Microsoft is offering up to $650 in trade-in credit towards Galaxy Note 10 purchases

Microsoft may not be a major retailer, but the software giant does have online and offline stores in many markets where it sells select products and services, even those that are not directly related to the Windows ecosystem. This includes the newly-launched Galaxy Note 10 as well, which comes preloaded with Microsoft’s Android apps and services.

Like most other retailers, Microsoft is also aggressively pushing the Galaxy Note 10 with attractive offers. The Redmond company is giving generous trade-in credits on older Galaxy devices when you buy a Galaxy Note 10/Note 10+ at one of its retail locations in the US or Canada. Select models from Apple, Google, LG, and OnePlus are also accepted.

The trade-in values vary depending on the model and the location, but overall, they seem to be higher than what Samsung is offering on its website. The offer is valid till September 22. Though Microsoft is displaying trade-in values for Australia and the UK as well, the terms and conditions state the promotion is valid only in the US and Canada.

Do note that while Microsoft is offering generous trade-in credit, you will be buying the Galaxy Note 10/Note 10+ at their full retail price. Some carriers and retailers are offering expensive freebies and attractive discounts on the retail price, which some might find more appealing than Microsoft’s promotion.

Check out Samsung’s latest Galaxy Note 10 ads promoting main features

Samsung has launched a new series of short Galaxy Note 10 ads aiming to maintain some of the phone’s main characteristics under the spotlight. Two of these ads are focused on battery life which, as you can gather from our reviews, is pretty good on both the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+; especially on the latter.

The company also prepared a new ad for Knox. It’s a compilation of popular short videos that have become viral at one point or another. They all share a common theme of a close call, near miss, or some type of event that could’ve ended in a disaster but didn’t, thanks to someone or something that prevented it. It’s a parallel to Knox and how your phone is being kept secure by Samsung’s platform even if or when you might not be aware of it.

There is one ad in particular that targets only the Galaxy Note 10+ model. This is where one of the key differences between the two Notes becomes more evident. The ad is titled “FinalFinalFinal Presentation” and highlights the fact that the Galaxy Note 10+ can offer up to 1.5TB of storage. Of course, the fine print explains that this can only be achieved by fitting the variant with 512GB of onboard memory with a 1TB microSD card. The Galaxy Note 10 does not have a microSD card slot nor does it have any other storage options besides 256GB.

Check out the latest ads embedded above and below, and let us know in the comment section if you’re rocking either one of the Galaxy Note 10 models. How do you like it so far, and what has your experience been regarding battery life?

Galaxy M30s live photos pop up at TENAA, new Exynos SoC rumored

The Galaxy M30s is inching its way towards the market, and as part of its pre-launch process, the device seems to have been approved by the Chinese regulatory agency TENAA. This allows us to take a closer look at the smartphone’s exterior design, as TENAA applications are generally accompanied by live photos, and this one is no exception.

Large camera housing to become a design trend?

Judging by the live photos shared by TENAA, the Galaxy M30s will indeed feature an unusual rear-facing camera setup. Or rather, the camera housing where the three rear-facing sensors and LED flash reside is uncommonly large.

Monster battery could benefit from faster charging

The TENAA application for the Galaxy M30s doesn’t contain any hardware details, unfortunately, but we do know that the device is expected to rock a monster 6,000mAh battery. On top of that, GSMArena cites Slashleaks in saying that the phone could benefit from 18W fast charging over USB.

Likewise, the device would be equipped by a so-called Exynos 9611 SoC but the chipset in question has never been confirmed by Samsung. The Galaxy M30s with model number SM-M307F has been spotted on Geekbench with the Exynos 9611 and 4GB of RAM. The chip is likely just a variation of the Exynos 9610 with slightly different clock speed.

We are unable to confirm at this point if the information above is correct, but, at the least, bumping the phone’s fast charging capabilities up from the usual 15W would be most welcomed for a large 6,000mAh unit which would inevitably require a fair amount of recharge time.

As we wait and see how the Galaxy M30s shapes up, it’s worth reminding that Samsung is expected to unveil the phone in India on September 18. The company should launch the device online through Amazon.

Samsung and SK Telecom join forces to develop 5G-enabled 8K TVs

Samsung and SK Telecom have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to “jointly develop and commercialize” the world’s first 5G-enabled 8K TV. Samsung already sells 8K TVs and is also a major player in the 5G market. Naturally, the company is looking to leverage its strengths to introduce another industry-first product.

When launched, customers will be able to stream content from POOQ, an OTT subscription service, and Oksusu at 8K resolution on over SK Telecom’s 5G network. The South Korean telecom operator plans to deploy “Mobile Edge Computing and Network-Based Media Processing” to ensure seamless transmission of 8K content over its network.

Both the companies also agreed to work together on SK Telecom’s hyper-space platform, eSpace, and 5G Sero TV – a 5G variant of Samsung’s vertical TV. 5G-enabled B2B solutions in areas of smart office and digital signage are also on the cards.

“The 5G-8K TV is the culmination of ultra-low latency 5G networks combined with ultra-high definition TV technology. 5G technology will help make the world of hyper media a reality,” said Park Jin-hyo, Chief Technology Officer and Head of ICT R&D Center at SK Telecom.

Samsung is not the only company interested in 5G-capable 8K TVs. Huawei is also reportedly planning to launch one later this year. We currently don’t know if Samsung’s offering will hit the market before that, but given that the Korean company already sells 8K TVs in the market, launching a 5G variant may not take that long.

Exclusive: Galaxy S11 colors will include some familiar options

We have received some information about the Galaxy S11 colors that we’d like to pass along. It’s still a bit too soon to be talking about the Galaxy S11. However, since it will be the company’s next flagship, we will undoubtedly be hearing a lot more about it in the weeks to come.

Samsung isn’t due to launch the Galaxy S11 until early next year. If history is any indication, the new flagship won’t be unveiled before February 2020. Fans already have considerable expectations from the device.

Galaxy S11 colors will not surprise you

We hear that the Galaxy S11 colors will include some familiar options. Samsung is going to offer the device in Blue, Pink, Black and White colors. All four of these options are currently available for the Galaxy Note 10.

Samsung is using the “Aura” branding for the color options this time around and it may choose to do so for the Galaxy S11 as well. This also leaves the door option for Aura Glow to make its way to the Galaxy S11 as well. This is something that will please many fans. Aura Glow has proven to be a hit among Galaxy Note 10 customers so it will likely be received very well by those who pick up the Galaxy S11.

We also revealed the Galaxy S11 storage options in an earlier exclusive. There will be up to 1TB of internal storage available with 128GB likely being the base storage across all three models. However, both the 128GB and 1TB variants were talked about initially for the Galaxy Note 10 as well but they never saw the light of day.

Expect to hear more about the Galaxy S11 in the days to come. The rumor mill is also going to start churning out its theories about Samsung’s new flagship in the near future. As far as color options go, Samsung wouldn’t go wrong with these if it chooses them for the Galaxy S11.

Sprint rolling out Galaxy Note 10 September security update

Sprint is rolling out the September security update to the Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+. This is the same update that was released for the Exynos variant in other markets at the beginning of the month – in addition to the September security patch, it brings improved audio quality over wired earphones. The software version for the update released by Sprint is N970USQU1ASHB and N9705SQU1ASHB for the Note 10 and Note 10+ respectively.

Sprint is the first carrier to release a software update for Samsung’s new Note flagships in the US since the devices went on sale. Other carriers should also be releasing the same update for their customers, and we will hopefully see the unlocked variants getting it in the near future as well. Samsung’s support for the unlocked Galaxy S10 models and older flagships has left a lot to be desired, but fingers crossed the company does something about it with the Galaxy Note 10.

Sprint Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ owners can grab the update over the air from the Software update menu of the Settings app on their phone. Another way to upgrade is to download the latest firmware from our database (Note 10 | Note 10+) and flash it on the phone using a Windows PC.
