Samsung announces new Level U Pro ANC headset in the United States

Samsung has today unveiled the latest headset in its Level U range of Bluetooth-enabled personal speakers, the Level U Pro ANC. This is the firm’s first pair of earphones to feature a powerful Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) system and two-way speakers, which, when combined, provide studio-quality sound. The Level U Pro ANC also supports Ultra High Quality (UHQ) playback delivering 95kHz, 24-bit sound, which is higher than the standard of audio that CD’s use.

Just like the Level U and Level U Pro, the Level U Pro ANC features a magnetic clasp along the side of the earbuds, which not only prevents them from tangling, but enables you to control your music (play/pause/fast forward/rewind) and accept/decline calls, too. If you have the Level application installed on your smartphone, you’ll also have access to S Voice and a Text-to-Speech (TTS) converter, which provides you with real-time voice updates on missed calls, incoming emails, and new text messages.

The Level U Pro ANC headset will launch in the United States later this month. Providing all goes according to plan, it will hit the shelves in Europe, Russia and Korea before the year’s out. Unfortunately, we have no information with regards to pricing, but we expect the unit to cost somewhere in the region of $100-120.

Galaxy Note 7 model number SM-N930FD gets certification in Russia

The Galaxy Note 7 is just a few weeks away, and we’ve been told that Samsung will start production on the device this month. Now, we’re seeing the typical certifications that come with each new smartphone release. The latest shows the Korean giant certifying the Galaxy Note 7 model number SM-N930FD in Russia, giving Russian customers reason to get excited.

The model number SM-N930FD shows the presence of dual SIM slots (as indicated by the “D”), with the “F” ending matching the European model number we’ve seen back a few weeks ago that indicates Samsung will bring the Galaxy Note 7 to Europe, with the Korean giant set to make up for the absence of the Galaxy Note 5 there last year, no doubt). Of course, it appears as though there’ll only be one Galaxy Note 7 model this year (not two), and this Russian model certification certainly matches the model numbers we’ve seen here at SamMobile since back in March earlier this year, with only the SM-N930 model number to speak of (different alphabet endings for different regional variants, of course).

We’ve been covering the usual, expected specs for the device (you can see all our Galaxy Note 7 coverage), but recent developments suggest that 1) the “next big thing” may have the next wide screen, 2) the presence of the USB Type-C port that confirms our own exclusive on the next Galaxy, 3) that there will be three colors to choose from (Black Onyx, Silver Titanium, and Blue Coral) as well as an iris scanner on the back to boot. A curved display has been verified by Korea, but new Galaxy Note 7 cases reveal the same design.

Add to these evidences the 5.8-inch, Super AMOLED display with a 1440p screen resolution, Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC, 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 64GB of minimum storage, 5MP/12MP camera combo with f/1.7 apertures, and a 3,600mAh battery, and you’ve got one world-class device. The Galaxy Note 7 unveil is set for August 2nd, and at that time, all the “Galaxy” will live on the edge.

New video shows how to get started with Samsung’s Gear IconX earphones

Earlier today, Samsung took to its official YouTube channel to share a short video dedicated to showing customers just how easy it is to use its recently-announced Gear IconX wireless earphones. The short 2-minute clip demonstrates how to get started with the earbuds’ main features, which enable users to: track a whole host of different fitness data, receive real-time voice feedback on workout progress and play music from either a paired smartphone or from the earphones’ internal storage.

Samsung kicks off production of the Tizen-powered Z2 in India

We first heard of the LTE-enabled Samsung Z2 a little over a year ago when a handful of leaked images surfaced online showcasing the design of the handset from all angles. Unfortunately, Samsung hit a severe delay in the development of the device, which threw all plans of a 2015 release out of the window. However, it would now appear that a launch is imminent as the South Korean company has just started importing a large amount of components into India to assemble its latest Tizen-powered smartphone at its Noida assembly plant.

This news comes three weeks after a variant of the Samsung Z2, carrying the model number SM-Z200F, received Bluetooth certification in the United States, which is a pretty solid indicator that a launch is right around the corner. All that’s left to do is receive FCC certification; then the handset will have all of the required documentation to hit the shelves. It’s pretty safe to say that Samsung has done a pretty good job at keeping Z2 under wraps as we don’t have any specifications to report, other than that it will ship with an all-new My Money Transfer application and will have a build of S Bike on board.

Online publication Tizen Experts has reportedly conversed with one of its anonymous internal sources, who believes that we could be looking at an October 2016 release, but judging by the mass of support pages popping up left, right and center on Samsung’s servers, it’s perfectly possible that it could break cover before then.

Samsung adds a bunch of new features to the S Health app

Just as Samsung announced the Gear Fit 2 about a month ago, the company has added some new features to the S Health application. Some of these additions are based on the social aspect of fitness, such as competing with your friends and peers, matching the steps count etc. With a new feature called ‘Together’, Samsung is letting you create steps challenges with your friends and score moral victories over them on a regular basis.

With the steps leaderboard, you can compare your steps with other S Health users around the world as well as your friends. Results can be filtered based on your age group as well. Another tiny update is the ability to view all your steps taken together, rather than filtering them based on your devices (smartphone, fitness tracker etc). This combines all the data from trackers to give you a comprehensive look at the steps count.

In order to help you get a quicker read of your heart rate, the quick measure feature lets you simply place your finger on the heart rate sensor and place the device face down for the measurements to be taken. Once done, you can simply turn over your device to have a glance at your heart rate and other vital information. This will save users the time of manually having to tap the ‘Measure’ button to record the heart rate each time.

Samsung has finally divided the exercises in a different list with over 40 to choose from. This will help the S Health app get a better understanding of your workout preferences and ultimately give you a better and more accurate reading.

Lastly, the my page view lets you get a detailed look of how you have fared in the past week or so. You can check out the rewards that you have received, program history and much more. This will be used as a metric to set goals for you in the future.

This is the Galaxy J2 (2016)’s Smart Glow notification ring

Only last week, we detailed the previously leaked Smart Glow notification feature that will bring complex notification features to future Galaxy phones. Though we expect it on more devices in the future, the first phone to launch with Smart Glow is the Galaxy J2 (2016). Now, we can show you what it looks like on that device.

The image below shows the rear of the Galaxy J2 (2016), including the Smart Glow ring around the camera lens. The ring will light up in different colors to signal incoming or missed calls or messages. It can also indicate a low battery level, and aid in taking selfies when using the rear camera.

Though future versions of Smart Glow will bring weather information and even measure the user’s heart rate, on the Galaxy J2 (2016) functionality will be limited at first. However, based on the functional potential of the feature, we would not be surprised if Samsung ends up including it in higher-end devices next year, including, possibly, even the Galaxy S8. The J2 (2016) itself will be officially unveiled in India later this week.

(Thanks for the tip, Ahmed!)
