T-Mobile could follow AT&T and Sprint and launch the Galaxy A6 in the US

Samsung is, in a surprising move, gearing up to launch an A series phone in the US. We exclusively reported that the carrier Sprint would be bringing the Galaxy A6 to North America, and it was later rumored that AT&T would do so as well. It seems T-Mobile will also be joining the party, as what is likely a T-Mobile Galaxy A6 variant has been certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance.

Galaxy A6 possibly coming to T-Mobile as well

The certified device has the model number SM-A600T, which is a good sign that T-Mobile will be launching the phone alongside Sprint and AT&T. None of these carriers have confirmed they will be carrying Samsung’s new mid-range phone, so there’s no telling when a launch will take place. It also remains to be seen if Verizon will offer the A6 to its subscribers. The Galaxy A6 is far from the nicest Galaxy A series phone, though, so folks in the US won’t be losing out on much if it doesn’t arrive on all carriers stateside. The Galaxy A6+ would be the better option even with its higher price tag, thanks to features like an impressive 24-megapixel front camera and long-lasting battery life.

Adobe Scan for Bixby Vision transforms the Galaxy Note 9 into a portable PDF scanner

Samsung has been striving hard to turn its late-to-the-market virtual assistant, Bixby, into a differentiating factor for its products. It has been collaborating with other companies to make its assistant capable, smart, and more useful. The latest in the line of these efforts is the coming together of Adobe and Samsung to make mobile scanning easier.

Adobe, in a press release, has announced the ‘Adobe Scan for Bixby Vision’ feature, which will debut on the Galaxy Note 9. This collaboration will make it easier to access Adobe’s powerful mobile PDF scanning tool, Adobe Scan, from Bixby Vision. When a user aims the Galaxy Note 9 camera at a paper document, Bixby Vision will automatically suggest scanning it using Adobe Scan.

It is difficult to understand the level of integration without seeing the feature in action, but from the press release, it appears Bixby Vision will merely push the task to the Adobe Scan app and all the scanning takes place there. Users can also apparently access and edit saved scans from Bixby Vision itself.

Will come to the Galaxy S8, S9, and Note 8 as well

It seems Adobe Scan app will come preloaded on the Galaxy Note 9 to enable this integration. The Adobe Scan for Bixby Vision feature will also come to the Galaxy S8/S8+, Galaxy Note 8, and Galaxy S9/S9+ at a later date. Whether this means Samsung will push the Adobe Scan app through a future software update or will just ask users to download the app when in Bixby Vision is not yet known.

“Enabling Bixby Vison to work seamlessly with a powerful app like Adobe Scan gives our customers the ability to get more done with the latest Samsung flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Note9, than ever before,” said Elle Kim, vice president, Global Service Partnership, Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics.

Why are you not buying the Samsung Galaxy Note 9?

The Galaxy Note 9 went official last week, and it was nice to see that the rumors and leaks had been correct. The Galaxy Note 9 brings a number of new features and upgrades. A big battery, lots of storage, a Bluetooth S Pen, stereo speakers, and AI camera features are some of the highlights; there’s even a headphone jack unlike much of the competition. The best part? Samsung hasn’t raised the price for the base model compared to the Galaxy Note 8, making it an excellent deal for everything the phone offers.

Galaxy Note 9: Why are you skipping Samsung’s latest flagship?

But while many of you have probably been waiting for the day the phone will go on sale (and most likely pre-ordered already), some of you probably aren’t impressed and don’t think you should waste money on Samsung’s latest flagship. And our question is: Why? We know it might be too early to ask this, especially with the phone’s reviews still a few days away, but why are you not buying the Galaxy Note 9? Is it because it’s not enough of an upgrade or because the price is too high? Is it because you already have a device like the Galaxy S8 or a flagship released in the last two years? Or is it a combination of many or all of those factors, or something else?

We would love to know your opinion, so go ahead and tell us your reasons for not wanting to buy the Galaxy Note 9 down in the comments.

First Samsung 5G phone won’t be the Galaxy S10

As carriers in major markets across the globe prepare to flip the switch on their commercial 5G networks in the coming months, all eyes are on smartphone manufacturers to start rolling out devices that can leverage the next-generation mobile network. The market expects to see at least a few flagship models with 5G support in the first half of 2019.

The Galaxy S10 is likely going to be one of those flagships. Samsung’s 10th anniversary flagship may have support for 5G networks. However, the company has confirmed that it won’t actually be the first Samsung 5G phone. That title will go to a separate device.

First Samsung 5G phone

Mobile carriers in South Korea are aiming to launch their 5G networks in March 2019. Samsung is working with its local carrier partners to be the first company to release a 5G smartphone. The CEO of Samsung’s mobile division DJ Koh revealed at a press event today that it actually won’t be the Galaxy S10 that gets to be the first Samsung 5G phone.

Koh mentioned that this title will go to a separate device instead. He did not clarify whether this separate device will be the long-awaited foldable smartphone or another device altogether. Koh also reiterated Samsung’s desire to be the world’s first manufacturer to launch a truly foldable smartphone at this press event.

He also addressed recent reports in the media which suggested that the Galaxy S10+ might be the last handset of its kind. Rumors have been floating around recently that Samsung has been mulling the possibility of combining the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series.

Samsung was reportedly considering this due to the increasing overlap between the two product lines. Merging the two product lines would have also resulted in cost savings for Samsung in the R&D, marketing, production and sales departments. Koh set the record straight, saying that “For the immediate future, there won’t be a change in launching the S series in the first half and Note series in the second half of the year.”

Samsung would still like to be the first to release a foldable smartphone

We have heard countless reports over the past few years that Samsung is working on a foldable smartphone. The company has since acknowledged that it’s indeed working on such a device and that it won’t be a gimmick. Samsung is now expected to launch its foldable smartphone early next year.

Samsung said after the launch of the Galaxy S9 earlier this year that it was no longer obsessed with “being the world’s first” to bring new technology to market. It was based on the idea that the company would not rush new technologies to market and would rather wait and launch them when they’re fully ready for consumers. This ethos doesn’t apply to the foldable smartphone, it seems.

Samsung’s foldable smartphone

Speaking at a press event for Korean journalists, Samsung’s mobile boss DJ Koh said that the company is still interested in becoming the first smartphone vendor in the world to launch a proper foldable smartphone. He added that Samsung is “focusing on developing innovations that will be genuinely accepted and liked by consumers” while retaining its wish to clinch “the world’s-first title.”

Koh didn’t reveal a lot of information about the device itself but did mention that it’s not long before the foldable smartphone will finally be unveiled. He said that Samsung has cleared many obstacles in the quality and durability of the product. Samsung wouldn’t have started the project “if it was a going to be a one-time thing,” which suggests that the company may be mulling a proper series of foldable smartphones – the Galaxy F perhaps?

There’s a lot of excitement among Samsung fans who are anxiously waiting to see what the company can deliver in this form factor. Koh stopped short of saying when the device will actually be unveiled. Recent reports suggest that it could be launched early next year. Some have even floated the Consumer Electronics Show 2019 in January as the stage for the handset’s unveiling.

PSA: You need the Fortnite Installer app installed for updates to the game

Samsung gained exclusive rights to the Android version of Fortnite for its phones and tablets for three days, with the game having released last week during the Galaxy Note 9 launch event. If you have been playing the game and like it enough to be playing it regularly in the days to come, here’s a tip for you: You will need to keep the Fortnite Installer app installed on your device to be able to update the main game.

Fortnite updates will come through its Installer app

The Fortnite Installer app is the primary method of downloading the actual game on Android, as it hasn’t been released on the Play Store. The app will also be required for updates to the game on Android, just like it is on the Windows platform. And one update has already been released over the weekend for making the game available to all Android devices, although users need an invite from the game’s developer to be able to play it on non-Galaxy devices. Not so for owners of supported Galaxy devices. Those include the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S8, Galaxy S9, Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy Tab S3, and the upcoming Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy Tab S4.

If you haven’t already tried Fortnite on your Galaxy device, check out our step-by-step guide for instructions on how to download the game.

One Galaxy A (2019) phone’s triple rear camera could include a 32-megapixel sensor

We have already heard that Samsung is expected to equip both its mid-range and flagship phones next year with triple camera setups. But the latest report from Korea is shedding some light on what kind of megapixel counts we can expect from these devices. According to ETNews, at least one of the 2019 Galaxy A phones will come with a 32-megapixel primary camera at the back, supported by 8-megapixel and 5-megapixel sensors.

Galaxy phones with 30-megapixel+ cameras on their way?

If you want high-resolution cameras while buying a Samsung smartphone today, you have to turn to one of its Galaxy A series phones. The highest-resolution camera on a Samsung phone is currently on the Galaxy A9 Star, which has a 24MP+16MP setup at the back and a 24MP selfie camera. The Galaxy A6+, meanwhile, has a 24-megapixel sensor on both the rear and front cameras. The report says that Samsung is pondering going as high as using a 40-megapixel sensor, and while that may be a substantial jump, it wouldn’t be completely surprising to see on an A series device.

Of course, how much of an improvement the high-resolution cameras will bring to image quality on these Galaxy A smartphones will only be clear next year. We will also have to wait and see just how high Samsung will go with the megapixel counts. One thing is clear, though: The tradition of A series phones having better numbers than Samsung’s flagships phones in the camera department is likely to continue next year.

Check out Samsung’s first ad for the Galaxy Note 9

The Galaxy Note 9 will officially go on sale on August 24 in many markets around the world. Samsung has already started taking pre-orders for the same. The company and carriers are bundling many freebies to entice the customers to purchase the latest Galaxy flagship. On expected lines, the company is now gearing up for an ad campaign on TV.

Samsung has released its first ad for the Galaxy Note 9 on its YouTube channel, which is the same one that leaked ahead of the phone’s launch. It’s a straightforward ad which tries to highlight the main features of the device. From its massive battery to the Bluetooth-enabled S pen – all the Note 9 attractions are listed in the ad. Judging by the past ad campaigns, it is safe to say the 30-second commercial will feature prominently, if it hasn’t already, on prime-time television.

Gear Sport update brings improvement to battery charging algorithm

Samsung has released a new software update for the Gear Sport. The update comes with a changelog similar to the one for the recent Gear S3 update. It improves stability by making changes to the battery charging algorithm and also improves device security. Quite a vague changelog, which is par for the course for minor updates such as this.

Gear Sport update released

The Gear S3’s update was more important than the update now released for the Gear Sport, as it was intended to fix the overheating issues that had plagued Gear S3 units after the Tizen 3.0 update. The Gear Sport doesn’t have any such problems, but the update will hopefully fix any battery life woes you may be having. With Samsung’s attention diverted to the recently announced Galaxy Watch, it may be a while before another update comes out for the Gear Sport, so here’s hoping no negative effects will be introduced by whatever improvements are packed inside.

Gear Sport update

The update brings with it software version R600XXU1ARG1 (the Tizen version remains at 3.0.0.2). If you own a Gear Sport, you should be able to download the update from the Samsung Gear app’s settings menu on your connected phone. Do let us know if you notice anything new or different after the update has been installed.
