You should also be able to update via Samsung’s Smart Switch software for Windows and Mac.
