[Poll] How often do you use Dark/Night mode on your Galaxy device?

The Android Pie and One UI 1.0 update brought many new features to Galaxy devices, and one of the most anticipated of those was a system-wide Night mode. There has been theme support on Galaxy devices for ages so there was always the option of downloading a dark theme, but nothing beats a built-in option for those of us who don’t feel like dabbling in third-party themes.

With One 2.0, Night mode has been renamed Dark mode, in keeping with what the feature is called on stock Android 10, and it has also picked up the ability to darken the home screen wallpaper. According to Samsung, a dark interface makes it easy on the eyes when you use your phone or tablet at night or in the dark. But let’s face it, most of us use it because it just looks cool, especially on Galaxy devices with AMOLED displays.

We at SamMobile love it so much that we even have a dark theme for our site and an awesome Dark mode hoodie that you can buy from our online shop. Of course, there are those who prefer a lighter interface, and far be it for us to pass any judgement. What we do want is to know how often you use Night/Dark mode on your Galaxy smartphone or tablet. Do you have it enabled all the time? Do you have it set to turn on at specified times, or do you just keep it off all the time?

Vote in the poll below and let us know!

Galaxy Buds ‘Bean’ are Samsung’s upcoming overhauled earbuds

Samsung launched new wireless earbuds called the Galaxy Buds+ with the Galaxy S20 a couple of months ago. The company didn’t make any significant design changes, it only improved the audio experience and the battery life. It appears that there’s a completely overhauled pair of earbuds that Samsung is planning on launching later this year.

Reports suggest that this product may be launched as the Galaxy Buds “Bean,” with the kidney-shaped design likely being the reason this name is under consideration. Some 3D mockups have been created based on sketches of the earbuds and it’s not hard to see why this name would make sense.

Galaxy Buds Bean completely different than current Samsung earbuds

WinFuture reports that these new wireless earbuds are going by the “Beans” codename internally at Samsung, the shape is enough of a reason for this name to have been chosen. The scribe has seen sketches and 3D models of the product so it has created mockups based on them.

The design is fundamentally different from that of the Galaxy Buds/Buds+ as these earbuds won’t protrude out from the ear. Said to measure approximately 2.8 cm long, the lower part would sit inside the ear canal while the back would fill the upper part of the ear. It remains to be seen if this design will provide effective isolation of the ambient noise since the auditory canal won’t be as restricted as it is by the silicone attachments on the Galaxy Buds.

According to the report, these new earbuds have been assigned model number SM-R180. For reference, the Galaxy Buds+ carry model number SM-R175. The earbuds will reportedly feature two small loudspeakers with an outside channel for improved sound. There will be several integrated microphones as well for phone calls and allowing ambient noise to pass through.

No further details are available at this point, particularly regarding the battery capacity, since these earbuds are currently in the first Engineering Validation Testing phase. It’s also not known whether they will feature Active Noise Cancellation, a feature that even Samsung’s shareholders have started asking for. Things could change in the coming months and there’s also a possibility that Samsung may decide to shelve this product altogether.

It’s unclear when Samsung might launch the Galaxy Buds Bean. One would think they would accompany the Galaxy Note 20 that’s due in August this year. That would make sense. As far as the final name is concerned, Bean is still in there with a good shot. Samsung was recently awarded a trademark for the term Bean with the filing clearly mentioning that this trademark is meant for “wearable wireless earsets.”

Do you think this design makes sense for truly wireless earbuds? Would this be something you might think about buying? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.

Samsung UK is giving customers who buy an 8K TV a free 4K Frame TV

As the world’s top TV vendor, Samsung has understandably not wasted any time in bringing 8K TVs to the market, even though there’s not a lot of 8K content available right now. If you live in the United Kingdom and have been thinking about buying an 8K TV from Samsung, you’ll want to take advantage of this offer.

For a limited time, customers who buy an 8K TV from Samsung in the United Kingdom will also receive a free 4K The Frame TV. Given that 8K TVs are quite expensive, this deal offers a significant value for money.

This offer is valid for 2020 QLED TVs in the United Kingdom. Samsung is taking pre-orders for the new models through its online store and authorized retailers. Once purchased, customers have to visit the offer page and provide proof of their purchase. All claims need to be made within 30 days of the date of purchase. Once the claim has been reviewed, an email and SMS will be sent to the customer to confirm their personal details. Customers will receive their free Frame TV within 45 days of their claim being validated successfully.

The 65″ Q800T is the “cheapest” model that you can pre-order through Samsung’s online store to take advantage of this offer. It costs £3,999 but knowing that you’re going to get a £1,000 Frame TV for free as an incentive will certainly help make this price tag more palatable. Customers who are interested in taking advantage of this offer must pre-order their 8K TV by April 7.

April security update out for Sprint’s Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra

There are new updates going out for Samsung’s latest flagship and its flagships from last year in various markets right now. The Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 are getting features from the Galaxy S20 lineup and One UI 2.1, while the Galaxy S20 series recently received yet another update that improves its camera experience and brings the April 2020 security patch.

The One UI 2.1 update for the unlocked Galaxy S10 and Note 10 started rolling out in the US a few hours ago, and now, the latest Galaxy S20 update has made its way stateside as well. The update features build number G98xUSQU1ATCU; it is available for Sprint’s variants of the S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra at this time but will likely be headed to other carrier models and the unlocked models soon.

While the latest update for the S20 series is supposed to bring numerous camera improvements, Sprint’s changelog only mentions that the security of the devices has been improved. However, the camera improvements — detailed here — are likely included as well. The update also fixes a lag issue on the lock screen that made the fingerprint sensor unresponsive for a second or two after the screen is turned on.

As usual, you will get a notification once the update is available for your phone, though you can also manually download it right away from the Settings » Software update menu on the device. Firmware for the Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra are also available in our archive, which can be used for immediately updating to the latest software without waiting for the over-the-air release.

US unlocked Galaxy S10, Note 10 get One UI 2.1 update with new features

Samsung confirmed earlier this week that it would release the One UI 2.1 update for the Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy Note 10 in the United States starting April 3. This update has already been released for the Exynos-powered variants of the device.

The One UI 2.1 update brings some of the best Galaxy S20 features to last year’s flagships. Unlocked variants in the United States don’t really have a good track record of receiving updates on time. However, those who own one will be delighted to know that the US unlocked Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 have started receiving the One UI 2.1 update.

One UI 2.1 for unlocked Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10

Multiple reports have come in from readers that they have received the One UI 2.1 update on their unlocked variants. Samsung is rolling out firmware version G97xU1UEU3DTC9 and N97xU1UEU3CTC9 for the unlocked Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 respectively. The update comes with the latest security patch for the month of April.

Samsung is bringing the best Galaxy S20 features to its earlier flagships through the One UI 2.1 update. The new features include Single Take, Pro mode for video, AR Zone, My Filters, the ability to record videos in FHD/UHD at 60fps with the front camera and more. Some very useful features like Quick Share and Music Share are part and parcel of this update as well.

Customers who own unlocked variants in the United States have long been irked by the delay in updates being released for their devices. They will be happy that this time around, Samsung isn’t making them wait until after all carrier variants have received the update. So as carriers in the United States gradually release the One UI 2.1 update for these devices, Samsung has already gone ahead and rolled out the update for the unlocked variants.
