Galaxy A20s launched in India, starts at Rs. 11,999

Samsung has launched the Galaxy A20s in India. India has been ground zero for many of the Korean giant’s 2019 Galaxy A series phones, and it is also one of the first to be seeing the Galaxy A20s go on sale. Like ‘s’ iterations of other A series phones, the A20s gets a rear panel with an updated design and a camera upgrade. It also gets a higher storage variant and a Snapdragon chipset instead of the Exynos chip that powered the Galaxy A20.

The Galaxy A20s comes with a 6.5-inch Infinity-V display – the screen is bigger by 0.1 inches than the A20 but it’s not a Super AMOLED panel. The Snapdragon 450, which has eight Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz and the Adreno 506 GPU, is accompanied by 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage on the base variant and 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage on the top-tier variant. At the back, the A20’s 13MP primary camera and 8MP ultra-wide camera have been joined by a 5MP depth camera for enabling enhanced bokeh pictures.

The selfie camera remains an 8MP unit, and the 4,000 mAh battery has carried over intact as well, along with support fo 15W fast charging. The A20s has a rear-facing fingerprint sensor, and on the software front, it runs Android Pie with Samsung One UI. It is likely to get updated to Android 10 at some point, as is every other Galaxy A series phone launched this year.

The Galaxy A20s will be sold in India in black, green, and blue for Rs. 11,999 (~$170) for the 3GB+32GB configuration and Rs. 13,999 (~$198) for the 4GB+64GB configuration. The latter is priced the same as the Galaxy M30s, which is a much better phone in pretty much every aspect. It remains to be seen when Samsung will actually start selling the A20s – the device was said to be going on sale on October 5, but it has not yet been listed on major online retailers or the company’s own online store.

New Galaxy Tab S6 update out with old security patch

The Galaxy Tab S6 has received a new software update that brings last month’s security patch to Samsung’s latest flagship tablet. A handful of Galaxy devices, including last year’s Galaxy Tab S4, have already been updated with the October security patch, but Tab S6 owners will have to make do with the September patch for now. The new update comes with software version T86*XXU1ASJ1 and is currently available in Germany, Canada, Korea, and for Cellular South users in the US.

In addition to the September security patch, the update enables landscape mode for the Samsung Pass and Samsung Flow apps. It’s a 400 MB download over the air for the Wi-Fi variant, and it should be around the same for the LTE variant. Galaxy Tab S6 owners in any of the countries mentioned above can check if the update is available for their tablet by going into the Software update menu of the tablet’s Settings app and tapping the Download and install option.

Over-the-air updates can take time to reach all users, so you might have to tap the Download and install option a couple of times or try doing it after a few hours. Alternatively, you can skip the waiting game and upgrade your tablet by flashing the latest firmware on it with a Windows PC. You can find all firmware for the Galaxy Tab S6 in our firmware archive (Wi-Fi | LTE).

Galaxy Tab S4 October security update rolling out

Strike out another device on the list of Galaxy devices that are getting the October 2019 security patch: The Galaxy Tab S4 is now getting the October security update in a number of markets. These markets include Peru, Chile, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, Bolivia, Colombia, and Brazil; only the LTE variant is being updated at the moment, but the Wi-Fi-only variant should soon join the party. The software version accompanying the new update is T835UBS3BSI4.

The October security patch fixes a “high severity vulnerability” that has been discovered to be affecting multiple known phone models that include the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S8, and Galaxy S9. More than 100 million Android users are said to be vulnerable, and it is also being said that an Israel-based cyber intelligence firm is already exploiting the vulnerability. That makes the October security patch quite important, and it’s possibly why Samsung isn’t wasting any time in bringing it to as many devices as possible, although none of the Galaxy devices listed as being vulnerable have received the new patch just yet.

Own a Galaxy Tab S4 and live in one of the countries mentioned above? You can update your tablet over the air by opening the Settings app, selecting Software update, then tapping the Download and install option. You can also jump on to the newest software — which doesn’t bring anything but the October patch — by downloading the firmware for it from our firmware archive and flashing it on your Galaxy Tab S4 using a Windows PC.
