Samsung just announced the Notebook 7 Spin, a foldable Windows 10 convertible

Samsung has just announced the Notebook 7 Spin, a foldable Windows 10 convertible laptop. It can be folded to be used as a giant tablet, and it comes in two screen size variants: one with a 13.3-inch 1080p touchscreen display and the other with a larger 15.6-inch 1080p touchscreen display.

The 13.3-inch variant of the Notebook 7 Spin is powered by an Intel Core i5 processor, while the 15.6-inch variant is equipped with an Intel Core i7 processor and an Nvidia 940MX GPU. Both laptops feature a USB Type-C port, three USB Type-A ports (two USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0), while the larger convertible also comes with an Ethernet port. Galaxy Tab S2 now receiving Marshmallow update in the US

Three weeks after Verizon started distributing the hefty Android 6.0.1 firmware update for its carrier-locked variant of the Galaxy Tab S2, Samsung is now in the midst of rolling out an identical upgrade to all unlocked 8- and 9.7-inch Wi-Fi only variants of the slate located in the United States. This release brings all of the changes you’d expect to find bundled into the latest build of Marshmallow, in addition to a handful of added functionality for default Samsung applications, which includes the option to add images in S Memo.

The update, which carries the firmware number: T710XXU2CDPD, is available to download over-the-air (OTA) via a stable Wi-Fi connection. To see if the upgrade is ready for your Galaxy Tab S2, simply head into Settings, followed by About Device, locate and select Software Update, then hit the Update Now button. Alternatively, you can wait until you receive a push notification prompting you to download and install the update from Samsung’s servers, but you’ll only receive this prompt if you have at least 50% of battery.

Samsung starts rolling out Marshmallow update for the first-generation Galaxy A7

Samsung has just started pushing out the long-awaited Marshmallow upgrade to all unlocked variants of the first-generation Galaxy A7 located in Russia. The manufacturer also uploaded a new version of the handset’s user manual to its Download Center. The support booklet has been updated with instructions on how to use some of the features that Android 6.0.1 brings to the device, including Doze and Google Now on Tap. Unfortunately, though, the Themes Store still appears to be missing from the firmware, so users are stuck with the handful of default overlays that Samsung bundles onto the unit when it leaves the factory.

If you own a Galaxy A7 and would like to see if the update is ready for your handset, simply head into the following menus: Settings > About Device > Software Update > Update Now. It looks like first-generation Galaxy A5 owners are next in line to receive the Marshmallow treatment as Samsung also released a new version of its user manual, indicating that a rollout is right around the corner. Sadly, a specific date remains unknown, but the firm usually tends to get the wheels turning within a couple of days of publishing a revised user guide. As always, be sure to check back for more information as we’ll let you know as soon the OTA starts making the rounds.

Samsung has launched a dedicated website for 360-degree and VR videos

Samsung has launched a dedicated website for 360-degree VR videos to compete with YouTube and Facebook. This move comes after the company launched its first consumer-grade 360-degree camera, the Gear 360, in the US. Samsung had announced yesterday that it has renamed Milk VR to Samsung VR.

Samsung VR replaces Milk VR, which was limited to brands and influencers. However, Samsung VR can be used by masses to upload their 360-degree videos and VR video content. Although you can view these videos using the company’s virtual reality headset Gear VR, there’s a dedicated smartphone app (limited to Samsung’s smartphones) that lets users consume 360-degree videos without using the VR headset. The app would be quite useful when consumers are on the go or don’t feel like strapping a VR headset.

The South Korean smartphone giant is claiming that it has now created an “end-to-end solution” for creating and consuming 360-degree and virtual reality content. Samsung has launched a 360-degree camera, a smartphone that supports the content, a virtual-reality headset, and a dedicated website to share such content. We will only get to know if Samsung’s solution is any better than Facebook or YouTube in the coming months.

Galaxy On7 (2016) surfaces on GFXBench sporting a Snapdragon 625 chipset

It was only two weeks ago that we first caught wind of Samsung’s plans to release a revamped variant of the Galaxy On7 when the handset was spotted in an Indian import database bearing the model number SM-G600F. Unfortunately, the listing failed to provide any information with regards to the device’s internals. Thankfully, however, the Galaxy On7 (2016) surfaced in the GFXBench online directory earlier today, shedding some light on what we can expect in terms of performance when the handset hits the shelves later this year.

According to the benchmark results, the Galaxy On7 (2016) will sport a 4.8-inch Full HD display, a 2GHz Snapdragon 625 octa-core CPU an Adreno 506 GPU, 3GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, a 13MP rear-facing camera and an 8MP front-facing camera. It’ll ship running the latest build of Marshmallow skinned with Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface right out of the box. Recent rumors and speculation points towards the device also sporting Samsung Pay compatibility, an NFC chip and a 3,000mAh battery that should last for around 80-hours on standby.

From whichever way you look at it, that’s a pretty hefty improvement from last year’s model, which featured a 5.5-inch HD display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, an in-house 1.2GHz quad-core CPU with an integrated GPU module, 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. At present, it looks like this new variant will retain the $150-to-$200 launch price that its predecessor saw, which is great news for consumers as it means they’ll be getting a lot more bang for their buck, but a launch date still remains unknown.
