Samsung will no longer compete in Germany’s camera market

Following unconfirmed reports that Samsung will stop selling the flagship NX1 camera in Europe the company has now issued an official statement which partly confirms what was being rumored. Samsung has confirmed in the statement that it’s withdrawing from the camera market in Germany and will no longer be selling its camera products in the country.

The statement mentions that Samsung quickly adapts to market needs and demands, it has seen a gradual and sustained decline in demand for standalone digital cameras, camcorders and related accessories in Germany. “For this reason, we have taken the decision to phase out the sales and marketing of these products.” It does point out in the statement that this is a local decision based on local market conditions, so it doesn’t mean that the same will be done in the rest of Europe or across the globe for that matter.

Themes Thursday: Christmas and Thanksgiving themes start hitting the Theme Store

Welcome back to Themes Thursday! This week, Samsung has released 45 themes in the Theme Store. Unlike last week, all the good-looking themes from this week are paid. Even though there’s still time for the Christmas festive season, theme developers have started releasing Christmas related themes. There are a couple of Thanksgiving focussed themes as well.

We liked six themes from this week, and they are showcased below. Two of the three Christmas themes showcased today have a minimalistic approach to design, but if you don’t like them, you can have a look at the other themes in the Theme Store. The Landmark theme looks pretty good to me, and I’ve installed it on my Galaxy Note 5. Which themes did you like this week?

Samsung launches a remote control app for the Galaxy View

The Galaxy View is the largest tablet that Samsung has ever made, we exclusively reported earlier this year that an 18.4-inch monster was in the pipeline, Samsung officially launched it a couple of weeks ago and actually calls it a “movable display” because that’s really what it is. The Galaxy View is available for purchase from Samsung and retailers, AT&T is the only carrier in the United States selling it right now, and since it came out the movable display has received a custom CNN news app and a family photo bulletin board app. The latest app doesn’t run on the Galaxy View rather it helps you remotely control the device via an Android smartphone.

Called Galaxy View Remote it’s basically a Bluetooth-powered remote control app for devices powered by Android 4.4 and up, the device doesn’t necessarily need to be a Samsung smartphone, however the app can exclusively be used with the Galaxy View only. You can’t control any other device, Samsung or not, with this app. Galaxy View Remote allows you to control input on the Galaxy View via the smartphone, it features directional controls, a central “OK” button, power and volume buttons. There’s even a virtual touchpad area which controls a cursor on the 18.4-inch display. At the bottom Android’s usual recents, home and back buttons are also present. Galaxy View Remote is available as a free download from the Google Play Store.

Monthly Samsung TV sales in North America top $1 billion for the first time

Samsung today announced that it has achieved television sales of more than $1 billion in one month for the first time in North America, it set a new record for monthly sales in this particular market in October 2015. The record shows the gradual growth of Samsung’s TV business in North America as 11 years ago Samsung achieved $100 million in monthly sales for the first time. By October 2007 the number had ballooned to $500 million.

This growth has been aided by Samsung’s expansion of Samsung Entertainment Experience areas in more than 600 Best Buy locations, it has designed these areas to enable customers to explore Samsung products, particularly its audio systems and SUHD TVs. Samsung was also recognized as the highest-ranking company for customer satisfaction for two years straight in the HDTV category of sets above and below 50-inches, the study was conducted as part of the annual J.D. Power 2015 High-Definition Television Satisfaction Report. Data from NPD Group shows that Samsung accounted for 35.1% of TV sales in the United States and 28.4% in Canada, combined the figures have made it the leading TV vendor in North America.
