Samsung Pay surpasses 1 million users in South Korea

According to a report out of South Korea Samsung Pay has now surpassed 1 million users in the country. That’s a pretty astonishing figure when you take into account that the service has only been operational in South Korea for the past two months, during which time it has recorded more than 100,000 daily payments equating to a grand total of $90 million. The secret to Samsung Pay’s success in South Korea appears to be a result of the company’s extravagant public marketing events that were carefully crafted to showcase just how easy it is to use, and to encourage more people with compatible Samsung smartphones to start using the wireless payment gateway.

It looks as if most users are turning to the service to pay for goods on a daily basis in department stores, supermarkets, cafés and restaurants, although use at cinemas and for public transport is at an all-time-high. “Samsung Pay has seen its subscriber base expand at a rapid pace,” says a Samsung Electronics official, “We will continue to make efforts to offer better services by developing more convenient, customer-centric functions and by providing marketing promotion events for the payment service.”

Have you had an opportunity to try Samsung Pay? If so, what are your first impressions on the service? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
