Galaxy A6 and Galaxy Tab A 10.5 launched to revamp midrange lineup in the U.S.

Samsung has decided to shake up its mid-range lineup in the United States. To that end, it has announced the launch of the Galaxy A6 and the Galaxy Tab A 10.5 for potential customers in the country. The Galaxy A6 series is joining a solid queue of affordable devices that Samsung offers in this market including but not limited to the Galaxy J series.

The Galaxy A6 is a robust affordable device with the specs to match. It features a 5.6-inch OLED display with a 16-megapixel front and rear camera. It’s powered by a 1.6GHz octacore processor with 3GB RAM and a 3,000mAh battery. The device ships with Android 8 Oreo and will be available for $359.99 from Samsung’s website in the U.S.

We were quite pleased with the device in our Galaxy A6 review. For us, it feels like an expensive cross between the budget and the mid-range spectrums. Fun fact: This is actually the cheapest Galaxy phone with an Infinity Display and a metal body. Sales will start on September 14 and more carrier partners may be announced in the coming weeks.

The Galaxy Tab A 10.5 is an affordable mid-range tablet with a 16:10 aspect ratio WUXGA display, a 1.8GHz octa-core processor with 3GB of RAM, 32GB storage and quad-speakers enhanced by Dolby Atmos. There’s a 7,300mAh battery aswell.

The tablet ships with Android 8.1 Oreo and will cost $329.99 for the Wi-Fi version that will be available from Amazon, Samsung’s website and Walmart starting September 14. Samsung has confirmed that the LTE variant of this tablet will be available from Sprint and Verizon in the coming months.

Samsung launches a new artificial intelligence center in New York City

Samsung has been heavily investing in artificial intelligence as it feels that the technology will help it deliver better products and services to customers. The company has been setting up artificial intelligence centers in key locations across the globe where it brings in top talent to research this crucial field further.

The company today announced that in addition to the five artificial intelligence centers that are already up and running in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Russia and South Korea, the company is now adding a new location in New York City.

Samsung’s sixth AI Center

Samsung’s new AI Center is located in the heart of Chelsea. It will be led by Daniel D. Lee who is the executive vice president of Samsung Research. His work in this field has earned him praise across the globe. He joined Samsung in June last year. Daniel D. Lee will be aided by a leading authority in neuroscience-based AI technologies, H. Sebastian Seung, who is also an executive vice president of Samsung Research.

The company says that this particular AI Center will be focused on advanced artificial intelligence research in robotics. In addition to being an EVP, Seung is the Chief Research Scientist at Samsung as well and will advise the company on advanced AI search with a view to develop opportunities for future business growth.

The sixth AI Center is going to work in partnership with Samsung’s other artificial intelligence research facilities. All of this is part of Samsung’s stated goal to hire almost 1,000 AI specialists by 2020. Expect to see more AI Centers to pop up in key locations down the line.

Samsung starts selling USB-C to HDMI dongle for the Galaxy Note 9

The ability to power DeX without a dock is one of the many new features of the Galaxy Note 9. You’re no longer required to spend over a hundred dollars on a dock that would enable your Samsung flagship to power a PC-like experience when connected to an external display. The Galaxy Note 9 lets you do that with a simple USB-C to HDMI dongle. Samsung has now started selling its official USB-C to HDMI dongle for the Galaxy Note 9.

Samsung’s USB-C to HDMI dongle

The official Samsung USB-C to HDMI dongle has support for up to UHD and 4K screens with 60Hz refresh rate. It uses the HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2 standards and is compatible with a variety of Samsung devices that have a USB-C port. On those devices, it’s possible to mirror the screen on the TV with this dongle. The dock-less DeX experience is only limited to the Galaxy Note 9.

However, there’s no compulsion to buy this particular dongle if you want to use DeX without a dock on the Galaxy Note 9. I have been able to do just that with an aftermarket dongle. Any USB-C to HDMI dongle can be used to run DeX without a dock on the Galaxy Note 9. The handset will show you a notification that it’s recommended to use official Samsung accessories but it’s not intrusive and won’t prevent you from running DeX.

Samsung’s official USB-C to HDMI dongle is available for purchase right now. It can be bought from Amazon for $31.
