Samsung has launched a new Gear VR headset for the Galaxy Note 8

The Galaxy Note 8 has the biggest display ever of any Galaxy Note handset. The 6.3-inch Super AMOLED panel is impressive, to say the least. Given the size of the new handset, it doesn’t fit in any of the existing Gear VR headsets, not even the one Samsung launched earlier this year with the Galaxy S8.

Samsung did the only thing that it could have done: it launched a new headset. There’s a new Gear VR with Controller headset that has been launched today. Samsung hasn’t made any major changes. It’s just larger to accommodate the Galaxy Note 8.

Like others before it, the new Gear VR headset is backward compatible. This means that it works with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, the Galaxy Note 5, and the Galaxy S6 series.

This is the sixth Gear VR headset from Samsung. One can say that there are too many to keep track of now. Then again, the Gear VR leads the mobile VR space only because Samsung has pushed it with its flagship smartphones.

The new Gear VR costs $129.99 and will be available for pre-order starting tomorrow. Like the Galaxy Note 8, it will also go on sale come September 15.

Samsung confirms its Bixby smart speaker will be launched soon

It was reported earlier this year that Samsung was working on a smart speaker like the Amazon Echo. The company’s speaker would have been powered by Bixby. Now that Bixby has been launched globally, Samsung has revealed more information about this upcoming product.

The last we heard about Samsung’s smart speaker was back in July. It was reported that Samsung might not launch its Bixby smart speaker this year. The company reportedly believed that Amazon dominated the global market and that the Korean market was too small for a smart speaker to make any profits.

The president of Samsung’s mobile division DJ Koh confirmed ahead of the Galaxy Note 8 launch today that Samsung is working on a smart speaker. He added that the new speaker will be launched “soon.”

“As I mentioned I wanted to provide a fruitful user experience at home with Samsung devices, and I want to be moving quite heavily on it,” Koh said, which suggests that Samsung is working on this product on a priority basis.

Koh didn’t provide any more details about the speaker. He didn’t even confirm if it’s going to be powered by Bixby. That’s a given, though, because it wouldn’t make sense for Samsung to launch a smart speaker without Bixby.

It will, after all, help users control their smart home products. Bixby is the voice interface that will make it easy for users to interact with these connected devices. Samsung has also made no secret of the fact that it wants to expand Bixby to more products.

A smart speaker seems like the next logical destination for Bixby and we might see Samsung’s iteration of a smart speaker at some point later this year.

Samsung fans in the United Kingdom can now pre-order an unlocked dual-SIM Galaxy Note 8 directly from the company. The company and its carrier partners have also started taking pre-orders for the locked, single-SIM version.

The unlocked dual-SIM Galaxy Note 8 bears model number SM-N950FZKDBTU. It’s the 64GB model and is available in Midnight Black and Maple Gold colors from Samsung’s online store. While previous reports had suggested that the Galaxy Note 8 would cost more than £900 in the UK, the actual price is slightly lower.

The unlocked dual-SIM Galaxy Note 8 has been priced at £869. It’s now the most expensive smartphone that Samsung has ever released in the country. The price is the same for the unlocked single-SIM variant of the Galaxy Note 8.

All pre-order customers will receive a free DeX station from Samsung as a pre-order incentive. The company expects to ship orders by September 14 in the country.

Samsung’s retail and carrier partners like Carphone Warehouse, Vodafone, O2, iD Mobile and EE have also started taking pre-orders for the handset. Monthly prices range from £38 per month to £59.99 per month, depending on the carrier.

Check with your desired carrier or retailer to find out more about the prices that they’re charging for Samsung’s new flagship smartphone.

Galaxy Note 8 price on Sprint cut by 50% for new customers

Sprint, the fourth largest mobile carrier in the United States, will begin taking pre-orders for the Galaxy Note 8 from tomorrow. Like other carriers, it’s also offering incentives for customers to pick up Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone on its network.

The Galaxy Note 8 can be purchased from Sprint for a full retail price of $960. The deal is for those who are switching to Sprint and get the handset on its Sprint Flex payments plan.

Those customers will get 50 percent off the lease price and pay $20 per month with $0 down for 18 months. The Galaxy Note 8 is part of Sprint’s Galaxy Forever program which lets customers upgrade to the latest Galaxy smartphone at any time after 12 Sprint Flex payments.

All Galaxy Note 8 pre-order customers on Sprint will receive the pre-order gifts that Samsung has confirmed today. The options include a 128GB memory card + convertible fast wireless charging stand or a Gear 360 (2017) camera.

The Galaxy Note 8 is HPUE-enabled (High Performance User Equipment) on Sprint. This means that customers will get increased coverage, more capacity and faster speeds on Sprint’s network. HPUE-enabled smartphones provide Sprint customers with a better overall experience with video streaming, mobile gaming and other online apps and services.

The Galaxy Note 8 will be released on September 15.

Vainglory will get full mouse and keyboard support for Samsung DeX soon

Super Evil Megacorp, developers of the popular mobile esport game Vainglory, has confirmed today that the title is going to add full mouse and keyboard support for Samsung DeX in update version 2.8. This will enable Samsung DeX owners to play the mobile game with a mouse and keyboard in DeX mode.

DeX offers PC-like functionality on Samsung’s flagship smartphones. It was announced with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ earlier this year and also supports the Galaxy Note 8. A DeX dock is required to access all of its features.

Vainglory was featured on stage today at Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 event. Powered by the developer’s proprietary game engine, this console-grade game will soon be playable with a mouse and keyboard on Samsung DeX.

Samsung DeX owners will be able to experience Vainglory on a big screen through Samsung Game Launcher. They can use a mouse and keyboard to control the gameplay.

“We built Vainglory specifically for mobile devices with unmatched speed and responsive touch controls, but now, with the help of Samsung DeX, we’re taking gameplay to the next level for players who gravitate towards traditional PC gaming, and prefer to play with a mouse and keyboard,” said Tommy Krul, CTO of Super Evil Megacorp.

Vainglory is available as a free download from the Google Play Store. The game’s update 2.8 will be out soon.

Best Buy is offering this discount over and above the pre-order gifts that Samsung will give all pre-order customers. The company has given pre-order customers in the US a choice between a $229 Gear 360 (2017) camera and a 128GB microSD card + Convertible fast wireless charger.
